AEW signs independent talent

An indie veteran has been signed with All Elite Wrestling for the last couple of months.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has confirmed that Tatevik signed with All Elite Wrestling back in the fall of 2025. She has not yet been used on AEW TV since being signed, but wrestled Harley Cameron on Collision in a short match last March.

Of late, Tatevik made appearances in OVW, as well as a NJPW Academy show. As far back as 2013, she also appeared in WOW Women of Wrestling, and did extra work for WWE.

Tatevik has a classic theater background, and also has stunt and kickboxing training.

Hey SRS, do you see Rhea vs Iyo at WM? I can see them lose the tag titles around rumble and then go into a feud until WM

If they aren't still teaming with each other at that point, then yes I do. Rhea Ripley is a transcendent, crossover star. You definitely want a match that showcases her when casual fans are watching. IYO SKY is a top-level talent that they've had figured into the top of the card for years now and looks to be a major player for a long time. Whatever they do at WrestleMania, I expect it to involve one another as of now.

Any update on Private Party? They haven't been on TV in over a year with no sign of a return or contract expiring in sight. I know they've spent plenty of time in the gym since but I wonder what's next for them

Marq Quen was backstage at an AEW event a couple of months ago, but I haven't heard much beyond that. When it was reported elsewhere that their deals were up "soon," I'd have expected them up in the year, but it's 2026 now and they're still under AEW contract. The last I've heard, their deals don't match up exactly, but there was WWE interest.

HHH as head of creative has lately been criticized for his booking .It sounds that his model is more collaborative than the previous booker. Are the creative criticism’s only his doing? For example, are there instances where his booking is dictated to by TKO or by PLE sites as to who he should book or what matches he should book?

It's never only his doing or any creative heads doing, but they are the ones who should get the blame, because everything goes through them. Tony Khan specifically took this to heart a few months in to AEW and hasn't relinquished since and has made it clear he won't. You have to have a good, effective team around you. But if you're at the top of creative, you're always going to get the blame, and only sometimes get the credit. With most leadership positions, it's like that. I've not heard of any creative besides The Rock driven by TKO.

Alex & Kate's SOUR GRAPS: Raw 1/12 | Breakking Point

Welp. Bron Breakker nearly murdered his boss. So that was something.

Things on this broadcast, not considered "something":

An interrupting promo parade, leading to new Women's Tag contenders.
Finn Balor, fresh off of 5 straight televised losses, being next in line for the World Heavyweight Title, because Ireland Next Week.
Maxxine getting ANOTHER match with Becky Lynch.
Otis & Tozawa, fresh off of 763 straight televised losses, being next in line for the World Tag Titles.
Stephanie Vaquer getting blindsided and beaten down for the second week in a row.

And Gunther tapping out. Again. In Germany this time. But sneaky like, so it didn't cost him the match.

Because that makes it better, I guess.

Everything sucks. Let's talk about it.

Saraya has talked about how she mailed it in when she was with AEW. Does anyone in the industry care about this or look at her differently? Would they still want to work with her?

I've not had anyone speak to me directly about it, and this was actually the first I heard of it. Everyone has ups and downs in motivation, and she certainly did. She was emerging from a career-ending injury and was beloved at first, then wasn't, then won the world title, and then was doing nothing, then in a group, then re-signed, and then went off television. Santana and Kazarian have similar experiences, and nobody looks at them different.

hey Sean, I've been rewatching old Rumbles with my 11 year-old starting from the beginning. we're through '98 now and it's been fascinating watching the old eras through a modern child's eyes. do you have any stand out favorite Rumble match moments from your childhood?

Yes, I grew up renting every Royal Rumble on VHS I could find and watching with my cousin. So in 1996 as kids, we were renting the 90-92 Rumbles regularly. Rick Martel's run of over 50 minutes was incredible. The hated, effeminate heel just going out there and having an incredible run was something very cool to see. He wasn't a coward, he was a competitor. I think it really set the stage for what an iron man really was.

"The Diesel spot" is still a thing today.

