Quick update. It hasn't exactly been the most productive week leading up to Christmas. A lot of cooking, baking and wrapping...not so much rendering. I did hit a total of 555 renders. Got into a new environment, worked on a prop seen in scene 8, and have rendered about half the scene. I'm hoping to turn on the jets the next couple of weeks.

This is definitely a premature case log, but I always like to update when things are moving forward and I have a distinct feeling that things will not be moving forward on the 24th, when I have a sort of semi official date with the update. Today has been really good. I just hit render 541. I have no idea what the total render count will be for this episode. Could be that I'm over doing it? Sure, but I rather have too much than not enough. There is a good chance that I'll get into scene 9 today...I probably shouldn't have said that.

I think I have now solved the player card, music player and gallery coding. Next will be cleaning up scene 4 coding so it all works and then making mockup graphics for all 3 instances to see that it works. After that it should be pretty straight forward to take some big bites out of the rendering of the rest of the chapter.
I have a couple of render days scheduled this week the goal is to finish scene 8 and start building the location for scene 9 which is another flashback.

One of my favorite new AVNs will be releasing chapter 3 toward the end of this month. With that in mind and the fact that Amy really should have a newspaper that appears to be a newspaper and not just a stock asset her creator was too lazy to work on, I have created the first original Rackham Gazette. All the stories on the pages are real stories (except the obvious) from the 1950s with a little creative license taken to edit and punch up the content.

I'm confident that we are past the halfway mark in render numbers. I hit 470 total today, last update was around 650. The screen grab above is a cropped, mid-render shot from near end of scene 7. I thought that I would reach scene 8 today, but the environment that I'm using is so well lighted (lots and lots of windows) that it slows things down (to a crawl) I usually just turn the built-in lights off and add my own, but I liked what this looked like...so I started render and didn't immediately realize what was slowing down the process. I'm going to finish this scene and then revamp this environment, because it will be used with some frequency. Since I don't render every day, I can't afford to have simple shots take hours to render.
As you have seen, I'm well on my way with the player cards and the coding there of doesn't look terrible hard. Found a very good YouTube video on it, I just need to finish plugging in the images for scene 4 then I will put that together. I haven't found word one regarding a jukebox or playlist, so I'll have to reach out for some help on that. I think the gallery will also be in game, don't think that it makes sense to have that with the main menu.
I'm also fine tuning the banner and the Patreon site, and that will be transferred to the game menu. This is low priority. Top is to get all the renders done and the graphics for the in game buttons (player cards, gallery and hopefully music). I'll probably push the Sherlock Holms animations to next update. It won't break any saves and there is so much on the to do list for this update that I feel it can wait. I'm happy about the fact that the AVN is finding itself in terms of graphics, I wish I would have been better prepared for that from the get go, but it's moving in a good direction.
I am not done rendering today, but it's only a matter of 2-3 more renders at this pace, so I thought I'd put together the update.

So tomorrow starts a big 4 days of rendering. Very exciting, however, my building will have a scheduled power outage tomorrow between 8.00 and 16.00. I love that the city gets to be as non-specific as the cable guy used to be regarding time. So, I might opt for the late start as to not lose any work that will come with a surprise shut off. I will keep posting the cards as I finish them.

