20220806 scribble
hey all, hope you're well. it felt kind of weird to say "ok, i'm mostly situated at the new place" then say nothing for some time, so here is a further update.
i've been poking at projects left unfinished at the time of the move, and it's been worryingly hard to get into any kind of zone or groove at all. nothing really feels like much of anything, and everything i do feels very uninspired and negative. i don't really know why this is, and also don't feel like i'm in much of a place to ask much about it - i'm probably just exhausted and don't want to admit that upending a decade of my life and having to adjust to something different is taking longer than i would like. i tend to be very hard on myself in regards to my output needing to be constant and visible, and i always think very poorly of myself for not delivering - not for others, even, but for myself - even when all of my energy is going towards other things that need to take priority.
i have been working on a third track for the current EP-in-progress, and i hope that resolving its current state will help a lot with motivation, it's always nice to just get stuff done. i can only get a lot of work done in the evening hours at the moment, as my studio is too humid to work in (and i can't run a powerful dehumidifier and my air conditioner on the same circuit) during the day. thankfully there will really only be another month of this heat and humidity, and i also hope that will energize me a bit. being on the third floor of an apartment (or in an apartment at all) is new to me, so i wasn't really prepared for what it would do to my body. i have to spend most of the day in the living room by the air conditioner for now, and working there is an ergonomic nightmare, so mostly i've been sketching out ideas on my iPad to bring back into the studio for refining once it cools down...
i do quite like the place so far, it's just going to take some time for me to feel, idk. sane, lol. i am unpacking a lot of stuff mentally that was just kind of stewing while i stagnated at my last place.
it looks like the batch of HALCYONDAZE reprints will be arriving next week or so, and shipping will start as soon as they arrive.
i think that's it for now. hopefully more and better news soon. thanks for the love and support through this admittedly very uncomfortable in-between time.
2022-08-02 06:21:00 +0000 UTC View Posthey all; i'm mostly settled in at the new place. it'll be about mid-week until i'm up and running completely as i need to replace some lost power adapters and whatnot. expect Stuff soon! it has been an extremely exhausting and exciting week in equal amount.
good energy your way and thank you for the ongoing support. here's hoping it's all looking up from here. <3

as my move is drawing near i'll probably have less to post here for a little while. packing is going to take a decent amount of time, and it'll probably take a week or so for me to get settled in at the new place. hopefully once i'm settled i'll be in more of position to get stuff done, but in the mean time stuff is probably gonna be pretty sparse.
cheers and thanks a ton for the ongoing support
2022-06-23 00:26:12 +0000 UTC View Postthis is an update to the previous ITI instrument pack: https://www.patreon.com/posts/iti-instrument-60910342 all of the info can be found in the linked post.
it now approaches 800 files, or over 600 unique instruments.
as this is a work in progress, please do not distribute the pack in full.

between other work and the move it's taking an eternity to work out the rest of this project (not a full album, don't get too excited!), so i'm sharing this track in advance to all patreon supporters since i don't think it's fair to keep yall waiting so long.
please don't share/mention outside of patreon for the time being!! ideally i wanted this to be more of a surprise to general audiences.

as i'm selling my model:cycles, i've decided to record all the patterns i have saved on it at the moment. attached to this post, you can find FLACs of each pattern that also include each instrument track solo'd for sampling in your own work.
2022-06-11 21:55:54 +0000 UTC View Posti have to fill this space with a bunch of text because patreon makes previews of text posts for non-subscribers so i am filling this space with a bunch of text. i'm not actually entirely sure how much space i need to fill, but i can assume it should be about this much. i can't imagine they'd show this many words to non-subscribers. that would be kind of outrageous.
here's some more just in case. you never know, i guess.
anyways, the discount code for today is pat2386452 and can be entered on the popup when you click buy/add to cart on the item. i think you have to do it for each item added to the cart.
note that discount codes are NOT offered for shirts as i am not the one selling them. they are directly from the illustrators and all earnings go directly to them.

