Big Return Possible For The RAW 30th Anniversary Special

Coming up on January 23rd is the RAW 3oth Anniversary show. That show is also the RAW brand's go-home for Royal Rumble and we have been told about a return being talked about for that special episode of RAW.

PWUnlimited has been told by a source that a plan being heavily talked about is to have Cody Rhodes return on the Jan. 23 RAW to announce that he will in fact be entering into the 2023 Royal Rumble match just 5 days later.

Now keep in mind we were told that this is something being talked about and that the possibility of bringing Rhodes back as a surprise in the Rumble match itself is also still an option on the table. The feeling is that there could be multiple surprises at the Rumble and so why not have Cody return just a few days prior and assure fans he will be in the match if there are already other possible surprises set for the show.

Backstage News On NXT 2.0 Creative Team

Many have asked with Triple H now in charge of creative for WWE's main roster, what could that mean for the team running NXT. Could some of the members of that team be brought on the road to work on the RAW and Smackdown creative teams?

PWUnlimited has been told that as of right now Shawn Michaels will remain in control of creative for NXT 2.0 for the foreseeable future. We were told that as of right now no real changes are set to take place any time soon regarding the NXT creative team.

As previously reported by others, creative on the main roster going forward will be run by Triple H in the Vince chair with Bruce Prichard and Ed Koskey working right under Triple H.

Back in 2013 Cody Rhodes and Goldust took on The Shield's Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns to try and win their jobs back and keep their father's job with the company as well. In this retro review, we go back and talk about that match from the 2013 Battleground event.

Top RAW Stars Considered For Tag Team Spot

We have seen plenty of time in WWE where they take two singles stars, put them together, and make them a successful tag team. Back in the day, they did it with MVP and Matt Hardy, most recently Randy Orton and Riddle, and the next could be Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens.

We have been told here at PWUnlimited that there has been high consideration of making Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens a tag team going into 2022. We have already seen the pair word together and work together well both at Day 1 in the fatal-five-way and on RAW in the fatal-four-way.

It was not told to us when this will officially happen as we know one plan was already changed in the last week or so for Rollins. According to Dave Meltzer, he stated at one point Rollins was slated to win the WWE Championship on Day 1 and that plan was changed in favor of Brock Lesnar becoming the new champion.

We will keep you guys updated if we hear anything further on Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens becoming an actual tag team.

EXCLUSIVE: Info On WWE 2K22 Platform Availability

WWE 2K22 will be coming out next March after it was delayed from its original 2021 release date. This past week 2K put out a video highlighting some of the features that will be in the new game, but one thing not mentioned was where fans of the game will be able to play it.

The previous WWE mainline game in WWE 2K20 was released on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC through Steam. We have learned that as of right now that is the plan for next year's game. Media members are now allowed to apply for a code so they can review it next year leading up to the game's launch, but something interesting happened with that over the last week.

Two weeks ago code requests for media members and online streamers went up and specified the only platforms that would be available to request were Playstation 5 and Xbox One. Then this week after the latest "Hit List" trailer went out 2K changed the requests to include Steam but also changed the Playstation request from PS5 to PS4. At this time no "next-gen", PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, codes are being made available to request.

We reached out to a source at 2K and were told that at this time that is all that is to be made available. When asked if the game will be coming out for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S we were told that information on this was currently unknown as they are working hard to have the game out by next March to as many players as possible. Remember if you own a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S the previous-gen version will still work on your new console.

At this time it does somewhat look like that game may be released on previous-gen platforms only. One thing we were told is that official word on this will be announced in January and as they get closer to January and the launch of the game in March, they will have a better understanding of what consoles their game will work best and release on.

One last note is that 2K and Visual Concepts latest game NBA 2K22 that launched back on September 10th was released on Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Looking at that does make it odd that they could be having an issue with WWE 2K22 on next-gen consoles since they released a game on it just a few months ago.

