I wasted a lot of time & energy trying to reach out and work with my ISP on almost daily basis & at times spending all my time just trying to contact them. Problem is, all the response I get are either a bot, being left in a middle of chat that takes days to get back in forth, and even their hotline are pretty much automated and doesn't have an agent I can talk to for my specific concern atm. Tried emails, calls, chat, or even post on their page and it didn't help with anything.
I think it was 4 or 5 days ago that I tried using my phone as my internet source/hotspot and it didn't help with the upload speed especially during busy hours & quite costly + very limited data allowance.
About 2 days ago, I finally got my new billing statement, although there is quite a bit of confusion since there are 2 plans listed now. Next month will tell me if it is truly downgraded, but for now I can say is it is possible considering what I was charged.
In conclusion, all my complaints didn't work, wasted most of my time reaching out to no avail which greatly affected my content schedule this month. It has been a stressful month and I finally gave in with their selling of extra data (I tried the cheapest option to see if it worked as I saw lots of complaints about it ) and it seems to work so once my data reset next month and it runs out, I'll just buy extra data. It would probably affect my claim, but nothing I can do about that(hopefully this does not mess up my internet plan since its still quite messy & really hard to reach out atm ), but I can't let it keep affecting me & my content for you (*^∀゚)ъ.

Just some updates for you of whats been going on with the patreon content.
Artbook Vol. 6 Update: While I think I finally learned my lesson of not giving a "fixed" or "sure" date of release (Recently been using "tentative"), I do think that Artbook Vol. 6 is coming along well(๑✧∀✧๑)! For now, I'll make the tentative release date to 3rd week (Tentative it may be, but I feel confident I can make it this time as I've been really trying my best to work on it).

I really like how the emoji turned out, maybe aside from Fei. I somewhat feel half regret doing it and yet also half satisfied making him a POG expression (ᗒᗨᗕ) . I guess the reason I chose him is because his name is asian enough just like how the original pogchamp is (๑˃́ꇴ˂̀๑)
Issue I'm currently facing: Now, regarding the issue... I would like to inform you that I've been experiencing this issue not only for the past few days, but also since last month. my ISP has changed my plan without my notice and my internet has been capped for a while due to data allowance limit so even accessing patreon page is very hard to load(it's about 4 am as of this post, so this will probably one of the few chances I can properly load the patreon). While I am paying the right amount for my usual plan amount(even stated on bill), my current service/plan I was changed to was the cheaper & very limited one, so I guess I am basically cheated right now. Getting in touch with their customer service has always been incredibly slow process & they often have sloppy response, so dealing with it takes a long time while also being stressful.
While I am not using internet to paint, it affects stuff like finding reference or downloading 3d model reference, being to respond more quickly, or accessing website such as patreon or even other social media at times, and 3D & game dev studies(Can't stream videos). It's also been difficult to focus recently due to having to deal with this. Fortunately, I can still somewhat upload sketches/work-in-progress as long as it's low resolution.
I am not planning to delay the artbook because of this issue, should I finish the artbook while I am still facing this internet issue, I'll try my best to deliver the artbook/patreon content by finding a workaround.
Fortunately, I was able to upload the emojis despite it taking quite a long time(Much better than having a disconnected upload).

Artbook Vol. 5 teaser Now, to get started on the update, I'll start with the art book teaser.
I screwed up, I was planning not to do these much artworks (was planning to atleast do the usual amount or do a bit better just like the artbooks prior to vol. 4) as I can still feel the burnout & headache from crunching for vol.4. Also, it is hard for me to control this snowballing effect wherein I set my expectations to myself to do better or at minimum, to be on par w/ the previous one. I am also worried with the expectation I set with vol. 4.
And adding to that, the event that is now happening around the world w/c causes stress& anxiety + hot weather here(still no AC atm, although I was planning to have one set this year so I can focus more on creating the content even on daytime<I am sensitive to sunlight, can't close down the curtain or it gets too hot> ).
While I can just divide this between vol. 5 & vol. 6, I think it's quite not fair as I am already excluding some. Just like for a example, I already have fire emblem artwork sketch that features 5 characters in 1 artwork, but it's too big for this one as plenty of artworks for vol. 5 already includes background.
I I guess my point is, I'm not here to complain, but ask for more time so I'll probably not be able to deliver on my previous set schedule, I'll just say I'll try my best before the month ends, so somewhere around 3rd or 4th week of march.
Emoji Content I am also simultaneously working on it along with the artbook. I was originally planning to upload a bulk of at around 9 emojis as launch, but I am considering to might as well set it up right now and slowly upload them. Then after I finish the 9, I'll follow the schedule.

