This one is an unusual project in that it is a music video followed by some kind of weird talk show.  If you didn't catch Gooseman's Very Wet Jamboree the premise is that Fernando’s social media expert has suggested they interact with and farm ideas from their fans since Fernando is too lazy to write himself.

It’s my first music video since I’m a Horse and my first Fernando and Gooseman music video since Cheap Meds in 2014. (I don’t count My Bone is Strong. I suppose there’s also Mammal Juice but that wasn’t a full song.) I enjoy making music videos because they are visually so varied. I hope this series idea works so I can make more.

Earthly Pleasures

I'm up to Fernando's rap section in the middle and I'm having fun with it.

The song is still woefully unfinished because I had a cold and it's only the last few days that my throat is in a condition to sing.   I think Gooseman's sections will require the maximum amount of singing ability that I possess, hopefully I can pull it off.  Fernando's sections will be easier, this track is 10bpm slower than the manwhore songs.

This one is not quite finished, Fernando is not sitting on the grass properly and the landscape feels bare, probably will add something in lower left corner.  Maybe some sheep.

Really enjoying painting a variety of natural scenes.

Aiming to finish this one before the end of the month.

Earth update

I feel it's going well, I'm enjoying painting some varied scenes and I've done a fair bit on the song and I think it will be a good one.  Haven't sung lyrics yet because I had a cold last week and I'm waiting for my throat to return to normal.

It feels like it's flowing nicely, I'm relieved because I hit a mental wall with Meth Orcs, it was going really slowly and I started stressing about it.  When I'm refreshed I'll return to it and dominate it later in the year.

The lyric suggestions I received were wonderful as well.  Goosemans section is first but there will be a Fernando section in the middle.

I'm dipping into the rotoscoped dancing well again but I plan to animate them on 4s (1 drawing held for 4 frames) rather than 2s so I can do more of them. 

Gooseman's Very Wet Jamboree

This is the first of the two videos I mentioned in my last post.  The next video will contain the finished song and music video.  I haven't tried this before... hope it works!

Shelf Orcs, Gooseman's Very Wet Jamboree

My hometown Brisbane was severely flooded last week, the water came within sight of my house.  We lost power for three days so my work week was obliterated

It's a small thing but I was really frustrated because I'd just started a new project and I was getting into it and had to stop on day 1.

I've started Gooseman's Very Wet Jamboree.  The idea involves two videos.  The first plays the first verse of a song, asking the audience to suggest the rest.  The second video will be a music video for said song and include the first part of yet another song, so each episode contains a music video and a song fragment which will become a new song.

My idea is for the two videos to be one patreon project together, and subsequent songs to not be patreon projects because they will heavily reuse the assets created for the first one.  I'd like to include the patreon credits in the second video, the one with the finished song.  

I'm not sure if I'm explaining it well, it's something I haven't tried before and it could very well faceplant!  I've made two crowd written songs recently though (Lovely Walrus & Mushrooms) and I feel confident I can take the idea further.

What about Meth Orcs!!??  I've animated probably about a third of it, I was starting to feel quite stressed about how long it was taking me and I got to a point where I feel I need to shelve it and try something new.  I've done way too much of it to not finish it, I will return to it with energy after I finish this new project.

Mushrooms song

I would like to share a new collab track.  It continues the theme of nature from Lovely Walrus.  I'm enjoying doing some smaller song projects that aren't attempting to be as comedic as usual.  I resisted making it about tripping as well.  I wanted to really feel a wet forest, you know?

I feel that this one would make a nice music video?  For a while I intended to make another live action short but I'm wondering if it might be worthy of a cartoon.  

Meth Toll

The title pun has nothing to do with the cartoon, I'm just stretching for meth puns (almost titled this post "unread methages" which is pathetic).

It's going to be a bit hard to share gifs of this project without spoiling plot points, the title gif happens right near the start so it's part of the premise I guess, when you describe a movie to someone I think it's ok to spoil the first five minutes in order to get them interested.  There will be spoilers in all future episode posts though.