What’s your best guess as to what Nakamura’s punishment from HHH would’ve been if he’d just said screw it and gone to the Tanahashi match?

Nothing. He would have been off WWE television. Not like that would be much of a change compared to months at a time during his run, anyway. Instead, he had a banger match on the January 9 episode of Smackdown with Carmelo Hayes. They still should have let him. Retirements are more important than silly wrestling wars.

TNA talent re-signs

A standout TNA talent has re-signed with the company.

Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp has confirmed that Cedric Alexander has re-signed with TNA Wrestling. Cedric's TNA deal was actually up around Bound For Glory, and the company came to terms to re-sign him recently.

Alexander is slated for a TNA X-Division Title match at TNA Genesis. He recently reunited with Hurt Business members MVP and Shelton Benjamin at Wrestlecade as well. We've not yet learned the length of the deal. He worked on a short-term deal prior.

LA Knight update, Chris Jericho, MCMG update

YEAH, he is supposed to be backstage.

On Sunday, Fightful Select reported that LA Knight was planned to travel to Germany, which is the site of WWE Raw this week. We can confirm he was scheduled to be backstage at today's show. We can't confirm if he will appear, though rarely do they fly talent to Europe mid-tour to not use them.

LA Knight has been absent from WWE TV for over a month. He signed a lucrative contract extension in the Summer of 2025 that goes several more years.

Chris Jericho has not been seen anywhere backstage today, and sources claim he was not factored in to creative plans that they've seen.

We've also had a number of subscribers ask about Motor City Machine Guns. They are scheduled to work upcoming AAA dates.

LA Knight update

LA Knight may be on his way back to WWE.

LA Knight has been off WWE TV for over a month, last appearing on the December 8 episode of Raw against Logan Paul. After the match, LA Knight was written off TV, and WWE said he was out indefinitely with an injury.

Fightful Select has learned that LA Knight was scheduled to travel to Germany this week. WWE Raw on January 11 is in Germany. We can't confirm that he'll be on the show, but WWE rarely brings people over in the middle of a European tour for nothing.

You've spoken in the past about NXT wanting to keep some bigger names for itself. Do you know of any in particular who are unlikely to ever get that main roster callup or is it more of a "they'll spend longer than you'd expect in NXT" situation?

Not really. Shawn Spears, but that's because he wants to stay in Florida. The method that they have right now works for the rights fees they get, the numbers they draw, and the goal they have. They get wrestlers with televised experience, use them on NXT for a year or so, and then they move on to the main roster, and are replaced by people with television experience elsewhere. It also helps the younger talent to learn from them.

Is there any truth to what Coachman said about potential WWE sale to Saudi Arabia?

Not any time soon. WWE is a huge money earner for TKO right now. A sale doesn't make sense unless it's a too good to be true offer.

Funny enough, if Saudi tried to buy WWE in 2016, they probably could have. For now, TKO is happy to chip away at their debt by making money hand over fist.

hey Sean, what's going on with guys like Kevin Nash and Bret Hart and all the rage-baiting they've been doing lately? I get that a lot of legends want to stay relevant however they can but do they not get that we're laughing at the old man yelling at clouds and not with him?

They're workers, and very good ones. Those two particularly are some of the smarter wrestlers there have been, and they have large audiences that will follow what they say. Bret Hart knows he's hilarious, and is a very effective troll. Kevin Nash is an even better one, and masks it better. I think that there's plenty of what they believe in there as well. Especially on Kevin's show, there's incredible knowledge being shared. The reality is in all of sports, the former athletes are now the hot take guys. That draws more headlines that honest to god BALL TALK and analysis. It's like that across the board in sports, sadly.

Indie names set for WWE tryouts

WWE has a tryout this upcoming week, with some interesting indie names.

Fightful Select has learned of a number of named names planned for the upcoming WWE tryouts.

Fightful has confirmed indie wrestler Bruss Hamilton as another WWE tryout name.

Originally we were told that Airica Demia was set for a tryout, but have since been told that she was in Florida to train at the Dungeon 2.0 and wrestle at a showcase tonight. We're working on an update on Norotious Mimi.