Patreon Tier Changes:
There are some changes I would like to implement. I am to phase out a tier which is the "Copper Rank Protagonists". Before I get into the details, please don't worry current pledgers from that tier as you will not forcefully be removed & you will continue to receive the same reward w/ few tweaks(such as discord role's name change to "Legacy Protagonist").
The reason I am phasing it out as an option is to balance the value of patreon pledges and the pricing on the gumroad/cubebrush when buying from there after release to make it more fair.
There are occasions where I may end up creating more content than usual for an artbook so it's value would scale along with it. This will grant me the flexibility than having a fixed amount of content.
Note: Also protagonists from (PHASED OUT)Main Protagonist &(PHASED OUT) Copper Rank Protagonist, if you could kindly please move to Legacy Protagonists to help me organized it and for those who already pledge there that already qualifies for higher tier, please update your pledge to the qualifying tier. Patreon Upfront Charges Cancelled:
I've tried looking into implementing the charge upfront for those who might feel missing out, but after giving it some thoughts, I've decided to refrain from it unless there is really interest from the suppporters.
First, the problem I have to resolve is to work hard and make the distance of monthly charge and the release date of the artbooks closer. Currently, the artbook is delivered about 2 to 3 weeks (or even 4 weeks like vol.4) after the supporter's pledge gets charged (end of the month). It would be great if I can shorten it to 1st week or few days after being charged so I have lots of catch up to do.
Second, I am also worried about upcoming pledgers, I don't want to lock them to supporting me immediately and also give them time until the end of the month(monthly charge) if they ever want to change their mind whether they really want to or not, to support me 。^‿^。.

Also, just a heads up that big changes to the direction of game dev project coming soon(Not a negative, but I do believe it to be a positive change) which I will talk about in the future in more depth(But if you've seen my message in the discord, you've probably get the idea). Hello once again Protagonists! Here is the release date of the content.

Sorry about artbook vol. 4 taking so long. Plenty of artworks really took a lot of time to work on due to a different approach i took to improve the artwork. I am currently working on the last piece which is Edelgard vs. Lucina and I actually end up dropping the overpainted and even went as far as to remake the artwork itself from scratch.
For now, All I can say is thank you for waiting and I'll make it better in terms of content(at least when compared to the previous artbooks) and make it worth the wait.
For golden protagonists, the high resolution artwork time will also be including .PNG w/ transparent bg aside from white. As for the previous artbooks, I am looking into eventually update the content to add png transparency too. It will most likely increase the download file size, but I think it may be worth the trade off.
I'll be skipping draknier story game dev update this month, I really have my hands full with doing artworks alone. I'm actually even considering shifting the update from having unscheduled/random update (if that's fine with you). There are times I just spend most of my time doing studies or coding exercise which is really not something worth showing off.
JRPG emotes is also delayed due to I need more time to prepare & work on multiple artwork of jrpg emoji/emotes (not just one) for launch. Also, they are not pixel, but painted artwork ´・ᴗ・`

Hello Protagonists! I would like to ask a favor of asking for a few more days to work on the artbook vol. 4. There's just too many work in progress artwork as I did more artworks around this time & also did some rework of some artwork.
I am also working on the new additional content which is aboutjrpg chibi emotes for protagonist-only access (Iron Rank, Silver Rank, & Gold Rank Protagonists). While it might not be a simultaneous release w/ the artbook, I am hopefully pursuing to have it ready before February ends.
I promise to try my best so it won't disappoint you and make it worth the wait.

It's been a while since my last gamedev update. With this update, As I won't be able to provide substantial progress in terms of technicality (prototype progress) as I am mostly doing some programming (C#) studies to increase my arsenal when coding for the game, I'l instead be going near all out with showing my ideas covering what kind of battle mechanics I am planning to implement and other game features I will eventually add or want to add .

