As I'm sure you have noticed we have been releasing more and more animated map at the moment. 🎥🗺️ Going forward we’ll be releasing one animated map per week, and we want to make sure they strike the right balance: bringing the world to life without distracting your players.
Today we’ve put together a Forest Campsite 30x30, complete with flickering campfires, swaying trees, and just the right amount of atmosphere. Some say the Queen still lingers within, her spirit bound to an ancient oath. Others whisper of a hidden power buried beneath the ice, waiting for those bold enough to uncover it…

🗺️ Adventure Hooks for the Everfrost Palace
❄️ The Winter Throne – The palace’s throne room holds the key to breaking Frostreach’s eternal winter, but doing so may awaken the Queen’s forgotten wrath.
❄️ Shadows in the Ice – Strange figures are seen moving within the palace at night. Are they spirits, survivors, or something much worse?
❄️ A Queen’s Bargain – The Winter Queen offers a deal: recover an artefact from the deepest ruins of Frostreach, and she will grant the party safe passage through the ice-blasted lands. But can she be trusted?

Long ago, this city thrived in defiance of the icy winds that would claim lesser settlements. At its heart lay an ancient red dragon, imprisoned within ice but radiating enough warmth to sustain life. The people of Frostreach worshipped this echo of a mighty beast, building their lives within the protective warmth it provided.
One fateful day, the echo failed, the dragon’s warmth faded, and the city fell to the merciless cold. Its people, frozen in place, became a grim testament to the power of the elements.
Now, thousands of years later, Frostreach is but a ruin, haunted by ghosts, stalked by beasts, and sought by treasure hunters lured by its lost riches. This week, we bring you three key locations within this desolate frozen graveyard.
🔥 Frostreach Bridge – Once a mighty bulwark spanning the frozen fjord, this grand bridge served as the western entrance to the city. Time and ice have worn it down, but it still stands as a silent sentinel, whispering stories of the past.
🏕 Looter’s Camp – A band of treasure hunters has set up camp just outside the crumbling city walls, seeking to plunder whatever riches may remain. But Frostreach does not part with its secrets so easily…
🐉 Frozen Dragon – At the heart of the city lies the very dragon whose warmth once sustained it. Now nothing more than an immense, ice-entombed relic, its presence still lingers, a slumbering god whose breath long since faded.

Greetings, travellers!
I'm sure like me, lots of you have been absolutely captivated by Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 over the past few weeks!
It really does stand out as not only a fantastic game, but a faithful depiction of medieval life, I've definitely learned a lot that I'll be using in map making going forward.
As a small tribute to this incredible game, we’ve recreated Castle Semine in stunning detail—and it’s completely free for everyone!
The site of a rather important wedding early game, my incarnation of Henry got into more than a bit of trouble with the guards while trying to map out the castle! They don't take to trespassing very kindly is all I'm saying.

Why Castle Semine?
Castle Semine stands as a testament to small medieval fortifications, not all castles need to be huge imposing things, the minor nobility need somewhere to live too.
It was just so well thought out by Warhorse Studios, I couldn’t resist bringing this location to life through cartography! All credit for the design though must go to them.

A humble oasis hamlet built atop the ruins of an ancient shrine. The shrine itself—now a simple stable—hides long-buried secrets that could change the fate of the village. Is the past best left undisturbed?

