Thursday Throwback

Spring is here and I can already feel the warmth. I love all the colors and the trees around me are starting to pop. This is the best time of year in Las Vegas before the furnace starts up. I have to say though that I'm not ready to let go of the snow just yet. The wonderful thing is that I can always head to the mountains to get that last bit of winter. I think a garden party is in order. Maybe I'll find a sweet rabbit to have some tea with, as Vegas is certainly full of mad hatters. 💋

Whiskey Wednesday

I have been hearing about Michael's restaurant at the Southpoint for years, and I finally got the chance to go. Their excellent reviews are spot on and it is an amazing "old school" experience. The Southpoint is on Las Vegas Blvd about 10 minutes south of the main Strip. This place is a gem, with very limited seating, which makes the ambiance incredibly intimate and romantic. The service is impeccable and the food was divine.

They had extra touches throughout the dining experience such as the Crudité Platter. Fresh red roses throughout the restaurant, lemon sorbet in between a course to cleanse the palette, and a huge bowl of fresh fruit and chocolates at the end of our meal. It was pretty spectacular! The whiskey list was a bit limited, but they had one of my favorites, Buffalo Trace, and I enjoyed that with my meal. As you probably know from my other posts, I love shrimp cocktail and filet mignon, and I was anxious to try it here to compare to other local restaurants. Both dishes were delicious and paired nicely with my bourbon. Now I need to go back and try some of their other menu options! 😊

If you are celebrating a special occasion or just want to be wowed, I would highly recommend! 💋

International Women's Day

Throwback Thursday

I'm thinking I need to get back to basics with my skirts and blouses. This outfit always makes me think of my fantasies of being in politics and having liaisons in the hotel while on the campaign trail. Would you vote for me? I love to make my constitutes happy. What is your special interest? My first day in office would be to propose a bill that would ease restrictions on imported shoes, lingerie, and stockings. 💋

Whiskey Wednesday

First let me say "Thank You!!" to a dear friend for my heated mittens ❤️

Besides some wonderful skiing, one of the things I look forward to on my ski trips is trying local restaurants and especially if there's a distillery involved. Not far from where I was staying was the wonderful Eight Settlers Distillery. I couldn't say I've ever heard of their whiskey, but what a wonderful surprise.

Seating was upstairs and had a wonderful view of Salt Lake City below. It was the perfect ending to a great day on the mountain.Dinner was absolutely wonderful. I had the Bourbon Braised Pork Shank and the meat fell right off the bone. I ended the evening with some delicious Bread Pudding (one of my favorites).

"After researching the history of Cottonwood Heights, Katia and Radu Dugala became intrigued by the rich history surrounding the early settlement of the area that is now known as Cottonwood Heights. In the mid-1800’s, eight families settled an area known at the time as Butlerville, Utah, nestled between Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. Amidst the Rocky Mountains and lush green valley, the families cultivated the land that was rich in timber, water, farmland, minerals and granite rock. Butlerville became vital to the valley, and as it thrived, the area became known as ‘The Place’ to be. As the area flourished, the area known as Butlerville became Cottonwood Heights in 1952, the home of Eight Settlers.

The area’s beauty and rich history inspired the creation of Eight Settlers, along with the desire to create a brand reminiscent of the pride and determination of the original settlers. We are proud to offer a brand that exemplifies a modern take on this unique historical heritage."

 They had a new whiskey called Devil's Gate. Do you really think I wasn't going to try that? 😋  For me, the whiskey starts out fruity and light, but then finishes a little rough, but not harsh. It was a fun whiskey to try, but I can't say that it would make my regular list.  

Being a rather new bourbon whiskey, the reviews were a little hard to find, but here is one from Drinkhackers:

Eight Settlers Devil’s Gate Bourbon – The nose is rather delicate and almost floral, with citrus-forward sweetness followed by vanilla creme sandwich cookies and Halloween candy corns. These sweet notes almost mask the hint of cinnamon spice. The palate is a bit more crude, greeted initially with bite of grain alcohol followed by bitterness of raw cocoa powder and leather. Underneath are gentle notes of creamy caramel and wafer cookies, but the whiskey never seems to be able to get out fully from under all that grit. At a higher proof this may present itself as just pure burn, but is probably its best self at the current bottling proof of 90. This is a peculiar one; it presents pretty extreme points in the spectrum of bitter oak and sweet candy, yet is neither overly bitter nor too sweet. This could be one of those yin-yang moments where a precariously balanced harmony is unexpectedly achieved. The finish lands on neutral ground, with just pleasant traces of dusty oak, sweet vanilla, and toasted corn. Uncanny all around. 90 proof.

It's a new month and I think it's already going to start out crazy. The valley is getting ready for a storm and I can already feel the wind. I prefer making a little of my own drama of the stocking kind. Although, I don't mind that the mountains are supposed to get a massive amount of snow. These images are making me feel very film noir. Do you think I'm ready for my closeup?

Lioness, Minx, Wildcat, or Kitty...you never know which one you're going to get, but you always want to be gentle and kind because you never want the claws to come out, unless you're in to that kind of thing. 🤣