Most gifs are unfinished, I want to go over where Fanny is grabbed by the wyvern's claw, it's still v1.  The background has a hill that just ends in a tree.

There's a lot of wyvern shots, so far I think it looks good from a distance.  Let's see if I can do as well with close up shots.

I'm not going to explain what's going on here, draw your own conclusions.

The shot I'm going to start today introduces what some people will consider the stars of the show...

CATBOIS

I was going to have the main guy be an archery catboy but the first catboy 2 eps ago was an archery catboy and I realised throwing knives are way easier.  Animating the catboy pulling an arrow out of the quiver, nocking and firing was brutal, I'll avoid that if I can.

Catboys don't fare well in this cartoon.

I think I'll probably run late on this one because there's a lot of action but I'm certain it will be a worthy ep in the series.  I hope February is treating you all well!

Lovely Walrus

This started as a collab song on discord, I thought i'd record some basic visuals, originally it was just me on the guitar over still pictures of walruses.  My girlfriend encouraged me to add footage from pexels.com and some wacky transitions, and every time I uploaded a snippet to discord I received further encouragement so I kept adding stuff.  First live action thing I've done in 8 years.  It was fun though and though I may not make any other videos like this one I'll start another song collab soon.  

Fernando's Amazing Podcast - Ultimate Roleplay

This is a probably one off roleplay episode of the FAP podcast (after 4 year hiatus).  I wanted to do it because out of the relatively few roleplay scenarios from the podcast (one of which is the source material for the latest cartoon), several of them were interesting and animation worthy.  (I'd really like to animate the one set in Tony's Misty Man Den where they milk a rich guy's nipples but I don't think I will because it's pretty raunchy and too large of a project.)  I doubt this one would make a good cartoon though.

This was a fun thing to revisit, I am unsure whether it is interesting or not so if you do listen to it and find it enjoyable let me know, thanks.  (I'm wondering if I should upload to my main channel or just put it on the second one.)

I thought the Surfshark instrumental was nice enough to include.  It has an old pop rock feel to it, I drew on my memories of the music I had to listen to on mainstream stations when carpooling to and from school.

This one definitely took me longer than I hoped, I think it was worth it.  The idea originally came from one of the podcast episodes.  In the roleplay Fernando was captured and taken to the chapter house where he won his freedom in an extremely X-rated fashion.  At one point I was going to animate Fernando's sex scene in this but I realised it wasn't necessary to the story to see it, and also animating sex scenes isn't really me when it comes down to it.

Next project: METH ORCS: CAT OUT OF LUCK

(Other title ideas I had were METH ORCS: REVENGE OF THE CATBOYS, and METH ORCS: INFLATES YOU BIG AND ROUND, I put it to a vote and Cat out of Luck won very convincingly.  Still, I'll change it if something better occurs.  And yes, there's going to be catboys.)

Snakey snake HISS!!!

I'm a bit sad about how long this is taking me, I wanted to have it out by now!  However I have started putting it all together and I like how it looks and feels so far.  

I have finished animating it (finally), now I am doing a second pass and finishing everything Ieft undone, trying music ideas out and adding sound effects.

I don't want to spoil plot points though so I will only post a few gifs.  I rotoscoped the hands in this shot, though it is only a 4 frame cycle.

I can also reveal that this cartoon contains ARTICHOKES, or at least refers to them many times.  

I might have broken my record for most layers in a shot in this one.

Also I have two side projects almost finished, a roleplay podcast episode and a primitive music video for a new collab song.  Will try to have them all out by end of January and start February fresh and clean.

Super Snake update

December has been a tough month to focus for me and now it's xmas time.  Project is still in little pieces and hasn't been compiled meaningfully yet, but it's around 75% animated.  Hoping for some nice quiet work time in early January so I can finish it middle of the month.

This is the establishment shot.  Took me a while to fill in all the detail.  Going for a run-down commercial district back alley at 3am vibe.