A massive, shattered stone statue, half-buried beneath the desert winds. Legends claim it was once a god, a king, or a guardian. Something stirs beneath it. Are the whispers in the wind just tricks of the mind… or an omen?
⚰️ The Tomb of the First King - 14 Variants
A long-lost crypt, sealed away for centuries. Traps, guardians, and the lingering will of the First King still haunt its corridors. What treasure—or horror—lies within?
🏺 Adventure Framework: “The King’s Awakening”
These maps can be used together for a short, 3-part desert adventure centred on an ancient ruler’s forgotten past.
Act 1: Secrets Beneath the Hooves (The Village of Ashurak)
The party arrives in Ashurak and hears rumors of strange disturbances—animals growing restless, the village’s well turning bitter, and an old stone tablet uncovered beneath the stable.
Studying the tablet reveals the location of a great tomb, linked to a powerful, long-forgotten king.
But they’re not the only ones interested… a mysterious group is also seeking the tomb, and they don’t plan to share.
Act 2: The Statue’s Curse (The Desert Colossus)
The party heads toward the First King’s tomb, but first, they must pass through the ruins of the Desert Colossus.
The statue is more than just stone—a trapped spirit or a buried construct may awaken if the party disturbs it!
This location offers a great puzzle, combat, or lore reveal about who the First King really was.
Act 3: The King’s Wrath (The Tomb of the First King)
Entering the First King’s Tomb, the party faces ancient traps, spectral guardians, and rival treasure hunters.
The deeper they go, the more they learn—was this king a tyrant or a protector?
At the heart of the tomb, a choice: seal the king’s spirit forever… or awaken him?

Dense jungle foliage parts to reveal the crumbling remains of a stone gateway, half-swallowed by creeping vines and ancient roots. Weathered statues of unknown deities watch silently as your party steps onto the path of a lost civilization. But beware—something still guards these ruins…
🔹 Possible Encounters:
Feral Tribes – Survivors of the lost civilization, protecting their sacred lands.
A Cryptic Warning – An ancient pillar inscribed with a prophecy of doom, warning against trespassing further.
2. Jungle Causeway – The Path of Kings
A massive stone causeway, raised above the jungle floor, stretches into the distance. Once a grand highway for an empire, now it is cracked and broken, overrun by choking vines and ambush predators lurking in the shadows. Ancient glyphs pulse faintly with forgotten magic, hinting at the power that once ruled here.
🔹 Possible Encounters:
A Living Jungle – Vines that snare and strangle the unwary.
Bridge Collapse! – Sections of the causeway crumble beneath the party’s feet, revealing deep chasms or hidden horrors below.
The First Signs of Xal’Murzir – A massive relief carved into the stone, depicting the civilization’s final days… and their terrible fate.
3. The Ziggurat of Xal’Murzir – Throne of the Forgotten
Towering above the treetops, the Ziggurat of Xal’Murzir stands as the final testament to a people lost to time. Massive stone steps lead upward to a temple sealed by magic, where secrets of godlike power may still lie untouched. But the deeper the party explores, the more they realize…
🔹 Possible Encounters:
The Last Priest-King – A mummified ruler, still clinging to undeath, desperate to complete a ritual interrupted centuries ago.
Cursed Relics – Magical artifacts left behind, waiting for those foolish enough to claim them.
A Terrifying Truth – The city didn’t fall to war… it fell to something far worse, and its prison may not hold forever.
🌿 Adventure Hook: The Doom of Xal’Murzir
The party has been hired by a scholar obsessed with the fall of Xal’Murzir. Legends speak of a civilization so powerful that even the gods feared them—until one day, they simply vanished.
What destroyed them? Was it the wrath of the gods? A forbidden ritual gone wrong? Or did something far older and far worse consume them?
The answer lies within the Ziggurat, but some doors are better left closed…

This week, I bring you Driftwood Maw, a floating pirate haven cobbled together from scrap wood and shipwrecks, lashed into a chaotic yet somehow functional stronghold of the seas!

