From the entire Carnal Instinct Team, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We made it, the final update of 2021. What a wild ride this year has been, with mountains more content and systems in-game than we envisioned at the start. The project has progressed so far and we're pushing forward faster than ever.

You can now stride over the sands with the likeness of Anubis as this update brings with it the first non-human male form to the game; the Jackal.

For those who don't want to replay all quests to access the most recent content we've also added an "extras" menu. Not only can you skip to the latest quest (Law & Order), but this will also unlock most races. It's also possible to kill the player (to respawn if stuck out of bounds etc).


We've updated our roadmap to remove confusion. Despite the roadmap having always stated that it's a live document and features may expand or shift as development progresses, we felt that having features tied to specific months created too much expectation and limited our ability to work flexibly (one of the few strengths of a small team).

For this reason we have removed the dates and shifted to a new set of categories:

  • Completed Content
  • In-Development
  • Planned Content

Within the "In-Development" section we further break this down into what elements are approaching implementation (GREEN), in the midst of development but not ready for release (YELLOW), and those which are only in the prototype stage (RED). 


We ask that you continue to judge the pace of development based on our delivery each month, rather than a spreadsheet, but we like to have the document available to give a slice of what we have planned. The roadmap itself will be updated in the new year to take account of the species and other recent polls, bringing some species and sex scenes nearer to implementation.


Thank you so much for making this entire beautiful dream possible, we're forever grateful for the overwhelming support shown to us by this community. We're excited for everything planned in 2022 and for making so many of your requests a reality, watch this space!

Hi all,

We find ourselves here, a hair's breadth before Christmas, with the penultimate update of the year. It's a more substantial update than usual, with a plethora of new content. Nothing is explicitly seasonal, though we've clearly decided to deliver these elements now due to the logical connection with all things chilly.



Firstly we've added the Minoan race to the game. Currently you'll meet only one, though there will soon be many more as members of the influential Merchant's Guild. This is the first interaction you'll have with the secretive group, but it won't be the last...



Bringing home the seasonal theme this December is our new Extreme Exotic NPC, the Ancient Dragon. She has only now awoken from her ancient rest, this update marks the start of her interest in what has become of Sabu. For now you can enjoy her feminine side, though there will be more scenes with her in the near future. This is only the beginning of her story and of uncovering other beings lost beneath the dunes.



The Frost-Forged weapons are also now available to craft as well. For now they don't have status effects, though we will add these once we reach the next milestone with the combat and inventory systems.

A veritable blizzard of minor changes have arrived as well, including new SFX, tonnes of voice acting, improvements to monsters, and more. Check out the full patch notes below.


We want to thank each and every patron for your incredible support. Without you we wouldn't have been able to reach this pace of development. We've come so far in the last year and we're really looking forward to getting our teeth into the main story.

"Look's like meat's back on the menu boys!"

Hi all,

They're finally back - hybrids (demi-ascended/demi-human to give them the correct title) have returned to Sabu! There's also now a new Demi-Jackal to play with, so if you want to combine the sleek, pointed featured of a jackal with the supple skin of a human then you're in luck. The hybrids currently have clipping issues with the Anubite Bra, though this will be resolved next update and they should work out-of-the-box with all future clothing and cosmetic options. For now the demi-races all take their skins from the parent race, though there is a UI change planned to allow direct customisation soon.



We also now have the rig ready for the dual-cocked Jackal Priestess, she's shown here with the default equine genitals and Anubite gear rather than her own costume and... "equipment" as they're both still in-development.



We have quite a few ambient effects now present in the world too, with insects near flowers and dust-clouds along dry roadways. These are enabled by default but can be disabled in the menu to improve performance. Some, such as the leaves, are placeholder but still add a little more life to the world.


There's not much more of what we're working on that we can show at the moment without ruining the specifics of next month...