BATTLE MECHANICS/SYSTEM The type of battle mechanics I was going for before is just a simple turn-based. Now that I have moved to 3D, I am attempting the ideas that I do not dare when I was working on 2D due to its less flexibility and number of pixel art frames for each move.
Since this is my passion jrpg-inspired project, I might as well integrate things I find fun base from the games I've played & add a spin to it.
The type of combat system I'm going for as its core is still a turn-based, but with added engagement & flavor on top of it which is having a rhythm-based element.
Basic/Normal Attack Command First, you generate TP (Technique Points) through normal/basic attack. During the early development of Draknier Story, I am planning to just use a single normal attack(placeholder) which will be later expanded to different types of attack sequence wherein each type of attack has it pros & cons (such as some move deal more damage, while other generate more TP) . As you level up & progress, you gain more variety of moves. The attack sequence I am describing is similar to Xenogears.
And in some sense, is also quite similar to Legend of Legaia.
Another reason I wanted to approach combo moves is to use it as an excuse so I can do more 3d animation attack sequence (ᗒᗨᗕ). Despite the work & time it can take, I fortunately have the leisure to do so as I don't have to worry about publisher.
plus-- would you look at that, fist type/martial art attacks looks best & juicy when doing string of attack instead of single hit attack (º﹃º)
I'm still considering if the basic attack command will inherit a rhythm-style like the Chain Arts/Combo Command below, but at this point, not within the plans.
Chain Arts/Combo Command Once you've generated enough TP, you will be able to execute this command. This is where the rhythm plays in. The reason I wanted to implement it is I have some fondness of rhythm or button press timing. Also the same with some fighting/brawling games. I also do think that it helps w/ the repetitive nature of turn based as you get rewarded for executing it well & keeps you engage(At least for me). Legend of Dragoon's Addition System shows this:
There are times when I feel like I don't want to encounter an enemy for a while, but this rhythm mini-game keeps me looking forward to it. I am still considering if I will utilize different combination of button inputs (Spikes the difficulty of executing) or just stick to one button. It will need some real testing first.
I know that not every jrpg fans are into this considering that I am building the game features around my preference/taste, but to mitigate this, I am also considering to either add 'Auto', or have an accessory that you can equip in easy mode to execute the command automatically. The 'auto' will be implemented later in the development when the default/manual mode's foundation is well established.
Now, regarding the balance of it, 'Manual/Default' will give you a high risk high reward. e.g. 1st hit = 80% dmg, 2nd hit = 90% dmg, 3rd hit = 100% dmg, 4th hit = 110%, and 5th hit = 120% dmg. (Note: Damage scaling is not final).
While using 'auto' will give you a flat 100% damage.
A modern similar jrpg example of this rhythm element would be Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Divine Arts / Magic Command I haven't got too deep into this yet so the concept/idea is still quite premature. This command may also utilize TP which is used for Chain Arts or have its own AP(Ability Points/Power) bar.
Some Divine Arts will have rhythm, but a more simple one. The rhythm will start during the start-up casting of the Divine Art. Perhaps something similar to Super Kirby Clash( Might possibly have variety of forms such as horizontal line, vertical lines, or cross).
Divine Art will focus more on self-buff/sustain, damage dealing, and enemy debuff.
Transformation
Items Command This command will contain mostly recovery items. I am considering to either have each unit have separate inventory or a centralized one.
Suikoden 2 features a separate inventory for each character.
While Fire Emblem & Final Fantasy tactics are strategy/tactical jrpgs, I think they are good examples.
Here's a one big inventory(screenshot Tales of Abyss), which is what is normally used for most jrpgs.
Perhaps I'm leaning more on the latter since it means less complexity & management then I'll just find a way to balance it.
Perhaps making the item recovery more expensive(◣∀◢)ψ. In most jrpgs, battle items can easily become OP as they can be very versatile, cost efficient, & powerful.
I want to focus more on basic attack, chain arts, & divine arts as the offensive while Items leaning more on recovery & utility.
OTHER GAME FEATURES There is actually a major feature I forgot to mention from the last update. It would be the "romance" part. While the game will not really revolve about 'romance' as a topic, there will be some elements or subtleness to it.
Bonds of Fate There will be a bond progression. I am planning to adapt a similar approach to Persona's Social Links, Xenoblade's heart-to-heart, Fire Emblem's Support, and similar feature found in other jrpgs, I do think that at it's core, its implementation are nearly the same & may only differ slightly on how to generate affinity.
My reason behind this is since this is a jrpg-inspired(making it a long game) which could make you feel invested to certain characters.. eventually, you will have a preferred girl (best girl or waifu), I don't want to force anyone for being locked, fortunately, the current story I am going with allows me this leisure. One of the great example I can think of is, from what I know, some Dragon Quest game allows you to choose your waifu(*^∀゚)ъ .