last update on this: these will be live at https://halleylabs.com/merch at 6PM EST tomorrow.
like the last shirts that went up, those will be direct from the artist and i'll post the link once they're live.
i'm not able to change shipping addresses or combine orders so make sure all of your paypal and bandcamp info and whatever else is up to date. you can use the "add to cart" function on bandcamp if you plan on getting more than one thing.

my "great wall" harsh noise wall synth plugin is now available for patrons to play around with. every knob on this does a lot of things, so play around and see what happens. it will generate sound as long as there is a MIDI input note. you can hold a key then flick the "lock" switch at the top left to keep the key held.
the three holes around the "GENER8" knob are modulation outputs, and the holes beside "DEPTH", "MUTATE", and "WAIL" are inputs. click and drag between an output and input to join them. right click at the connection point to disconnect the wire.
64bit VST3 only, relies heavily on windows-only SynthEdit modules. the ZIP is attached to this post.
many DAWs will require that your VST3s be in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 folder. you may be able to rename the .vst3 file in the great wall folder to a .dll to get it to work on VST2 hosts, but it is not guaranteed.
DO NOT DISTRIBUTE
2022-05-25 19:21:49 +0000 UTC View Posthey all; my new place is secured and i'll be moving in july. the next couple months will be pretty all over the place between packing everything up, getting set up in the new place, and shipping orders, so there'll probably be a little less actual output until i get settled. i'll try to keep at it in the mean time but energy levels are going to be a little bit lower until i'm sorted.
cheers and thanks for everything.

mario paint tape loop session from last night, HD is still processing but here's the link regardless.
https://www.mediafire.com/file/6tyolj56troduqm/2022_05_13-14_mairopaint_tapeloop_omnichord.mp3/file trimmed down audio recording with most of the noodly "finding the sound" bits removed. also tacked on part of the omnichord set from the previous night since it's the only part i had of that in full quality, whoops

hey there - just wanted to say that the RS CDs will be available may 28th, along with some spare copies of halcyondaze and absolute artifact. i'll be hopefully printing more copies of halcyondaze some time this year, but in the mean time i'm getting this stuff sold off to help fund my upcoming move.
not quite sure on the time they'll go live yet, but likely the usually afternoon-evening.
please stay tuned for more things, i have some music on the way that you will enjoy, i think.
thanks for the ongoing support. <3

hey all, hope you're well
been working a bunch of stuff the last couple weeks and will have much to show for it soon, i think. here's a quick thing in the mean time.
i've placed an order for 200 copies of the RHODE STRIXMAN disc. it and a shirt will be available hopefully later this month. please stay tuned for info. disc will be priced at $15+ship, shirt at $30+ship (direct from artist's shop, will go live with CD).
in the midst of all this, i've decided to start looking for a new place. i have some appointments next week and ideally i'll be out of here some time soon enough. things are going to be hectic in the mean time and i'm going to try to get some more merch stuff happening to make the move affordable. wherever i end up will be more expensive by a significant margin, but i simply can't deal with a shared house with people i don't know any more. the lack of privacy and total disrespect for it being a shared environment is chipping away at my sanity and i need to take action even if it is less affordable.
thank you for your patience as i work through this. i've lived here for a decade now and it's going to be a significant effort to pack up and move somewhere new. one step at a time, i suppose.
2022-05-06 05:06:15 +0000 UTC View Posthello! i mentioned this on twitter and in the discord but totally failed to here as it's been a busy couple days around the house for me.
i'll be taking a couple weeks or so to be a little less online as i'm currently trialing some ADHD medication, finally. i'll be working on things more or less like normal, just gonna hunker down and focus on that and socializing while i take care of myself and adjust to the change. i'm hopeful for improvement, the past few months have been especially awful for focus and mental energy.
i have a couple plugins in the works, have started some music projects, and will be actively starting work on the final map of time tripper circuit02 soon enough. plenty to juggle, and i'll try to bounce between work on everything so stuff gets done in a "reasonable" timeframe.
cheers and best wishes, be back sooner than later, hopefully with goodies to show for it!