Those of you who check the roadmap will probably have worked out where a lot of our time is going; The Ancient Dragon. She's scaly, she's horny, she's far bigger than anything you've yet seen in Carnal Instinct, and she'll awake from her antediluvian slumber in time for our Christmas update. Talk about a stocking stuffer. As always thank you so much for your incredible support, it's what makes this entire project possible. Hi all,

First up, minor celebrations are in order so grab your nearest tipple of preference and raise a toast; It is now one year since we made the first build of Carnal Instinct available on Patreon. The amount of progress made since that time has been vast, with the game evolving and improving almost beyond recognition. From scenes with exotic species such as the Naga or Centaur, to dabbling with beings of the void or striding across the sands as a Jackal. Art, combat, movement, camera control, and many mechanics have been overhauled completely, with many new ones such as crafting added to the game. From a near silent experience with no voice acting, to fully fleshed out encounters voiced by an array of talent. Even the visual density of Sabu has changed completely (the images below showing our early and current builds).

  


This initial update for November and it makes a substantial visual change to Kethra's domain; we've been rebuilding our outfits to ensure compatibility with the customisation system and (as you may have seen in the concept art post) we took the chance to massively improve our rank and file, female foot soldiers of Anubis. We will create male Anubites in time, though we need the male Jackal basemodel first to match the style.



The really fun part is that now you can use these new garments with your character, mixing and matching to get the precise look you're after. Everything from just the bra to the collar, mask, and skirt are all options to play with. It's all customisation compatible too, so they can be equipped whatever species you are or whatever cup-size you have. Those fans of the Inquisition look won't be left out for long, with the Inquisitor's Garb currently in production.



As always the map has undergone some substantial changes, with an initial pass done on several areas around the Great Temple of Anubis. This is in preparation for the main quests which pick up very soon, with voice actors currently recording lines for the next step in the Path of the Jackal storyline; "Law and Order".



Finally the winner of one of the Discord Polls is nearing implementation, with the Inquisitor of Bast gaining a sex scene in the near future. Once her new look is done the opportunity to get hot and heavy with her will soon follow so it won't be long before you can bend her to your will. To this end we've already had new dialogue recorded to flesh out her character a little and to allow some back and forth as you win her over. 


Making modular clothing was a hell of a challenge, especially to have them compatible to our satisfaction. We're now working to get Hybrids back in the game, so watch this space. Development & Roadmap Update

Hi all,

In the interests of being open and upfront we wanted to draw everyone's attention to the recent changes to the roadmap. Whilst they're minor adjustments in timing, we know that when it's something you're looking forward to it can be really upsetting when it's delayed. To this end we wanted to highlight that there have been changes, rather than just quietly editing the spreadsheet.

We're working hard on getting all the clothing items back in-game. To this end we've taken the opportunity to overhaul the character costumes and bring the quality up to the level we're at now. This isn't to say the models weren't good before, however some of the design work was against the clock and didn't account for the body morphing coming into play so early in development.

Once implemented, these outfits will not only replace the current NPCs in-game but will all be available to the player as well. They're being built from the ground up to accommodate all body types and "equipment" that you may have, so expect a bulge downstairs if you're more well endowed than average. Additionally we're also looking to make them modular, so you can mix-and-match an outfit of your choosing.

The High Priestess' Attendant, Nepthys, is receiving a makeover and new outfit as well. With this we plan to imminently introduce the female crocodilian as a playable race, fully compatible with the customisation system.

The next major quests in the Path of the Jackal arc are almost here too, with scripts already on the way to voice actors.

So back to the reason for the update; we took the time to step back and consider exact timescales for everything. Whilst we've made great progress thus far, it's important that we manage our work/life balance to reduce the strain on the team. To this end we've looked realistically at what we had planned in the next 6 months and adjusted things to ensure nothing is rushed and/or lacking in quality. This does mean that some things such as Dynamic Sex will have to move back a bit, whilst we already have a version working in the dev build (and there's a possibility they will drop sooner) there's a lot left and it's a big ask to get the additional underlying content in simultaneously.

The roadmap has been restructured to ensure it's achievable without needing to crunch* as was required by the last few updates. It's also worth noting that the roadmap is a public-facing, non-exhaustive list that doesn't reveal many smaller or more experimental features and changes we have planned in the coming months.

Whilst we've always said it's a live document, I know that some of the changes will be disappointing. They are, however, essential for the overall success of the project and minor in the overall timescale of development. As it stands I've not had a single weekend off (other than when I was too injured to work) in months and the rest of the team have also been burning the candle at both ends. What we want to be sure to avoid is the risk of quality dropping to meet arbitrary deadlines, as anything done poorly eventually has to be done twice.

