Lost in You v0.4 progress update #3

Meet our group of adventurers!

You heard that right, v0.4 will start a recurring Dungeons and Dragons campaign part of the Lost in You cast will be participating in. This campaign will play out over the course of the entire game so don't expect the big finale to occur in v0.4 just yet.

How does it work?

When I say Dungeons and Dragons I really just mean the rough idea of a D&D campaign but not an in-depth faithful recreation of what an actual campaign would look like. I've taken some... creative liberties with it. The campaign will follow a mostly linear story with small side quests you can perform in free-roam sections that unlock extra and/or alternative content. V0.4 will feature one such free-roam section with a small "fun" side quest in its introduction to the D&D campaign.

Lost in You v0.4 progress update #1

Hi there!

With v0.3 out for subscribers, work on v0.4 is underway. This update will be a little different from what you're used to. V0.3 served as a sort of setup for the events that will follow in v0.4: the beach trip! Now how exactly is v0.4 different from any previous update? Isn't it just new locations? Well... v0.4 will be one long chain of events (kind of like the start of the game up until the first weekend).

Every main character you've met up to this point will be given some individual attention on this trip and there will be plenty of fun events featuring several of them. Now, there will be slightly fewer events in this update, but that's compensated for by the fact that quite a number of the events will be significantly longer than the average Lost in You event up to this point. My planning document has a total of 18 new events listed for v0.4 with it being a relatively even split between character and main events.

Patch-only updates

With the game's size increasing I'll be releasing patch-only updates alongside the full-size game downloads starting with v0.4. This means you won't have to redownload the entire game, only new files or files that have changed. I was originally going to start doing this with v0.3 but the difference in download size would've been minimal so opted to postpone.

I'll be posting at least one more write-up about things to come in v0.4 (I've teased what it's about in the WIP channel on Discord a while ago so anyone in the Cute Maid tier or higher might have an idea already).

Update format changes

So given the fact there's not much being added in terms of new features, I won't be making full progress updates all the time anymore. When I have something important to share I'll still do a write-up, but I'm going to switch to doing mostly previews instead of full progress reports from now on. What that does mean is that I'll be posting these more frequently! Once a week you can expect a new preview image with a short caption unless there is another major announcement I have to make. Special renders will also no longer claim the spot of an update/preview, both will now be released alongside each other with the preview on the weekend and special renders during the week.

Lost in You v0.2.1 patch

This patch addresses a bug in the event requirements for "Edge of the world" that would lock you out of progressing if you choose to reject Hina in "First time". If you did not reject Hina this patch is not necessary and the bug will be fixed in v0.3.

You can manually patch the game by dropping the attached "scripts.rpa" file inside "Lost in You/game" and overwriting the existing file when prompted to.

Lost in You v0.3 progress update #1

With the public release of v0.2 out now I can fully focus my attention on the next update. Progress is steady and the June 30th deadline I laid out a while ago seems very doable.

Light-hearted healing

After v0.2's events, I'm sure we can all use some light-hearted fun, and the very first thing you'll see when continuing the story from the last update is the return to the spotlights for Tomori! This goofball arrives just in time to provide a much-needed distraction from all the problems in the world. Except... she's come to your door at night asking for help with a problem of her own. What could she possibly need at this hour? And is that an unfamiliar room you see?

Picture messages

V0.3 will introduce a new feature: picture messages (wow, so original)! At certain points in the story, a character might send you a private message with a picture attached. This is mostly just small bits of bonus content with short text message interactions. You'll be able to access all the messages you've received from their respective character's overview screen with a new button:

The messages button will display the phone icon in red if you have unseen messages so you always know in case you've missed something.

Revised update schedule/development cycle

Hi there!

Now that v0.2 is officially out for $5+ Patrons we look to the future, and I don't just mean v0.3... Based on the last few weeks, or even months of development I've decided to move to a semi-strict bi-monthly (8 weeks) release schedule. You heard it right, less waiting for updates! 😉

Concrete dates for upcoming releases as well as their working titles (which might give you a little hint, however vague it may be, as to what you can expect) are:

v0.3 (Preparations)

• Patreon release: June 30th
• Public release: July 14th

v0.4 (Summer fever)

• Patreon release: August 25th
• Public release: September 8th

1 week break

v0.5 (Jet lag)

• Patreon release: October 27th
• Public release: November 10th

The 1 week break between v0.4 and v0.5 isn't entirely relaxation, as I'll be abroad on company business for a while. It also serves as a bit of a buffer (which I hopefully won't need) in case v0.4 requires a little more development time.

Please note that these are just estimates and are by no means set in stone. I will do my best to release on, or as close to the indicated dates as possible but I make no promises. That said, if current progress towards v0.3 is anything to go by, that June 30th deadline should be very doable!

Lost in You v0.2 progress update #5

We're almost there! Next week will mark the official launch of Lost in You v0.2! I'm really excited to get this new update in your hands and I'd love to hear what you think about it once you get to play it.

A new student joins the class

Yui joining the dorms (progress update #2) also means we have a new student in our class! Because of course the new girl would end up in our protagonist's class... why wouldn't they? Will her introduction go better than a certain blonde goofball's?

Android support

As mentioned in the last progress update, v0.2 marks the start of official Android support. Builds will be distributed in the following places:

• Patreon (subscriber and public releases)
• https://atrx.itch.io/lost-in-you (public releases)
• https://liygame.com (public releases)

The Windows/Linux/Mac builds ship with minimally compressed assets resulting in a build of the game that currently weighs in at roughly 1GB. Android limits the size of APKs to just 2GB, meaning if I want to keep supporting Android, compression will be a must down the line. So as to not suddenly reduce the quality of mobile versions with future versions, I've decided to compress images, videos and music from the get-go.

But with compression comes quality loss, right? Will I be playing a sub-par version of the game if I decide to play on my phone?

Whilst yes, there is technically a loss of quality, it is relatively minimal and would be very hard to notice at mobile screen sizes. There is essentially 0 noticeable quality loss on phones and whilst I don't own a tablet to test on, the emulated version of the game looks perfectly fine at tablet resolutions. If you're a mobile gamer, be sure to give it a shot!