Nanders finally gets lucky in this cartoon.

Felt good to animate a scene in the Manwhore Industries building again.  First time since 2017 I think.

This is an older version of this shot, I forgot to give the guy in the van a snake hat.  

Should be an interesting xmas, here in Queensland we just opened our borders and we're about to get our first proper taste of covid.  I hope all of you have a nice xmas and holiday period!  Been an odd year hasn't it.

Next project......*drum roll*

Next project is Super Seductive Snake Showdown.

I know Meth Orcs went pretty hard with the snake ladies.  Well in this project there's a snake lady of a different kind.

Genevieve is an acolyte of the snake god Glycon.  This is an unfinished shot of her.  Her animation will get another pass and Ashtar won't be so prominent in the background.

Also I gave her some scars.  

A lot of the first scene concerns Fernando withdrawing $20 from an ATM/cashpoint.

As you can see, lots of coverage for the $20.

I'd like to finish this in December but let's be honest I probably won't, this one will be around 3:30 - 4 minutes.  Fair bit of action near the end.  So January some time.

I'm really happy with the reception to Meth Orcs, lots of people enjoyed it and youtube did its part by recommending it to new people for a change which I appreciate.  I've written another Meth Orcs and I'm really pumped to make it some time in the next year.  

Also I've been working on a one off roleplay audio, not sure if podcast is the right word but if any of you recall Fernando's Amazing Podcast from a few years ago it's a whole episode of just the roleplay.  Now that I think of it, the above cartoon comes from one of the roleplays in the podcast.  It turned out to be a great writing exercise so I thought I'd try it again.  This one I've just written is truly rancid though I doubt it could be adapted.  Will try to get that out soonish.

I have a patch on my guitar effects board called "Fripper" (maybe named after guitarist Robert Fripp?  I'm not sure).  I used it for I'm a Horse and all three Meth Orcs episodes.  I love an excuse to bust it out because it's fun to thrash the guitar with.

Thank you everyone for supporting me and this cartoon!  I feel I achieved what I was aiming for.  I've read fantasy since I was about 8 years old and the first time I tried a fantasy story with the original Great Destiny Man cartoons I didnt pull it off very well.  I think I'll get better with future attempts too. 

I have another Meth Orcs episode idea and an unrelated idea about a wizard foot fetishist, but I'll take a break from fantasy now and return to an urban setting.  Perhaps first half of next year I'll make another fantasy toon.

The next cartoon is Super Snake Seduction Showdown.  You might think oh more sexy snake ladies but you would be WRONG, there will not be any snake ladies.  The snake in the title is the snake god Glycon.

Home stretch

I'm working on the final few shots, it's almost finished.  Still some refining and peripheral things to do.  My goal was to finish by end of October but it will be early November.  But it won't be very late, just a little.

This one has been a real marathon. I rarely regret making the big ones, sometimes I do but I doubt I will regret this one, it feels like its working well.  Probably the only large cartoon I regret making is Pleasure Island Final Climax, mostly because of the negative reception it got and also that relatively few people have watched it.

Yaa!  I'm purple!

I'm starting my dancing gnome's last dance today and its a big one but it's the last large thing I haven't done yet.  

I hope everyone is gleaming and shimmering today!

Meth Acting

The title is a pun on method acting.  I have 99% of the lines for the cartoon now and i've long since run out of good meth puns.

The title gif and the following gif are inspired by the running shots in lord of the rings where they're cruising over mountains.  Trying to create an epic call to adventure feel.  Music will need to be good, I've done a v1 but it's not good yet.

I filmed my partner dancing and I'm on the rotoscoping wagon again.  This is more of a synthesis of rotoscoping and normal animation, i'm not tracing so much as using the footage for movement queues.  Proportions are quite different too, our gnome bard has a large head and feet.

I'm finally up to the scene with the snake ladies!  