Aside from the goofy case log number (I just couldn't say that we are halfway through. I do believe that after this coming weekend we will be past the halfway mark as I have 4 days of full rendering planned.) Once I finish scene 7 and take a bite out of 8, the next chapter will be looking pretty solid. I also took some criticism to heart regarding the pacing of the project. I've been adding some "moments" while coding and adding images to give it a little fuller bouquet (fuck I'm fancy!). It's not empty-calories writing just to extend the clicking time (That was a no-no as I started this project. Respect the reader. Don't make them click through dialogue that no TV show, movie or novel would ever include.)
So first the week in review. I've done some writing, but mostly punching up the current chapter, not so much chapter 4, which is something that I'd like to do in the next few days. The render count is up to 384 total for the Chapter. I think it's a solid number for 1/3 of the chapter. Most of it I'm very happy with. There is a scene with Josephine that I think will blow your socks off (there is such an easy rephrasing of those words that would also describe said scene:-) I'm coding chapter 4, which is along with 7, 8, & 9 the biggest scene and it is almost done.
What I would love to accomplish this update:
1) Player cards that you can access during game play to refresh your memory about who you are talking to. I think this is necessary despite the recap at the top of the chapter. Once we get into chapter 6 and on, it will become hard to remember who is who...I think. And it's a nice extra. The coding of this idea is another story:-) It really shouldn't be that hard.
2) A gallery (this one I started looking into last update, but didn't quite get there.)
3) A Music player or playlist, so you can pick what is playing. This comes with my interest in broadening the scope of the music. Personally, I never have the audio on when I read an AVN, but that doesn't seem true for the majority of the AVN crowd. I am researching music subscriptions that are AVN friendly AND have the noir/jazz feel in the library. Eventually, I will add some sound effects, but they will probably only be for the sex scenes.
4) Animations for the "Sherlock Moments". I had this idea (stolen straight from Guy Richie's Sherlock movies:-) that I would add some crash zooms and whips onto what MC is talking about while in the Sherlock mode, but I couldn't get the camera to do exactly what I wanted it to do in the time I wanted to spend on it. Well, I have done some research and I think I can make that happen fairly easily, but I think this is still wish list and not absolutely necessary. It also won't break any saves...I think. While the other three might. So I'm invested in putting Pecker PI through some lasting changes, that I have been wanting to explore for the next update.
5) Better animations over all. I purchased "Limb Stick" which should in theory make the animations less rigid. I will try it out as I get closer to being done with the stills renders.
This a lot to read with no reward of sex at the end, but since you made it this far. I am committed to making the best (in my view) AVN I can. This does require some real investment in time. I'm willing to do that and I am hoping you are along for the ride!
PS Maybe I should have called this 3.5, no way I will have more to say at any point during dev of chapter 3.

There are a few things I hope to finalize in this update. Some that were a target last update, but I felt like I was running out of time. Now, I will never take any support for granted, but I feel like I can finish up what I think is necessary for the game overall and maybe push the release a week without losing support. Either way, I think there are things that need doing and I am going to do those:-) More specifics on Sunday :p I thought this (above) turned out pretty well. It will hopefully be the love interest "card" for Gabrielle in the planned in-game character menu. For someone who dislikes coding as much as I do, It's a pretty big promise. Now, I think I understand at least partially what makes a game interesting and playable (it's a little like a lover though...you never quite know for sure), and I think an in game reference to all the characters that we meet is good and even necessary. All this said, I'm not going to promise a release date until I am comfortable with making that promise. Last time around things just took longer than expected...now I know. Hope you like. I might start to post the final cards for all love interests, if you guys want to see them before they wind up in the game. Let me know below.

True to form...at least the last week or so:-) I am posting an update on Sunday. This week has actually been pretty productive despite my loud objections to coding this shit. Here is what has happened:
1) I have post processed all images for scenes 1-3.
2) I have coded scenes 1-3 and imported all images, which makes the first 3 scenes done!
3) Today I have rendered 21 stills. I am aiming to finish scene 5 renders today (take my optimistic view with a grain of salt. I will always push for more than is maybe possible.)
4) I finished writing scene 3 of chapter 4.
I think this has been a pretty good week. The render you are looking at is from today's batch. The legs of Camille...who will have blue eyes according to the poll.
On Wednesday, patrons will be able to see the nude of poll winner Amy!