Multiple Wrestlers On Why Wrestlers Are Upset Over WWE Releases

On Thursday, November 4th, 2021 WWE released 18 wrestlers from their roster. They released nine from their NXT/developmental roster and nine from their main roster. When the news came out many people in the wrestling community criticized WWE for more releases.

When you look at 2021 as a whole, WWE has released 72 wrestlers this year alone. 16 of them were still in their first contract with WWE. Of those 16, five were signed a year to a year and a half ago and 5 were signed within 2021. That there is the main issue it seems like some have with these releases.

I spoke with three professional wrestlers about the WWE releases, two that have not been in WWE before and one who is a former WWE wrestler, and all three basically told me the same thing. The issue they have with the releases is when they release people that have not even been under contract long. You sign people to deals and make them think for at least the next however many years their deal is for, they are financially secure. They agree to move to Florida, away from friends, family, and everything they know to be fully committed to WWE when in the end WWE was not fully committed to them for at least the length of their contract.

One of the wrestlers we spoke to stated that they understand why releases need to happen. They understand that WWE is a publically traded business and that they can not keep everyone they have under contract, under contract forever. Yet that WWE could go about it a different way than they have over the last few years. Especially with people that as stated above, just signed with the company and moved for WWE.

The other two we spoke with actually stated something similar but in a way, I really did not think about. They both said to me that if WWE needs to release people then they should just not re-sign them to new deals. With everything these wrestlers give up to sign with WWE, they should at least honor the contracts. Keep a list of who you think is not working out and when their contract comes up, let them go then. At least then they are more aware the release is coming. The commitment made is fullfilled on both ends and then they go their separate ways.

Now WWE is a business and sometimes you need to show you are spending less money at a specific given time and the easiest way to do so is with releases. It always sucks when people lose their jobs yet as stated above there are better ways to go about this. There are better ways than just out of nowhere to tell someone you have been let go, especially to someone who you just signed less than six months ago.

Yes, we can all criticize WWE from pillar to post about these releases and how they go about it till the cows come home and things may never change. Yet in the big picture of things, there has to be a better way for them to go about this than the way they are now. Will things ever change? We don't know but one could hope. At least fulfill your commitment to the contract signed and if in the end things are not working out with said wrestler, inform them that their deal is coming up, will not be renewed and both sides can go on their own way a little easier.

EXCLUSIVE: Reason Pat McAfee Did Not Work Crown Jewel

Pat was kept back for a just-in-case moment.

Yesterday WWE ran the Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia and the show itself was pretty good. The commentary team was was Michael Cole, Crey Graves, and Byron Saxton. Some asked why Pat McAfee was not working the show after he recently stated he was not invited to go. Yet there is no real big reason he was not brought.

We spoke with a source within WWE who stated that McAfee was not brought to Saudi Arabia just in case there was an issue with travel. In case some did not make it back in time like back in 2019, at least one of the main Smackdown announce team is back in the states able to work the show.

If you remember back in 2019 WWE had an issue where the plan from Saudi Arabia was delayed and many people slated to work Smackdown were unable to make it to the show in time. This is when WWE called upon McAfee for the first time to do commentary on one of their shows.

We got many questions asking if there was some big reason why they did not bring Pat and really it was just for a "just in case" measure if there were any travel issues.

EXCLUSIVE: Details Regarding Rumored King/Queen Of The Ring Tournaments

It has been rumored for a little over a month now that WWE would not be just running another King of the Ring tournament, but also the first-ever Queen of the Ring tournament. With that, we have been told about some details regarding the tournaments themselves.

We here at PWUnlimited have been told by a source that each tournament will feature eight superstars. Four of them from RAW and four of them from Smackdown. As previously reported by others, the tournaments are set to conclude at the October 21st Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia.

As far as when the first round of each tournament will start, that was told to us as the week after the 2021 Draft. For RAW their two rounds will be on October 4th and October 11. Smackdown's tournament matches will take place on October 8th and October 15. Then the winners of their brackets will face off at Crown Jewel in a RAW vs Smackdown match.