I am feeling a bit bad about finishing this thing by the end of October.  I knew it was a big one when I started it but I'm also sick of not animating my better ideas because they're too large.  We'll see if I can do it.  Hope you're all having a nice day!

Falcon Hat scenes

If you've been my patron for a few years you might remember me posting about Falcon Hat.  It's an unfinished cartoon I started back in 2018 when I was full time storyboarding.  I roughed most of it out and realised it would probably be 8+ minutes when done.  It's set during a party at the Manwhore Industries building and there is supposed to be people in animal suits in every shot.  It was just too big so I put it aside.  Was talking about it on the discord today and I thought I'd export some of it to show.  I would still like to finish it, maybe I should after Meth Orcs.  I dunno...

Also!  I've finished my work assignment and I've turned down more work in order to finish Meth Orcs.  No more delays, time to do it.  Above is Fanny Ranger the interpretive dancing bard.

Quick post

Apologies for lack of updates, I have 2 weeks to go on a stint on the kids show I work on, then I'll work on Meth Orcs and then the next project for the rest of the year.  I initially agreed to 3 weeks but it became 6 because it is the last episode offered to me of the season so I thought do some work now, get it out of the way and set up a nice period of cartoon time.

I'm aiming for late October for Meth Orcs and then I'm leaning towards another Fernando project.  

I had to pause Meth Orcs right as I got to a fun part.  The celebrity bard gnome is an interpretive dancer, which will take time to do but should be fun.  She's going to leak sparkles.

Bad Vibes Video earlypost

This video is an encapsulation of my last few posts here, so if you've been reading them there will be few mysteries!

I like making videos like these but I seldom have much to talk about.  It's a clickbaity title, there are no bad vibes in the video.

This will be unlisted for another 10 hours or so but please share if you feel like it.

Mething around

I've mostly animated 2 of the 4 scenes.  I think I'll enjoy the third one I started this week the most, lots of dancing and forest backgrounds.  The title gif is Treshtog waking in a dream realm.

Treshtog's cousin Fishbob is a shaman, here he is talking to Treshtog while he sleeps.

They're in space because this is a memory.  I might swap the space bg for some barren mountains or something simple, since orcs have no business being in space.  You can probably guess what's in the bag.

Did I mention this cartoon has sexy snake ladies?  I may have.  There's a few different ways to combine humans and snakes, but I want these ladies to be snakes, not bipedal lizard creatures.

Orc tavern environment.  I'm always drawn to tavern scenes.

Treshtog pauses to say something dramatic as he leaves the orc tavern.  7 inbetweens in this motion, it took most of a day (mouth to come).

This guy is our antagonist Zurblag.  He's a shaman like Fishbob, but  more competent.

This is the biggest project I've attempted since the last Pleasure Island.  I'm aiming to finish it in late September.  I've also agreed to do 3 weeks only of work on the kids show.

This is the dancing gnome character, although I haven't animated her dance yet.  I don't think I've attempted a rotation like this before, works pretty well, requires a bazillion layers.  In frame left is Treshtog's friend, I don't have a name for him yet.

Prince of Vibes Deleted Scene

I took this out because it felt like an energy dip in the middle of the cartoon.  I've never deleted an entire scene from anything before, let alone left a sexy snake couple on the cutting room floor.

It actually did help their conversation make a bit more sense in the middle.  I still thought it was healthier without.  

I don't know if Prince of Vibes deserves a sequel but if I make one I'd like to explore some of the other races in the starseed universe.  Apparently the Draconians pictured here blew up the Lyrans home planet.

Thank you everyone for supporting another wonderful/terrible creation.  At the time of writing I am unsure whether people will like this one.  The only person I've shown is my partner and when it finished she gave me a very blank stare.  I think it's good so I know at least some others will like it.  

I'll decide tomorrow for certain but my next project will most likely be Meth Orcs: Dancing with Death.  Treshtog's cousin is going to be turned into a sexy snake lady by a powerful shaman.  Ordinarily Treshtog wouldn't care but his cousin owes him meth.