As for how to generate affinity, I am still looking into it.
DROPPED & ON-HOLD FEATURES • Early advance concept of combat is a simple turn based, but with variety of attack type & armor type. Attack type includes pierce, blunt, slash. Armor type is light, medium, heavy. I had to drop it as its gets more complex & it was a concept for when I was still working on 2D and have to consider limiting the 2d pixel sprite animations.
• A support recruitable/tag team. It's a support unit that can be paired with your main party member where they have their own perks. Most of them will do follow-up attack & others w/ buff or debuff.
My purpose for this is it will allow me to add more content in the game from time to time and also to make it as a gateway to look more into the world & lore as you recruit more units. Similar to recruiting in Suikoden, but instead of a main party member, they are support/assist unit. Another great example is xenoblade chronicles 2 w/ their blades.
Even if the game is completed or a work in progress, I can add this as additional content to pump more life into the game. I guess a good scenario example would be, imagine a xenoblade chronicles 2 constantly getting new blades from time to time, or those gacha games.
This idea is on-hold as its pretty much an additional content & won't be vital for the narrative. But I also honestly think that it would be great for temporary party members(if there are in the story) and story characters that can become your ally (Jokingly, it means more waifu option outside the main party members (◣∀◢)ψ).
• Elemental Attributes, I was already planning it to be dropped, but I'll put it on-hold since if the support units/tag team got implemented, it will benefit a lot from this feature to add more diversity.
• Mini-games. I would love to add mini-games, but that would the very last part or somewher ein the middle. They could either be during story gameplay or just a side thing to do. I find this essential as I won't be able to release the game in one go, so having these while the next chapter is not yet released. It's also a nice break when I feel burntout from coding the main game so instead of feeling tempted to work on a new project, I might as well integrate them in the game.
• A dimensional fairy-like village that you can develop. It can be an area that I can develop to connect or serve as lobby for end-game content such as extra special boss, side quests, mini-games, etc.). This idea is on-hold as this is an extra content like the mini-game(Although as I developer, I think this is one of the very fun things to work on).
A lovely example would be breath of fire series (Also digimon world's main city).
• Monster/Pet raising. Is on-hold & probably the very last on my priority. This will work well if I implement the 'support/assist unit/tag team'. I really love this part in Legend of Mana and it left a very strong & long lasting impression to me. Working on this feature will seem to be very fun (^v^).
------------------- So I guess i've pretty much shared most of the game play ideas. I better stop now as It's already becoming more than just a jrpg and more of a culmination of what i really really love & features I was planning to my old projects (ᗒᗨᗕ). I know that with these massive ideas, it is pretty ambitious, but I plan to dedicate & work on this project for a very long time (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و. I want to support this game as long as I can 。^‿^。.And instead of glittering promise of words, it is better that I show you progress & results (ง `ω´)۶.
The updates for the coming months will mostly be not about ideas anymore, but art of the game, technical progress, or perhaps even both.
Hello Protagonists! I am considering revising the patreon goals again along with a new content that is fun & add mores value to the pledges.
As for the twitch/stream, I am not planning to drop it entirely, but take it more as a casual approach to it as there will be times that I feel like I will stream more than what is stated in the current twitch goal.
While I am working on my jrpg fanart artbook & my game dev project, I am planning to add monthly JRPG Chibis. But unlike w/ artbooks which you receive the artbook volume corresponding to the month, This will be more of an exclusive access. What I mean by this is you will get access to all the JRPG Chibis that I will make along with the benefit of it getting updated and expanded as I add more Chibis every month.
The new patreon goals I am planning to roll-out would be related to jrpg chibis:
• When reaching 100$ goal - 1 new JRPG Chibi added per month • When reaching 200$ goal - 2 new JRPG Chibis added per month • When reaching 300$ goal - 3 new JRPG Chibis added per month • When reaching 400$ goal - 4 new JRPG Chibis added per month
If we reach more than 1 chibi per month goal, some of the chibi will be decided by the protagonists/patreon supporters through a poll.
I do think that while it will add more workload to the current stuff that I do, it won't be detrimental to the current projects. And the higher the goal I reach, the less I need to do external/side work.
The updates that the JRPG Chibis could possibly receive are tweak to the artwork for improvement, color adjustment, or something else.
One of the biggest challenge of adding this new content is allocating the tier rewards. The current idea would be:

If one is no longer a protagonists a supporter, the terms for the usage of chibi can no longer be used publicly, end of artwork updates, and no longer have access to new chibis.
The motive behind this is to give more to my current supporters/protagonists, not to cut-out more content from the current projects. So think of this as an extra bonus content I am adding on top of the jrpg fanart artbook & jrpg game dev project for the protagonists/ patreon supporters only 。^‿^。
The launch chibis will be from the artwork above which is Pyra, Nia, Mythra, Nina, Katt, Lyn, Bernadetta, Edelgard, & Gofelem(ᗒᗨᗕ). The current artwork is still a work-in-progress so it is not the final look yet. Lyn, Bernadetta, and Pyra will receive an artwork overhaul/update to make it as whole body.

Hello Protagonists & everyone else! I just want to formally announce that I am expanding to doing also livestream on twitch. These livestream will be about the artworks I make including some of the artworks I make for the artbook.
One of the main reason that made decide to expand is there is a feeling of something lacking.. the sort of central lobby or event of where I am actively creating content for you to see & also being able to interact with you. Yes, there is a discord too, but I think livestream also delivers a different kind of fun experience & connection.
And while I will most be doing artwork creation content, I will also expand later on into other things such as playing jrpgs like xenoblade, fire emblem, and other classic jrpgs or discovering fun things or watching game reveal/announcement together. However, I need to factor my bad internet for game reveal/announcement as I can only stream at certain time. Internet has been a major issue to me, I just hope availability of better internet connection will come soon in my area.
Also, I am planning to expand in the livestream in the future to showing how I am making my jrpg-inspired project (Draknier Story) which includes, programming, 3D asset creation, debugging, my sufferings of trying to make things work, & many more.

I just recently released my 3rd artbook and there's something I have been meaning to consult to everyone especially the protagonists helping make these artbook possible t.
When it comes to the artwork I am creating, I have been in a dilemma because there are jrpg characters I want to draw again & I am also concern about the ones who have been supporting me and those who will support me in the future.
I underestimated the JRPG genre, while it is niche, almost each game itself have its own passionate and dedicated community and quite expansive. I have been making fanart base on different jrpgs which range from classics to modern one and each game has a rich cast of characters and some even have dozens and can be even hundreds if we include series. The problem arises is when I get a supporter who will support me for that certain jrpg & it not appearing anymore in the future artbook.
This is also where I get into a dilemma of choosing between drawing a new character I haven't drawn for the sake of diversity or that certain character I want to draw again(but already drew in previous artbooks).
At this rate, I don't know if when will I be able to draw these characters again if I keep going with the diversity(some few characters from the list): Pyra (Xenoblade Chronicles 2) Mythra (Xenoblade Chronicles 2) Nia(Xenoblade Chronicles 2) Nina (Breath of Fire) Tiki(Fire Emblem: Awakening)
I've been thinking that I should narrow down the list of characters I am going to draw/paint to my top favorites for each jrpg. And to give emphasis on which jrpg should I focus while also drawing some others occasionally.
A modern jrpg example would be: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - I'd rather draw 10 artworks of (Nia/Mythra/Pyra) over 1 common blade. Also will rather draw Nia/Mythra/Pyra again over other side blade (There is of course some exception as I really like some of the other blades)
Fire Emblem Three Houses/Awakening/etc. - I rather draw Edelgard/Marianne/Bernadetta/etc. 10x over Linhardt
Another classic jrpg example would be: Legend of Dragoon - I rather draw Rose 10x over Hacht & Kongol.
Breath of Fire 2 - I'd draw Katt/Nina 10x over 1 Bow.
(Don't get me wrong, I like these characters that I compare to, but I would happily enjoy drawing my top favorite characters over & over again + top favorites are always a bias(๑˃́ꇴ˂̀๑) )
These will also help me with making those who support me & follow my content have a clearer picture of what can be expected from the artworks I will create & not an RNG/Random lootbox-like artbook. (If you are familiar with smash brothers ultimate, the game itself is actually quite similiar, in my opinion, to a fanart artbook, but as a fighting game and the characters available there has a very broad range of genre & it came to the point that not everyone can be happy/content with new character releases due to its diversity and is something i prefer not to be in a state in).
While I will still be doing other jrpgs, here is the list of jrpg series I want to focus on. • Xeno series (particularly the xenoblade series) • Fire Emblem series (particularly Awakening, Fates, Three Houses, Blazing Blade, etc.) •Breath of Fire Series
And my top favorite characters from these games such as Pyra, Mythra, Nia, Lucina, Tiki, Azura, Lyn, Nina, Katt, and so on. Even these little number of characters has many potential as I can draw them in many & different ways of portrayal.
Then the last on the list would be assorted jrpgs which I guess can be treated as a bonus artwork content for the artbook. Such example of these jrpgs are Persona, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Zelda(although more of an arpg), Suikoden, Tales of Series, Shin Megami Tensei, Trails Series, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Vanguard Bandits, Brigandine, , Valkyrie Profile, Bravely Series, Wild Arms, Thousand Arms, & many many more. I will draw my top favorite characters from these games. And the list will only continues to grow as I discover more games & new game releases.
In summary or few words, I want to prioritize drawing my top favorite characters over again & again instead of trying to put too much diversity.
I guess having a commission artwork(which is outside of the artbook/personal artwork) could be an option If others want me to draw/paint their favorite character for that certain game(Still considering if I'll open a big list or a small short one, but that would be for another topic in the future).
Perhaps I may or may not already have the answer on what I will do, but I want to know your opinion(๑ÒωÓ๑).