TNA veteran Bhupinder Gujjar is also slated for the tryout.

Both wrestlers were at Nattie Neidhart and TJ Wilson’s Dungeon 2.0 this past week training.

In addition, Joshua Hillen, James Karnik and Regina Tarin are all set for the tryouts. They all have collegiate sports backgrounds, but are not actively wrestlers. PWInsider had reported these three as well.

At this point, do you think Comcast/xfinity customers are basically out of luck in terms of getting ESPN unlimited access?

Yes, for a while, and it's by design. The hope was always that wrestling fans with certain cable services would just get frustrated and end up switching to Hulu, which is owned by Disney, which also owns ESPN. For everyone acting like the individual ESPN Unlimited subscription numbers was the only metric and measurable in the WWE deal, it's not. Think about how many people took their $80-100 a month cable subscription and switched it to Hulu, just so they wouldn't have to pay the $30 ESPN Unlimited fee on top of what they're already paying for cable.

Will we see Britt Baker back on AEW tv in 2026 or is Tony keeping her off for the remainder of her contract?

At this point, I don't think we see her back. It's been over a year, and as best I know she's healthy. Of course, there's always the possibility of something we don't know about, but I've heard no discussions regarding her in a long time outside of when we ask on the media calls. Her deal goes well into this year.

This is my opinion and should not be aggregated!

Hi Sean, as a still young company AEW has many firsts each year. What is a first or two you predict AEW will have/do in 2026?

I think we might see our first straight up intergender one on one match in AEW. Unless there's something I am not recalling, I think that would be a first. They're certainly opening up to more intergender spots with Toni Storm and Marina Shafir. I also think we could end up seeing Forbidden Door as a TV special for the first time. I'm not sure if there will be ample NJPW star to justify it. I hope I'm wrong. It still sells very well.

  • The decision to not have the Blake Monroe vs. Thea Hail match on NXT was not a last minute one, and had been in the works for a couple of weeks.

  • Wrestling Observer Live reported recently that the "Diddy" promo from MJF wasn't known by other talent before it happened. We're told that's true, and there were a number of people not happy about it.

  • There were efforts to get cast members of Stranger Things to attend WWE Raw, but it didn't end up happening.

  • Mustafa Ali confirmed that he re-signed with TNA recently. There had been both long term and short-term negotiations.

  • Adam Pearce's comment on his video promoting Raw had nothing to do with Stranger Things, and there isn't a reference there that would fit that.

  • The WWE-Netflix deal for the WWE library is primarily archived PLE events. There are still plans to slowly roll out other content on Youtube.

  • Stephanie Vaquer does have an injury. We're not sure how severe it is, but she's been cleared for contact. It was claimed to be an ankle sprain

  • We've been asked about the Street Profits a lot of lately. They are not currently on WWE's European tour.

  • There was push back from several members of Bullet Club who had not been kicked out of the group regarding the "death" of the group.

  • As of Friday there was still no internal memo indicating Chris Jericho had left All Elite Wrestling.

  • Mercedes Martinez had not been backstage at AEW/ROH in quite some time before her departure, we're told.

As reported by Ibou of Self Made PW, the Knockout Bros did have interest from WWE. NJPW sources did not expect them to leave, even before they announced such. It was definitely a subject of conversation throughout the week leading up to NJPW Wrestle Kingdom among talent.

  • Although there have been some names like Blake Monroe and Jacy Jayne discussed for call-ups, we aren't expecting those two imminently.

  • Wrestling Observer reported that Tiffany Stratton has been off WWE TV with an injury. She last wrestled on November 1, dropping her title to Jade Cargill.

  • Bodyslam has reported there is an internal push for Drew McIntyre to beat Cody Rhodes. We did hear about that push, and even rumors internally that talent were on board. However, we did not hear of a particular direction.

Airica Demia

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful spoke to Airica Demia at WrestleCade for a new interview.

Airica admitted that she wasn't ready for her NWA debut, but called it a great learning experience. She said that she's never felt better about anything she's done than where she is in her career.