EXCLUSIVE: Possible Moves For The 2021 Draft, Did The Networks Influence Moves

Coming up next month will be the 2021 WWE Draft. Right now the word going around is that it will kick off on the October 1st Smackdown and conclude on the October 4th RAW. Those are the working dates right now and they could change. With that, we have heard of one possible move in the draft that really could end up being two.

According to a source we have spoken with, it looks like Becky Lynch is being earmarked to move to RAW in the draft next month. These plans are still tentative and with at least three weeks till the draft, things can change. If this plan is set in stone, then that would mean Lynch would be dropping the Smackdown Women's Championship back to Bianca Belair at Extreme Rules on September 26.

One other thing we were told was how executives at the USA Network were upset with FOX getting both Lynch and Brock Lesnar on Smackdown after SummerSlam. Now that is something that has been reported already over the last few weeks, yet we heard that the anger from USA over this may be what pressured WWE into making the decision of moving Lynch over to RAW. With Lesnar slated to be working with Roman Reigns over the Universal Title after the time of the draft, moving Lesnar does not make sense.

One final thing and we were not told this, yet one would assume that if Lynch is being moved to RAW then that would most likely mean her husband Seth Rollins would be moved back over to the red brand as well. Usually, WWE does not care about who is in a relationship with who unless it comes to married couples, and then they for the most part keep them on the same brand.

EXCLUSIVE: Update On Adam Cole's WWE Status & Contract

News broke Sunday night that former NXT Champion Adam Cole will actually become a free agent after SummerSlam/TakeOver 36 weekend. His contract reportedly was up around the Great American bash and Cole agreed to extend it some to finish the program with Kyle O'Reilly. Now we have more info on Cole's current status.

We have been told that over the last week Adam Cole has actually turned down multiple contract offers by the company. We were not given any details on what these offers may have entailed, but it is not good for WWE that Cole is not liking the offers they are putting in front of him.

We will continue to follow this story and if we hear anything else regarding cole's status with the company we will bring it to you.

EXCLUSIVE: WWE Plans For Bayley While Out Injured

Last week WWE unfortunately had to reveal that Bayley suffered an ACL injury while training. The injury came at the WWE Performance Center during WWE's mandatory extra training as they returns to the road. With that, Bayley is expected to miss up to nine months of action. Yet it looks like WWE may have a plan in place for Bayley while she is inactive.

We have been told here at PWUnlimited that WWE actually wants to have Bayley help out backstage while she is injured and help produce the women's division with TJ Wilson. We have been told that this will not completely new to her as she has helped out in a similar role over the last year. We have been told that Bayley has been someone during the pandemic era that other women can go to for help with their matches. Hence why they feel she would be great for the role.

For anyone who may ask, we have not heard if WWE would still use Bayley on screen while she is out injured like WWE has continued to do with The Miz who also suffered an ACL injury. We have been told Bayley's injury is worse than The Miz and it is unclear when she will be able to travel as she underwent surgery Thursday for the injury.

EXCLUSIVE: Current Plans For Adam Cole & Kyle O'Reilly

Last night on NXT Great American Bash we saw Adam Cole defeat Kyle O'Reilly. This was the second match in this program where O'Reilly won the previous match. The program is now at one win each and a rubber match is needed.

We have been told here at PWUnlimited that the plan for the third match between Cole and O'Reilly is expected to take place on Sunday, August 22nd. This would be the NXT TakeOver event the night after SummerSlam. If nothing changes these plans this match would be the final match in the program. We have also been told that Triple H seems to be trying to delay as much as possible either of these guys, more specifically Adam Cole, possibly getting called up to the main roster.

NXT TakeOver the night after SummerSlam is still six weeks or so away so it will be interesting to see how they can stretch out doing another match till then.