Hello my protagonists! I just wanted to let you know that the artbook is going well & I am excited to release it soon (on or before January 14, 2020) so here's a sneak peek of some artwork(sketch) that will be included(+there will be more).
Using 3D models really helps me a lot as it fills the gap (missing details) that I can't see in 2d art. Despite some inconsistencies between the 2d concept art & 3d models, it also gives me a deeper understanding of how it translates and what might be the factors for its change.
When it comes to older games, it can get difficult at time due to having a hard time finding a full body reference especially on non popular characters.
As for the poll, please vote to let me know which one you would like to see painted from the sketches in vol.2 for the upcoming vol.3. I am also considering including the Edelgard sketch from vol.1 (poll) to be painted for vol.3 as it is the 2nd highest voted or I might consider making a new Edelgard artwork instead.

Here is the development diary for November! I'll immediately start with introducing another character, and new character artworks.
There were plenty of changes in the story so my previous dev diary that covered those introduction may become less reliable or obsolete.
With regards to character names, I took inspiration from "Nobiliary Particle" and add a spin to it(Examples such as vahn, neuv, kreuv, nohr, vohn, etc.). It will be use to indicate nobility(e.g. <name> vohn <surname>). I'm still uncertain if I will make distinction between level of nobility, but this is what I have for now.
I am also omitting the "silent protagonist" I said before as it does quite limit me with the current scale of the narrative & storytelling.
Also, despite the possible changes that may or may not come in the future. There could be quite a bit of spoiler below(or maybe not really a spoiler as its pretty much introductory, most of these will probably be covered pretty much early in 1st episode/chapter), but nothing that is of major reveal.
New Character Artworks & New Character Introduction
Mihr - The Main Protagonist. Same cloth design as previous one, but had to change his looks. I feel like this one matches his character the best (actually had to spent a lot of time revising his hair). Was brought to a small rural village with dojo few years ago and without memories, ability to speak, basic knowledge, nor even walk properly. He loves to read a certain story book. Fights using martial art, focuses more on using his arm and with heavy blows. Free-spirited and doesn't really talk that much.
Ayaciel - Met Mihr when he was brought to the dojo and while she was still an apprentice. She is the one who taught Mihr the basic knowledge (to speak, to read, etc.). Currently a master at the dojo along with Mihr. Specializes in agile movement, while she uses both her arms and legs, she uses leg attacks a bit more. Passionate while having the tendency to be blunt.
Her prior cloth design was quite too simple so I had to revise it. While working on the revision, i took notice with the familiarity of an old artwork from 2012 so I took some elements from it and added to the current one.
Wina (Wilhelmina vohn Nemhain) - The same character as "Nem Adrest" but with some changes to both her character design and some part to her narrative & motive. Had to change her name to reflect this changes, make it more meaningful, and sound distinct from the others. Although her family name "Nemhain" is also a part tribute to her prior name . She is called "Wina" by people close to her. She is currently a high ranking officer in Dragnia Imperial Army and an adopted daughter of the Nemhain family head. Serious and compassionate.
I can't really speak much detail about her as the time when she shows up reveals quite a lot of major story element.
Project Vision
I am really fortunate to be able to work on this jrpg project as I have supporters & people who take interest. This project is pretty much non-traditional when it comes to game development where most games takes years to develop before it releases. I want to approach this game as episodic (atleast, while the game is not yet complete). Somewhat similar to other Mediums (Manga/Anime) or just like splitting Xenoblade Chronicles 2's chapters. This will allow me to divide the workload more efficiently and be able to put more work in the narrative of each episode and share it sooner.
I'm also looking into being able to skip to later episodes (e.g. episode 3) with level, stat, item preset (rather than going back to level 1). Otherwise, the default carry over of your save data from previous episode/chapter (doesn't need to do manually, as it is the default way of progression)
Battle Mechanics & Progression System
While I was originally planning not to innovate too much, there are things I want to try implementing(Although the battle gameplay is probably the last one i plan to work on and spend a lot of time on balancing, implementing, etc.).
- There are cases in some jrpgs where there are boss you can defeat, but right after you defeat them, they totally destroy you in a cutscene or something. It might not be immersion breaking for others(at least not much for me), but to some, it will. I have some rough game design ideas to work on this .
- Characters getting nerfed when joining your party & forced party battle against 1 boss. This quite happens in the jrpgs I've played. While I will be doing the traditional battle system and progression for now, after that in the future, I'm looking into working on a different type of progression if possible. As for the party battle against 1 boss, with how I am approaching this with the focus on narrative, I'll probably avoid it as much as I can. If there are 1v1 battles due to story, then it will be 1v1.
- Simplifying Stats. I really want to simplify the character stats. While in the past, I find having multiple stats to be interesting, I want to make it more simple for Draknier Story while still having depth.
- With regards to DEF, I am looking into probably replacing it with something else such as block rate or something. I am also looking into omitting MAGIC, or perhaps replace it with elemental affinity, or have the MAGIC be the same stat as ATTACK, but make it more powerful while requiring more turns to cast (I will look into it more once I start working on the battle system). (Breath of Fire IV reference - i love how simple it looks)
- I also want to make every playable character to be versatile as much as possible instead of focusing on 1 role. Meaning, you have more control to build the character the way you want to some extent (This is tied to the new progression I mentioned before). This will allow you to use characters in the party base on your preference/love of character instead of stat advantages.
- As for the strategy element, there will be enemies that have behavior pattern. This will make it less RNG/random as long as you know your current enemy's behavior although some behavior will emphasize on RNG(e.g. maybe something like a crazy/loose screw behavior for certain monster type or something). The more you defeat a certain type of enemy, the more details you unlock about them & when you use observe on them during combat (hp, attack, behavior, description[if there is a bestiary, will probably add the description there]).
- Focus on damage dealing. High-risk high-reward. This is currently my design focus, To make the battle hopefully more fast paced. Enemies will also deal high damage to you, putting your party members at risk if you don't put more thought in the strategy and just go all out attacking.
Both the 'behavior pattern' & 'risk due to high damage output' will make plenty of situation of less repetitive, and more of a threat (Atleast, in the default/normal difficulty). I'm working on making it less feel as a chore and more meaningful as much as possible.
- Some extra stuff i'm looking into is having a bit of customization with the battles such as allowing you to change battle music(at least against normal mobs) and which is obtainable as hidden bonus item/treasure or something. I mean, there are cases in some of the game , especially those with very frequent random encounters, that the battle music theme you love might become traumatizing for you or the nature of repetitiveness will make you hate it. While it will give a signature flavor to the game, it is something I want to consider, and again, it is something i will look into it later on, it is still far off in the pipeline.
The Scale of Story
The main part of the story is pretty much complete by now. There are many topics I would love to explore and include it in the narrative. Some of these are religion, ideals, science, prejudice/discrimination, regrets, lessons, and many more.
If I were to count if how many parts the story is, there are around 2 or 3 major parts(2nd and 3rd can be combined as 3rd is more shorter) although the 1st part can be self-contained and have a somewhat a mix of open-ended & conclusion. The 2nd and 3rd part are pretty much dependent on their prequels as they are direct sequels. If we are looking into historical arc, there are probably another around 2 or 3 stand-alone parts (not as big as the major one, but can be expanded upon on).
For now, my current scope of focus when it comes to story is just the 1st part and maybe a bit of 2nd part.
(Lots of elements of the narrative and design are actually borrowed & inspired from the other core stories I've made (3 stories base from the old/concept projects).
(These major part will be divided into multiple episodes/chapters and these episodes/chapters will be in the same game build)
Music Prototype
Although music is far in the pipeline. I thought I could share some progress while I am still learning the very basics of music despite how embarrassed I might feel. Music is very important in my project and there are situation where I want to make tracks matching the cutscene, scenario, or story instead of an independent track.
I was thinking of dojo or certain place in the dojo for this short loop track. (Also apologies to some musician for my beginner skills (ᗒᗨᗕ))
I had another track (something like an optimistic/positive situation after a battle or the party talks and decide on something), but I think i'm not mentally prepared to share it yet(≧∀≦) , had to do some more tweak to it. I am uncertain if you are interested in seeing my progress to music and if should I continue sharing music stuff like this? Or maybe just focus on sharing stuff like art and technical updates.