Dawnspire: The Final Map of 2024
Perched astride the narrow strait that separates King’s Bay from the vast eastern sea, Dawnspire is a fortress of legend. Whether it’s one city or two remains a matter of debate, but one thing is certain—this citadel is an impenetrable stronghold. With its Great Chain spanning the water and its defenses braced against both land and sea, any would-be invaders must endure not one but two relentless assaults. It’s no wonder this strategic marvel has stood untaken for generations.
The city of Dawnspire, long the seat of the illustrious Brightmoor Family, has been plunged into turmoil since the recent—and some whisper suspicious—death of the venerable Earl Gladstone Brightmoor. His twin sons, Markus and Duncan, inherited the city, but rather than uniting its people, they have divided it. The maritally inclined Duncan now commands the north shore, focusing on fortifications and military strength, while the shrewd and mercantile Markus oversees the bustling south shore, from his luxurious manor, prioritising trade and commerce.
Note: I have included this crest in your download folders for Journeyman Surveyors and Above. If you would like me to create assets for you to build your own heraldry let me know!
This growing rift between the brothers has sown seeds of discord throughout Dawnspire, with tensions simmering just below the surface. Feuding heirs are always a harbinger of unrest, and this city is no exception. Perhaps a clever group of adventurers could find opportunity in the chaos—aligning with one brother, playing mediator, or pursuing their own designs in the shadow of the Brightmoor feud…

To celebrate the season, I’ve also crafted a Winter Festival Variant, available for free to both premium and free members! During the rare winters when the Dawn Strait freezes over, the locals come together atop the ice to feast and revel—a heartwarming tradition amidst the cold.

What’s New This Week?
I know I have said this before but I think this week is one of our most ambitious projects to date, The Inn of Many Things!
Using the Bastions Mechanics from the new DMG Guide 2024, I have created 5 different locations that your players can use through their adventures, running from level 1 to 17.
As your PCs increase in level they get access to more and more facilities, such as an armoury, barracks, arcane study, library etc. All of these and many more are present in the Inns of Many Things!
Including unique bedrooms for all the major player classes.
More Bastions Assets to Come
Using assets that I created for this map I will be releasing all of these rooms as separate entities so that I can add them to our ever increasing portfolio of Bastion Builder Assets so keep an eye out for that tomorrow!

As I mentioned before I have also created 5 additional versions of the Inn of Many Things at Lvl 1, 5, 9 and 15 respectively. That way your players can watch their bastions grow over time!

Hey all!
As promised I have another addition to our Bastions Builder Assets that we started last week. This time it's all about castles, and while this is by no means all of the castle assets we will need, these 39 should get you started!
To prove it, I have myself 20 minutes and built this perfectly reasonable castle using only the asset here.

A mighty castle indeed, Castle Direshield has long guarded the southern approaches to the realm of Virentia. Inspired by the real life Goodrich Castle, this fortress is begging to be sieged or perhaps become a base for your players!

A remote settlement on the shores of a hostile country, Varen’s Landing is but a toe hold upon the land of Novarria. The home of a small garrison and a handful of families, this small bastion is no doubt in need of help from a band of brave adventurers!

Inspired by the real-world Old Sarum in England, this map blends an Iron Age hillfort with a medieval keep. In my world, Sarum commands the surrounding plains and is renowned for its exceptional horses. The layout is perfect for defence, trade, or intrigue—what story will you tell here?
Bastion Assets: Build Your Stronghold
With the new Dungeon Master’s Guide introducing Bastions, I’ve created all the Basic Rooms to help you and your players design and expand their strongholds. This week’s release includes:
Kitchens / Storerooms / Bedrooms / Dining Rooms / Parlours / Empty Rooms / Courtyards
You’ll also get corridors, doors, and stairs to start crafting your Bastion right away. These assets are designed for easy customization, with Cramped (2x2), Roomy (4x4), and Vast (6x6) sizes to match your needs!

Protected by high walls and steep cliffs, Stormcrest has sat atop Mt. Aulethil for thousands of years.

Stoneperch
Balanced on the edge of a treacherous cliff, Stoneperch is a place that few people would wish to find themselves.
Yet sitting upon one of the few navigable passes through the Eagle Talon Mountains, many are forced to endure the hospitality of Stoneperch's surly population. Just watch your step, the carrion birds at the base of the cliff are exceedingly well fed....

I can't imagine a more inconvenient time for enemies to show up then when you have to scale a steep cliff...
