I'm always fucking TERRIFIED when I get a full color with a full background because I want to make it interesting and cool. So quickly can the background get away from you and the characters look like they're just pasted in. That being said, I think this piece came out really successful. The perspective is really fun and the whole image makes me feel nostalgic for getting ready to go to a party/ festival <3

Really took the time to focus on the rendering of the black latex. Normally the latex I make it toned somewhat or full of a lot of pattern so this gave me extra time to focus on the subtlety of latex rendering! I feel like I learned a lot <3

A December patreon reword for Rahka <3 ! I'm finding myself very comfortable in water scenes which is odd since I don't draw them too often. I hate to say it, but I think my time in Florida at the beaches really gave me a better idea of what sea life looks like. Being born in a landlocked state, I never got to experience the ocean first hand. When rendering out the main body, I think of the fish I caught on the pier. Really beautiful when reflected in the light!

I need a witty title for when I actually post this so HMU with your best ideas. Anyways, Rahka and Izzy both combined their monthly patreon gift to get one badass looking piece! I struggled real hard to get a working version finished for Midwest Furfest so that I could put it in my book. Afterwards I was able to come back and we made a handful of alts including this NSFW one you see! I could not be more happy with the way this came together, I rarely get to explore techy sort of designs so it was a challenge but otherwise successful!

Its been a HOT second since I've had the delightful experience of a YCH. Don't get me wrong, commissions are fun but often times I'm given strict instructions to follow. Being able to build this commission up with few WIPs back and forth really allowed me to spend extra time exploring my rendering style a bit. I tried to push the colors in the shadows. I started this piece before Midwest Furfest/ my vacation and then finished it when I got back. The two week rest really made a difference, the initial shading was very weak. But after having the time to rest and come around, I feel really confident about the shapes in the shadows and highlights. It really goes to show breaks and vacation are so important to the artistic process. But enough about me, lets admire this purple kitten in awe.

I used the pin up I made for Databank as an example to pick apart to create this tutorial! This is a rough step by step on how I like to approach shading. No way is right and there are differences everyone has. I tried to break down the layer set up as best as I could.
This assumes you already have a drawing down. It starts with breaking down the base color layer. Good luck!