Time for the dev diary update! This dev diary may contain technical terms related to Unity Engine or programming so I apologize in advance. There will also be Dev Diary update #05 on November 30, 2019 wherein there will be art, narrative concept, project vision, and etc. Also apologies again as this post might be heavy to load due to many gifs (º[]º;)
So now let's get started(ฅ`ω´ฅ). I've been pretty much studying the very basic of using unity and getting used to it. With so much resources available for any question I may have, it really is convenient. As I am learning while building the game, I have 1 main project build while the other project builds is where I do my experiment/study before integrating them in the main build.
With this one, I am using a simple movement.
Here, I am trying to understand unity's prefab more (prefab - sort of a container, template, or node) . So I instantiate/spawn the cubes with mouse clicks. I just seem to enjoy screwing around when testing something(ᗒᗨᗕ) I also added Rigidbody which makes it feels like it has weight, collide, and bounces.
This time , I made another object, which is capsule shape. My my, not that I will be using physics for the jrpg project, but testing this was really fun (ᗒᗨᗕ)
This time, i added a jump. More like an unrestricted jump count (think of kirby, but more jumps). And yes, shoving those capsule away feels great (≧∀≦)
Now time for rapid shooting \(≧∇≦)/
This one is a test for hit/collision detection. This will be interesting to use if there are puzzle or mini-event like scenario in the game just like in Breath of Fire III, Wild Arms, or Zelda: Majora's Mask. Or maybe in villages or towns that have festivals. Basic function, but powerful and has many uses.
And that's all for the experimantal build, now we go to the main jrpg project build and where I applied what I both tested & learned. Not everything is tested on the experimental build so I did try to figure out & implement some new things in this build.
Now we got a moving and rotating character placeholder (Not using rigidbody w/ this one).
This time, I am testing to move on slope. Also implemented a temporary camera function that follows the player. This actually had me thinking, if I am going to use a bit of birds eye mode, fixed camera, a 3rd person camera, or a mix of them depending on the scene.
Poof, there is now gravity, although the problem here is, it is bouncy when going down the slope. I will have to rework this later on after I learn more about raycast in unity. I was actually planning to not try the slopes as I was considering this as a world map with flat ground, but can't help and feel tempted on trying to implementing it (;´∀`).
Here's a trigger event region. This is probably the one I will be utilizing the most such as for moving between world map and area map, doors, trigger cutscenes, and many more(๑✧∀✧๑).
There are also some behind-the-scenes I have been doing such as I finally cleared plenty of confusion I had prior regarding classes and construct and the basic application of it in Unity after studying it. There are more topic I would like to learn them and how to properly utilize them. Such as inheritance, polymorphism, attributes, and etc. as I feel like it will benefit me a lot when I implement more complex stuff, and may help me avoid from making my code too spaghetti (very confusing, similar to spaghetti or messy cable arrangement).
And lastly, here's an overall preview of the experiment build with a bunch of stuff if you might be interested to see.