Reelism 2 v1.0 is dropping tomorrow and i was happy to do a (rather funny) track for a new game mode. i can finally share the complete version of the track here, along with the IT file (play/view in OpenMPT) used ingame. i wanted to get a lot of mileage and fidelity out of a sub-megabyte file and feel like i met that goal!
you can check out reelism at https://reelism.dog/ - but wait until tomorrow for version 1.0! you need a registered copy of doom 2 to play.

i'm not sure i ever made decent recordings of the scribbles i did while working out TriloTracker on the msx. i was recording some SCC waveforms from it tonight and figured i might as well do that now. just a bunch of little doots.

a quick one - just wanted something to act as a bit of a caricature of the NES' RF audio fidelity. it's a bit crunchy, has very low bandwidth, and has hum/buzz interference options built on what i learned making the "mains" plugin.
[not an april fools joke, just a thing i wanted]

too busy today to write much about this here but i wanted to design an 808 cowbell synth that i could "circuitbend" into all kinds of musical uses. downloads are attached. 64bit vst3 and 64bit au only. for more info on why see https://heckscaper.com/plugins/
the image above is the "manual" for now. there's not much to it, i have confidence you can figure it out.

feel something squirming
and i want out
of this place, of this nothing
something else to think about
not a night in your rosebed
not the evening rain
not your warmth not your memory
not here again
no more forever
no more forever

final (i think) version of the music for the last map in the second episode.
i cheated a little bit on the file size for this one - it's just over 1000kb, but also includes the music for the previous map in the same file. i was shooting for ~500kb each, so it works out and lets me share some particularly big samples between the two tracks.

i have not made any Physical Things in a while and feel like i want to soon... so here is a mockup of a thing i want to do some time... there's no timeframe for it but i thought i should let you know it's something i'd like to get done.

these tracks are nothing new to patrons, but they've all been sitting in a folder for this EP for a year now. i'm not quite sure how to wrap it up, so i'm releasing it as-is so i can move on from it. download is name your price so just enter 0 on bandcamp to grab in whatever format you want.

what it says on the tin - these plugins are now available to the general public. you can get the final versions at https://heckscaper.com/plugins/ - though they don't differ much (or at all?) from the current patreon versions as no issues have been reported.
thanks again for the ongoing support and affording me the ability to offer these kinds of things to everybody.

hey all, just a quick update. work has wrapped on the biggest map of the set, which is very exciting. it was a solid month of work with several hours put in every day, but i think it's been worth it. it will certainly be a bit divisive, as it is big and cryptic.
the entire project has seen numerous rebalances, graphic updates, and so on over the past couple months. it's like an entirely different thing at this point and i'm very happy with the form it's taken.
there are two more maps i'd like to knock out for this episode, thankfully they are significantly smaller conceptually than this enormous city map i've just finished. after that, it's time to string all of this episode's stuff together.
i've also been working on its soundtrack, which i think is just about done.
alongside that i've been working on some new resource packs and plugin stuff, hope to have more on that soon.
thanks for your patience on this one, i think it will be a cool experience for those interested, and i think the associated soundtrack will be a treat on its own.
once this episode of time tripper is out, i'll be taking a break from it to work on other things, as this has more or less had my full attention and obsession - which is paying off, i think, but i would like to get back to other projects sooner than later.
as for life stuff, i've been keeping myself more occupied than usual with this as i change medications and feel them out. i am also scheduling some labs to look into why i'm experiencing GERD symptoms. in the interim, i have been put on a PPI and it seems to be helping.
it has been a weird winter (as always), and that has been exacerbated by some housemate related issues that i'm trying to resolve. if you live with somebody, be mindful of how loud you do things. wear headphones when possible in a shared house. nobody wants to hear your loud-ass tv or games or whatever and noise pollution is extremely stressful, especially for those with autism, sensory processing issues, etc.
that's all for now. thanks as always for everything, please look forward to more stuff soon, and thanks for understanding as i continue to put more time into bigger things.
