WWE has done things a little bit differently over the last year or so with callups as opposed to some of the methods they’ve done prior.

Across multiple regimes, WWE has handled callups in a variety of different ways, including just immediately pulling talent from NXT when the callups occurred. This was typically in the Vince McMahon era, and left NXT in a tough place creatively. However, things have been way more flexible.

In the past, there were certain points of which WWE knew they were going to make those call-ups. We’ve been told that the way things have been handled internally over the last year or so has been significantly different. The call-ups themselves have been kept way closer to the vest, and are less strict as talent getting off of NXT TV just to go to the main roster. The standard procedure has been that a talent gets called up, and because of the easier main roster schedule these days, they can usually still finish out on NXT TV.

It was also noted to us by a Performance Center source that WWE feels its important to have veteran wrestling presences with TV experience both at the Performance Center and on the show itself. It was stated by that source that there have been some brought in that didn’t have immediate main roster plans, and a full on NXT run was the intent from the company.