--- Hello again everyone, I want to share with you the schedule of the updates for the coming days/weeks and somethings I want to talk about.
As you might have notice, I put the artbook release date on Dec.7. I want to make this as the regular schedule. The 1st week of next month for the artbook release while the JRPG dev diary monthly update be on the 4th week of the month. This will allow me some leisure to prepare the updates. Also, the last day of the month will be the charge cycle.
So it goes like this: 4th week (Draknier Story - Dev Diary Update) -> Last day of the month (charge cycle) -> 1st week of the next month (Artbook Volume Release). --
Also, for those who doubled their pledge to support (due to me not charging on the month of september as I was preparing for the transition of art pack to artbook, some very supportive protagonists insists to continue support for september, thank you very much(*≧∀≦*)!) Please update your pledge to your regular amount before the end of the month since I already earn it during the october charge cycle and so you won't get overcharge. I'll notify you again directly a day before the monthly charge occurs if you haven't change it yet or in case you forgot ٩(^ᴗ^)۶. --
I am not sure yet or when, but I may put a poll to ask if how much frequency of patreon post updates are you comfortable with (not too much like a spam). I am considering if I should write something like an analysis about the jrpg game I am currently playing(Love jRPGs♥, more fanart materials for us), and my viewpoint both from a game developer and as a jrpg fan. Sometimes I just find some things interested in the game(I'll most likely try to avoid heavy spoilers, or if there are some any hint of spoiler, i'll put a spoiler alert/warning). --

Initially, I was actually expecting to have less pages (Considering that I can barely manage about 3 fanart art packs per month before) so I actually doing more & I am happy how it turned out! Now that volume 1 released, I pretty much have the foundation set for the upcoming art books.

Hello again everyone! The artbook I am working on is turning out well(。^‿^。). I am having fun working on it more than the art packs. It allows me not to worry much about taking my time in some artworks.
Working on this artbook, there were other technical stuff I had to consider, such as bleed, layout, papersize, and such. Although I am not doing any physical printing yet, it is something I had to consider in the future when I have the necessity and my supporters wanting a physical one.
I'm just happy being able to draw more than 3-5 artworks per month(the amount of when I was still working on art packs) and in variety of ways. I just feel more flexible and less restricted.
Also, here's a preview at the credit page of the artbook for my protagonists (^▽^) (the post's photo above)I might update this artbook after release when I finish the new art for gold rank protagonists
And oh, also a few days ago, I had a blackout, and lose a few hours of progress while working on the cover art(auto recovery only give me a black single layer, but fortunately, I have a back up), and in the end, after working on it again, it turn out better than what I had lost(ᗒᗨᗕ)
Lastly, I worry that I may have set a high expectation, but I can't do many many pages since it will be a monthly artbook & I also have to factor the work on my jrpg project, but I promise to make it worthwhile and have interesting content! And it is at the least, more artworks compared to my monthly art packs before (≧▽≦).