She said that she let Wrestling Open know she'd be available to work a show that weekend, and Open messaged her back for confirmation she would be eligible for the WWE ID match. She says that she got really good feedback and reassuring moments, as well as things to work on.

She said she's learned a lot in the ring from Nixon Newell, Priscilla Kelly, Brittnie Brookes

  • Looks back on teaming with Sting and Jon Moxley, and how excited he was. “It’s Sting. It’s my childhood.”

  • Asked about Bryan Danielson’s praise for him after the Samoa Joe match, says he told Danielson backstage, ’Why did you do that, dick?” Did admit that it does feel good to hear those things as an ego boost.

  • Says it doesn’t feel like he goes to work unless he’s able to bust Tony Schiavone’s balls.

  • Doesn’t take responsibility for running over a kid in TNA because the kid shouldn’t have been out so late. “Bad things happen after 11.”

  • Opens up about his mental health and how he’s gotten help and has a strong support system around him. Explains what he does to take care of himself during tough moments.

Select Answers: WrestleMania retirements, Trish Stratus, Will Ospreay

***

Do you think the days of big named superstars retiring at a Wrestlemania are over? In the past you had guys like Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, Undertaker, Batista all retire at a Wrestlemania, while this year you had guys like John Cena and Goldberg retire at SNME. Is the belief that since Wrestlemania usually sells itself, WWE/TKO can just use big names retiring to sell more tickets to lesser smaller shows like a SNME? Thoughts?

They're definitely not over. There will still be a lot of wrestlers who have their final match there. But almost none went in as a "definitely my last match" situation like Goldberg and John Cena did. Cena's was obviously bigger, but there are plenty of guys of which the pomp and circumstance of retirement should be on its own show. Michaels' had the potential of retirement. Batista said it would be his last match, but it wasn't treated as such. Austin and Taker's....just was. Ric Flair's -- everyone knew, but still the story was that maybe it wasn't. There will certainly be plenty that still have their last match there. If WWE can make a retirement a standalone draw, they will.

Who do you predict or would like to see Will Ospreay face at ALL IN London?

Whoever the world champion is, would be my guess. He's been in AEW for two years, and people were calling for him to win the world championship in 2024. The neck injury came up and even though he wrestled until late August, it's worth noting that he didn't have a singles match after June 11. He was feeling it for quite some time. All In is later in 2026, so there's a chance he can get back for that.

Since Trish Stratus was expected to wrestle for WWE again in the past year, can we expect her to return sometimes in 2026?

There were a lot of people around her and in WWE that were very surprised she didn't wrestle more throughout the year. The expectation that we'd heard was that WWE would do some sort of "25 Years of Trish Stratus" thing, and it just didn't happen. People that I speak to say she's always pitched things over the years, and has been very easy to deal with and made herself available when needed. I think we'll see her at some point in 2026.

Do you see any triple a talent being called up this year? I would love a hendry and iguana tag team

I don't expect any to get a full on call-up unless it's Vikingo. Otherwise, I think talent will just be used when WWE sees fit. I could absolutely see someone like Mr. Iguana appearing regularly on WWE TV, or someone being used in a fill in slot here and there. Unless a talent is so undeniably a crossover star, they don't have a great need to "call up" talent so to speak. It's another place they can bring talent in from as needed.

What was one of the silliest stories a talent tried to sell you, which you instantly knew, was just there to test you?

It was legitimately a few weeks ago, when a TNA rep tried to tell me that Mike Santana was effectively no-showing the tapings after he lost the title. I knew Mike Santana would never do that. He wasn't happy with losing the title, but he's a professional, and wouldn't throw away the years of hard work he's put in for something like that.

Any time anyone tells you anything in wrestling, you have to weigh what their motive may be. It's always weird when readers or fans think that isn't the first thing we do here, but it is.

How does HHH booking work? Does he do like an outline and writers take care of promos, run ins, etc?

There are a lot of creative meetings, they have a whiteboard with ideas of where they could go or how they want to get there. WWE's specific creative situation is vast, with a lot of collaborating. Ultimately writers script out the promo, with some feedback from the wrestlers. It's definitely a lot more collaborative than the Vince McMahon era, but it's also a lot more polished than the Attitude era.