I'm always happier to post an update here, where people actually care about what is going on, than anywhere else. I'm going to stay true to my original intent (this week) and post an update on a Sunday! There is some great news today.
First: we crossed 300 renders for the chapter, which probably means that this will be the largest chapter so far (at least in terms of renders, the writing is pretty much the same number of words as previous chapters (but those are some great words!:-)
Second: I am done with the speakeasy until I have to come back and do a few animations. I purchased "limb-stick", which, if I could figure out how it works, could change my animations in a big way. I might try blender, but it's a matter of enough hours in the day to learn enough to make it worth it. I prioritize quality and I feel like it shouldn't be impossible to make Daz do what I want it to do. So I'm already in Daz, and I will make a real attempt to make that to work.
Third: I'm writing chapter 4. I don't quite understand devs who manage to write, render, post, and code in the same block of development. To me the writing is what really matters (so it needs to be ironed out well ahead of time)...no great render will make up for me phoning it in on the writing side. So I will try to put down a good amount of chapter 4 scenes this week, along with the long postponed coding and some photoshop post work. No rendering until next weekend as I will be away from home and the PC (no, my mac laptop is not the render tool one would like it to be).
4th: Meet Danielle's dad, Vincent Bellarosa. Proper Gangster. Does he say, "Don't fuck my daughter"? Or does he say, "Please fill my daughter with all the jizz you have available"? (That seems unlikely.) You'll find out in chapter 3.

No reason to drag you guys down with the ship, right? Today has been a phenomenal render day. We are at 223 renders total for the chapter. I'm not done with the day, but due to previous miscalculations, I'm not going to make a guess at where we will land tonight. I have been thinking about one more poll that will need to be had once we get further into the case and that is whether to add an "Episode Character" into the regular LI stable. You all will probably know who I'm referring to in next or following chapter. It's very hard to drop any of these girls.

Not the first time we see her, but it will be the first conversation with the icy daughter of a mob boss. Tread carefully, partners of this beauty have a tendency to end up as fish food.
I had one ok render day and one really good render day over the weekend. I'm still working on the speakeasy scene. It has gotten a little more involved than I first envisioned, but I think it deserves a good look.
Currently I'm at about 195 renders. Once I'm done with the speakeasy I will have hit the 1/3 mark on finished renders. I haven't done much of the coding (frankly the thing that I dread doing), but I think this week is when I put a dent in the coding. I've also been looking at adding some more music, but haven't found a service that has awesome music. I'm fine spending a bit of money on the tunes, I just want to find a service with a somewhat deep library of the type of music I think should be in Pecker PI. AudioJungle has some great songs, but they aren't NSFW friendly. So search continues.

Is it fun to have atmosphere? Yes! I would probably do it in almost every situation for this particular AVN. Alas, I cannot do it and put out more than a chapter a year...so lets not dwell on it. This is a nice and clean render to provoke dirty thoughts. And it doesn't look like shit.

So the Atmosphere Gambit as I call it, has turned out to be unmanageable. This particular render took 2 hours and I tried it twice to see if I could make it work. All in all it has basically taken up all day and most of my hair. If I wasn't already drinking a beer...you get the picture. The above has ALL the noise reduction, crushed blacks that the image can handle and it's still not acceptable. A wasted render day for sure. Don't worry, that sweet ass will get it's render.
I haven't really communicated what the plan for Pecker PI is, but as you may have guessed it will be much like a TV episodic. Some characters will only be in one specific episode (case) while the majority will continue to develop their relationship with the MC. I have ideas for the next two cases already and they will tie into some aspect of already established characters.
So we are getting frightfully close to 10 patrons, and I have decided that when we cross certain landmark membership thresholds, I will post a poll for a nude pinup of one of the Love Interests that we have met, and make something saucy for all to enjoy. So I figure its 10, 25, 50, 100 and so on.

I may have stumbled on a practical way of rendering with atmosphere. Above is the result (with minor photoshop denoise and black level up). I'm going to place this chapter's first new love interest character and I'll post that result as well. I might ditch the original wall sconces, I prefer the table lamps...or maybe it's both?
