Patch Resilience: Moderate ℹ️
I've never liked that the Parenting Skill is limited to just Parents and Caregivers. In real life, many adults play a role in parenting and disciplining children, even if they're not the official caregivers. Sometimes, it really does take a village! This mod extends parenting, discipline, and grounding interactions to a wider range of Sims, regardless of familial relationships. Plus, it introduces nuanced restrictions based on certain Traits. Let’s break it down:
Extended Parenting to More Ages
Now, any Young Adult, Adult, or Elder can parent and discipline Children and younger Sims, regardless of familial ties. Teens can also gain the Parenting Skill and discipline Child Sims that are related to them.
Sims who are not related to the Child will have a lower chance of success compared to those who are family members.
Only Child Sims who are playable or related to your Sim can be Influenced/Forced to Shower. You can, however, ask unrelated Child Sims to clean themselves off under the "Help with Needs" menu.
Teen Parenting and Discipline
Teens can now be parented and disciplined by family members who are at least one life stage older, such as Cousins, Aunts/Uncles, Grandparents, Siblings, and any other Sims recognized as family by your Sim.
Parenting for Young Adults
Young Adults can now be parented by their Parents and Grandparents in a limited capacity.
Grandparents and High-Authority Parents can use the "Force to" interactions with their Young Adult children. For others, only the "Influence to" interactions will be available.
Exceptions: Young Adult Sims cannot be asked to Clean Up Toys, Do Homework, or Work on School Projects.
Grounding for Child and Teen Sims
Any family member who is a Young Adult or older can now ground Child and Teen Sims.
Skilling Up Maintained
You will still need to level up your Sim in the Parenting Skill in order to unlock all of the different interactions. Nothing in regards to the leveling up of the Skill has changed.
Trait-Based Restrictions
This mod also introduces interaction restrictions based on Sims' traits, life skills, and childhood phases (for Teens):
Help with Needs Interactions
Sims with the following traits will be unable to use the "Help with Needs" interaction:
Insensitive
Hates Children
Self-Absorbed
Negative Empathy
Mean Streak (Phase)
Mean
Evil
Sims will also now be able to autonomously perform certain "Help with Needs" interactions on children
Influence vs. Force to Interactions
Sims with certain traits will lose access to the "Influence to" interactions and only be able to use the more aggressive "Force to" interactions:
Evil
Mean
Hates Children
Argumentative
Negative Conflict Resolution
(Note: "Force to" interactions no longer disappear at higher Parenting Skill levels)
Teaching Social Skills
Cannot Teach to Say Sorry: Argumentative, Mean, Evil, Insensitive, Mean Streak (Phase), Negative Empathy, Negative Conflict Resolution
Cannot Teach to Say Please and Thank You: Mean, Bad Manners, Rebellious (Phase), Negative Manners
Household Chores Interactions
Lazy, Slob, and Sims with Negative Manners will have restrictions when using "Influence to" interactions for certain chores:
Mop Puddles, Take Out Trash, Clean Up Mess, Clean Up Trash, Wash Dishes: These Sims cannot use "Influence to," but can still use "Force to," which has a higher chance of failure.
Set the Table: Lazy and Sims with Bad Manners cannot use "Influence to" for this interaction but can use "Force to" with the same risk of failure.
Shower: Slob and Freegan Sims cannot "Influence to" shower but can attempt "Force to," with a higher likelihood of failure.
This mod was made possible by Sims 4 Studio and Tuning Builder.