EXCLUSIVE: Reason For Multiple Specialty Matches On TV Recently

Recently we have seen a number of specialty matches on RAW and Smackdown. First, we saw a Hell In A Cell match on Smackdown with Roman Reigns and Rey Mysterio. Then we saw a Hel In A Cell match on RAW between Bobby Lashley and Xavier Woods. This past Monday on RAW we saw a strap match with Jaxson Ryker and Elias. Now tonight we will see a Last Man Standing match between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.

We have been told the reason for these specialty matches taking place on TV and not waiting to do them on pay-per-view has to do with ratings. Both FOX and USA have come apparently come to WWE about doing things to help raise the ratings as they have been decreasing over the last few months. WWE feels if we have these specialty matches for free on TV that could help draw in more fans to the shows. It is unclear how long this could last for as we were told that if this does not help the ratings pretty quickly Vince will cut it saying it did not work.

EXCLUSIVE: NXT Officials Impressed By New Signee

Back in February WWE announced the biggest class they have for the WWE Performance Center. One of those names announced as signing was Karissa Rivera. Some may remember her as playing Bobby Lashley's ex-wife during the Lashley/Lana wedding on Monday Night RAW.

This week we saw her technically make her NXT debut. She did work a match back in 2018 against Lacey Evans. This week she worked a match against Franky Monet and worked under the name Electra Lopez. They actually gave her more offense on Monet than expected and that could be because she is well-liked.

It has been told to us by one source that NXT officials have been impressed by her. It was said that they have been impressed with her more than some other recent signees and debuts. This is a good sign as WWE could be in a spot where they could be calling up names from NXT to the main roster and that they will need new wrestlers they can put on TV to potentially fill those spots.

EXCLUSIVE: Reason AEW World Title Match Was Moved

On Friday it was announced that the AEW World Title match between Kenny Omega and Jungle Boy had been moved from next week to Saturday June 26th. Yet when the announcement was made no reason was given and now we know why.

We have been told at PWUnlimited that the reason the title match was moved has to do with the taping schedule going forward. The next two week's of Dynamite will be pre-taped shows and then the 26th will be the next live show. Those in the company feel that the title match should be on the live show and not the pre-taped show, hence why the match itself was moved.

EXCLUSIVE: WWE President Nick Khan Implements New Edict For Evaluating Talent

Over the last almost two months we have seen more than 15 main roster superstars released by WWE. Some of these look like it could have been because of a new edict by WWE President Nick Khan.

We have been told that Khan has implemented a  "pure sports policy" to other high ranking members of the company. The policy is that of other sports leagues where if they feel the talent is making more than they are worth and felt to be past their prime they will be cut and replaced by a younger talent being paid less.

We have been told that this is what lead to the releases of Samoa Joe, Mickie James, and Braun Strowman. With James and Joe, we were told their ages, and the fact that the two have been out with injuries led to them being released.

As far as Braun Strowman, as others have talked about, it was felt that he was making more money than he was actually worth to the company.

Former WWE Superstar To Make IMPACT Debut Tonight

First reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Johnson reported that a former WWE Superstar who "never really got a fair chance" would debut tonight on IMPACT with a vignette.

We hear any PWUnlimited reached out and can confirm that the talent debuting tonight will be Steve Maclin. Maclin is the former Steve Cutler in WWE who was released earlier this year.

Maclin's girlfriend, IMPACT Knockout's Champion Deonna Purrazo posted a picture of the two of them in Nashville around the time of the last set of IMPACT tapings in that city. So speculation of Maclin coming in to IMPACT has been around for a few weeks now.

WWE Possibly Changing Up Internal PPV Schedule

It was reported previously that the plan in WWE was to run Extreme Rules on July 18th. It was also reported in the last few days that July 16th through the 19th could be the weekend WWE returns to the road with fans. That would include Smackdown, Extreme Rules, and RAW. Yet now that may not be Extreme Rules after all.

We have been told that talks have been going on to have the July pay-per-view actually be Money in the Bank as the first PPV back for touring with fans. That would then shift Extreme Rules to being the June pay-per-view.

Of course both the June nor July pay-per-views have been announced so they could always just go with the original plan they had in place.
