New Precautions and Guidelines for the Mod List

Hello there everyone,

Due to the malware situation there are going to be some changes with the way I handle mod list updates. Creators, this affects you as well, so please read.

Although I resumed Mod List updates on Feb. 10th, I do want to be clear that I AM taking precautions before listing mods as Updated/Compatible. Even though I’ve always had a disclaimer in place on all Mod List pages, I still want to help prevent you from downloading a malicious mod.

Mod List Precautions

For the time being, in order for mods to be listed as Updated in the Mod List, at least one of the following must apply:

• Creator confirms they updated the mod (via social media, their discord, etc.)
  - Creators, if you want to make sure I see your updates, you’re more than welcome to tag or message me on any of my social medias.
  
• The mod is from the creator’s own website (that they have full control over).
• The mod is from CurseForge or TSR (since both have already improved their security to protect against this malware).
• I check the mod to confirm there’s no dangerous scripts attached to it.

However, even with these precautions in place, I still can’t guarantee every mod will be 100% safe. Unfortunately, there’s only so much I can do.

New Creator Guidelines (Updated)

I did touch on this a bit a few posts ago, but I’ve made some slight changes since.

These guidelines will be in place permanently in order to not only help protect against fake/malicious accounts, but also to avoid adding new creators that upload and then disappear…never to be heard from again.

So, ALL of the following must apply before mods from NEW creators are added to the Mod List:

• Their mod must be submitted using the Mod Submission form. I will no longer add mods from new creators myself. So, if you want them tracked, please submit them.
• Their first mod must be at least one month old.
• They must show some sort of interaction within the community. Such as:
  - Posting news about their mod(s) when needed (e.g., confirm them compatible for patches, issue warning(s) when needed, etc.).
  - Keeping their mod(s) maintained.
  - Active on their social medias.
• Their mods are checked by me or another trusted source.

I don’t expect anyone to keep track of these New Creator Guidelines. You’re more than welcome to submit a new creator as soon as they publish a mod. It just won’t be added until they’ve met all of my guidelines. However, I’ll keep your report until they do (so you won’t have to re-submit).
