Hi everyone,

A couple of people were interested in the script for the new Ms. Marvel issue, so here you go!

It's always funny to me how people are always so intrigued about the scripts.

My friends always ask me how it works, I guess, viewed from the outside, it must be such a strange world. 

I think I've been drawing comic books for so long I don't even think about it.

I guess you'll find out, that the scripts are pretty loose. 

In the same way, the artist leaves full control of the story to the writer, the writer trusts the artist's interpretation of the script.

So yeah, I hope you find this interesting!

Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #4 splash!

Hi everyone!

Here is the full process of pages 3-4 splash!

First time drawing a Sentinel for me, it was so cool!

I totally misread the script and sketched a totally wrong stretchy pose for Kamala, but the final result looks way better IMO.

For the bottom row of panels, I sketched over the same layer, so I don't have any rough sketches😅, sorry!

Carl Manvers, who? + Where am I?

Hi from Rome everyone!

I convinced my editors to let me have a week in the scheduled 6 months of work to get out of the house and see the world.
So yeah, I'm away from my PC and can't draw anything new so I wanted to share the line art of the cover for "CAPTAIN MARVEL: ASSAULT ON EDEN" #1.
I sketched it in Clip Studio with a Wacom 22HD and did the final line art on paper with a 0'5 mech pencil with 2H leads. Then I just upped the black levels on Photoshop once scanned and remove all the dirt.

Drawing this cover is when I found out about Carl Manvers (if you know you know).

Anyway, as I always try to do when I travel, I bought a comic book by local artists. It's a fun way to have a memory from the trip and open my artistic horizons, even thought most of the time they don't have it in English and I end up with comic books in foreign languages I can't read😅.

This time I bought "Fortezza Volante" by Lorenzo Palloni and Miguel Vila.
Luckily Italian is somewhat similar to Spanish so I can make out most of it so far.

Sorry for the long post! I'll be back next week and I'll draw something new for you guys.

Sketching sexy poses

So... about backgrounds

Hi everyone,

Alic asked a good question, I haven't thought about it in years.
I guess, once I understood it I just did it automatically but it might not be obvious to everyone.

For backgrounds in comic books, you really have to pick your battles and be smart about it.

Take this simple rule: on every page, you need at least ONE ESTABLISHMENT SHOT.

An establishment shot is a panel where people can understand where the characters are and where they are in relation to each other ( in space I mean, they are facing each other, they are close or far away, etc...) and, of course, that needs a background.

So the establishment panel should be your main concern in terms of background (also it doesn't need to be the first panel, it can be whichever you choose it to be).

Once you've done that, the rest of the panels on the page don't really need to have a full-on background.  A shadowy background works as well past this point.

Also, since I moved to digital I've been using Sketchup quite a bit. it saves time and if you do it right I think people don't mind the 3D.   But it's not the perfect solution, you still have to know how to draw a background before using 3D to save time.

I've attached a few pages from Secret Warps from back in the good old days of pencil and paper, I think they illustrate the point pretty well.

On other new, I'm starting FF18 today, so we just have to wait until february to see any of this...

Reworking someone else's work 😅

I promised Micah to give some thoughts on his "The Stellar SIR ORLEAN" comic book so here we are! (Upaind promotion, ... unless..... Micah.... ahem 😂)

I reworked a bit his cover, although it's pretty solid in terms of the main poses, but just a quick exercise on "how I would do it".

I found out I don't like to copy poses and I need to get rid of them once I know the basic idea. Otherwise I just don't do a good job if I see the reference.

Aaaand I need to work on my wolf guy heads xD  first time drawing it, ok!

Emma Frost process + News + Store

Hi everyone!

I'll spare you the "I'm so busy wah wah" because it's a good thing, having work and all.

But yeah, the new series is going pretty well and the first pages are... funny at the least, you'll see. I'm having a lot of fun with it so far and it can be an ongoing thing if everything works out (ongoing for me I mean, the series will go on regardless).

ON TOP OF THAT.. I'll be drawing the monthly covers (main covers, hell yeah!) for another series. Don't know if I can tell you what it is yet, they might want to announce it themselves...

I know, I know, so secretive! but yeah, NDAs are the word of the day. I wish I could tell you.

All that to say times will be even busier... 😓 which is good and bad... Starfield and Phantom Liberty are looking at me like "Come on, man, you know you want to play".

In other news, I've added a few things to the store in case anyone is interested in them, and if you want something in particular just let me know, and I'll add it in there ;)

Anyway, in the meantime, here is the process for this little Emma Forst in the new Ms. Marvel #2.

Only thing I can say is:

It might be a REGULAR thing, BUT we need to see how things go after a few issues.

No X-office though, so no X-Terminators 2!

I won't say anything else! I'll ask if there's going to be an announcement but I'm sure you'll find out before I realease it's public knowledge.

How I work

Hi everyone,

Ruairi asked me how long do I take to draw a page. 

And I thought to myself "it's complicated" so i wanted to share with you a full breakdown of I organize myself to draw a comic book issue.

For those who want the short answer and don't want to read that mess, here it is:

I do 0,67 pages per day...