But you would be surprised the level in which the promos are scripted, but WWE isn't the only company like that!

Starting with tonight's AEW Dynamite, fans may notice a bit of a change to the AEW set. Tonight's stage features the standard ramp going down, with a video wall at the back of it. There's also a curved screen going ahead.

There are two entrance areas to come from on the back "within" the boards. The recent setups have been a large horizontal video board, with entrances around the outside.

Is it safe to assume that it's Becky v AJ at mania

I haven't heard definitively, but that is the match that everyone I've talked to since the return felt like it would be the match. Which was why it was confusing when people reported that AJ Lee was back full time, because there was almost no way for them to be able to do that match at WrestleMania and stretch it out with AJ Lee being full time. They would have been on their 5th match by then. But a Royal Rumble interaction could certainly set that up.

What's happening with Buddy Matthews? Is he still hurt?

Yes, he's still hurt. It was way worse than anyone thought initially, because he worked a full match on the injury. The last I asked AEW, they weren't sure of a specific timetable for him. He said recently that he's still having nerve issues. AEW was hoping they'd get him back by the end of the year, and I'm pretty sure that's what he was hoping for too. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and I'm not sure when he'll be back.

Who would you like to open the rumble matches? I think Becky vs aj or gable vs grande could be fun

Becky Lynch and AJ Lee would be nice, but I actually think Becky Lynch can go deep in the Royal Rumble and then AJ Lee eliminates her. I would have a heel be the Iron Woman, as well. Someone who can get that Rick Martel early 90s style rub from it. I would like Asuka and Kairi to start the women's, and I would love Oba Femi and another SIRLOIN BEEF SUNSABITCH to start on the mens. Or Oba and Gable!!

Another top NXT star discussed for a call-up

Another top NXT star could be heading to the WWE main roster.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has learned that NXT World Champion Jacy Jayne has been discussed for a potential call-up to the WWE main roster. NXT higher ups believed she did a good job rising to the occasion during her 2025.

Fightful had been told years ago that Jacy Jayne had made a good impression upon her Smackdown debut. Ever since that August 2022 appearance, there has been semi-regular discussion for a call-up.

Jayne became NXT World Champion in 2025, after years of wrestling in tag teams and the mid-card scene. NXT sources that we spoke to said that when tasked with the push, she took full advantage of it in what was called a "sink or swim" opportunity.

Do think Tony Khan will take action tell the wrestlers to be more carful in the ring with the “HighSpots” after William Regals post ?

No. He will assess spots the same way he always does and always has. It's not just an AEW thing, so I'm not sure why people are going that direction. Wrestler safety always has been a problem. Arn Anderson, Rick Rude, Steve Austin, Ted Dibiase all retired in their 30s, which is almost unheard of for a wrestler of their stature now. It's always going to be a matter of protecting wrestlers from themselves, but they also know what they're capable of.

Happy New Year SRS, thanks for another great year of content! After going to World’s End in person and having a hard time seeing the street fight match and other action outside of the ring, I was wondering is it up to the venue or AEW to add more video screens in the arena?

If you mean in the concourse and the suites, that's a venue situation. If you mean within the scope of the tron and all of that, that's AEW. As best I know, the company doesn't set any up anywhere else in the venue. That's on the actual arena. There are sometimes when we are in media boxes and the companies have to request that the venues turn monitors on for us, though. I know people think that tickets are a big perk of media, but they're usually above where they even sell seats for most places, and are designed for football viewing instead of a 20x20 ring!

Does knowing the results of a match ahead of time ruin watching that particular match for you? Like if someone didn't know?

I probably know the actual results of an upcoming match less than 5 percent of the time. I can assume, like anyone else, but I'm not always clued in on who is winning those matches. I also enjoy wrestling in a different way these days. I like finding out things about the show, why they happened, how they happened. If I wasn't doing this for a job, I would probably be watching it from a purely technical aspect just for something different. But learning about how things happened is one of my favorite elements of wrestling.
