This hack included Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, the Red & Green prototype back sprites, and Gen 4 beta sprites. Though I am glad additional steps were taken to ensure no one got into further trouble due to it. Was Wack0 prosecuted for the act of hacking, or for the fact that they caught him sharing the game data? I assume it’s the former, but I’m curious.

2019-12-28 03:29:09 +0000 UTCI didn't want to mention this in the full article, but I'll mention it here. This guy Wack0 was prosecuted by Nintendo. There are public-record documents. I didn't include that in the article, because it would essentially be doxxing Wack0 and revealing his real name and all that. The reason Ganix modified the assets is because the raw data would have led back to Wack0, which could have potentially opened him back up to further legal action. I'm no programmer, but apparently the raw data would have made it clear where it came from, and thus how it was obtained. And yeah, there is a bit of goof troopery to be honest. I don't mean any disrespect (I wanna stress that point), but many of the people involved in all this are literally autistic, and don't get along with each other on a personal level -- a lotta bad blood. Those two things make everything run a little less smoothly than maybe they could otherwise.

He says hes got the original beta roms and data on red/green, yet hes only willing to send out SOME of the sprites on a MODIFIED rom hack? Wheres the other assets he also mentioned? I dunno man, im still questioning the validity of the original sprites still. I need to see hard evidence and we still haven't gotten it. Its all he said, she said. Now i see people wanna keep their heads down and all cause of legal issues, that i can understand. You can only say so much at one time but the way they handled all of this is damn ridiculous. And it accumulated to what? More secrets?? This whole beta community is a straight up goof troop.

That being said, it sounds as though we won’t be getting anymore from them. This is unfortunate given that there must be so much more in terms of data and code that are still and may always be unrevealed, which is deeply saddening
