Wasn't Strickland the pediatrician/biologist/geneticist the guy Avasarala met with before. The one she said she invited him to get his opinion? And he said or convinced her to send him to Ganymede? The botanist was a belter, the guy who kept him behind called him a lucky belter loader when they walked away. They only wanted to space the inners ( Earther and Martians ).