The scheduled updates in the next two months are all still chunky and packing a tonne of new content and features... oh and sex scenes with a massive f*cking dragon... and the Inquisitor of Bast... though not at the same time. At least there's those to look forward to!

Hi all,


We're finally here with the last update of October, but wow was this a busy month. To make up for the delay from September we've crammed four updates into as many weeks, a tall order but we've made it.

The big ticket item this time around is that Jackals are now a playable race. We have had to shift the NPC variant back a little, though she'd have been missing her full adult content until the implementation of the Dynamic Sex System anyway.

As we work to restore content that wasn't compatible with the customisation system we'll be periodically adding the items back into Sabu. The Northern Horns now make their reappearance, sans jingling-collar, at least for now (which will arrive as a separate clothing item in due course).



The mysterious storyteller, Neb-oo, is now complete with full voice acting for her tale. Additionally we've got a small amount of new voiced dialogue for Nepthys, allowing you to hand-in the Vessel of Q'Tesh. The quest doesn't go any further yet, but the new lines should give you a taste of what's in store.



In addition to these flagship items we've fixed numerous bugs, implemented several balance changes, and added gold as a drop from certain enemies.

Finally, in answer to a question which keeps cropping up; yes, we are bringing Demi-Humans (hybrids) back as soon as we can!

It's been a huge task to remake every character in the game, one which we'll be rolling out in the gradual replacement of all NPCs as well. Our next major task is the Dynamic Sex System, something we're excited to get stuck into... for work reasons of course. Thank you so much for all your support, it makes these beautiful things possible.

Bonus Halloween Update [v3.0.14] is now LIVE for AVATAR Tier+

Hi all,

We decided on four updates this month as otherwise the Avatar patrons would've missed out on Halloween content until after the holiday itself. This means we still have another update scheduled this month for Ascended tier, bringing with it more character customisation!

This update brings with it a few spooky surprises like the new Cursed Felian form (customisation system compatible) and a new below-the-belt item in the form of the ghostly Member of Pure Essence. There's also a campfire story to explain the new content too, and a little more lore.

The content is rounded out with yet more world expansion for the main-story quest we're currently working on.

Finally we've also made this fun Halloween-themed wallpaper, mainly for Gargleham but we thought a few of you might also enjoy it!

In terms of what's next, we're working to get a certain canine species playable...



We're on a roll now, three updates in one month and going for the fourth! No spade-wielding lunatic can stop us now, onwards to Jackals... err... Victory! Thank you all so much for your support, development is coming on leaps and bounds all thanks to you.

Hi all,

The slightly delayed mid-month update is here at last. Before we get down to the update proper, we want to give our warmest congratulations to Gargleham who got married last week!



In addition to all of the content we released in the last update, we now have a first-pass version of the new Felian female model. She only has a single skin and fur-tuft set available at the moment, but this will expand over time (as will all options). Equip an equine dong and set your breasts to the max for a true Big Floppa experience.



The map continues to expand and develop, both for the in-development quests and based on patron feedback from the #game-suggestions channel on Discord. The playable area has further expanded and we're ever closer to being able to remove them entirely.

There are new side-quests and spooky Halloween content in the works this month too, so keep your eyes peeled for the Ascended update around 30th October.

Hi all,

We had no shortage of issues last month, you could say we had them in spades. That said, we're finally here with the tentative initial release of the character customisation system. There will be a further two updates to this system in October alone, so don't worry that the game has taken a step back in some areas as this content will reappear soon.

For this initial release we've enabled customisation on Human Males, Human Females, and Draconid Females. Due to the new material system however we've temporarily pulled the hybrid demi-races, as the system they relied on is no longer used for the player (they'll be back later in the month).

For now you can select the species you wish to adopt the form of from within the inventory, though as the world and story develops this will shift to an in-world area and/or item to enable adjustment. All the sliders we've implemented thus far are also unlocked by default, though as the game progresses we'll add bonus customisation that unlocks with quest completion and specific sexual encounters.

Body cosmetics are now housed in this menu as well, to reduce the confusion with skin-tight garments such as the Bedlah or Wraps. This initial release introduces a handful of additional Draconid skins but removes the glowing and iridescent versions - the new and improved versions of these are coming later in October.

Your head cosmetics, hair or horns, will no longer be an inventory item but instead part of the customisation. To this end we've added placeholder hairstyles to give some starting options prior to the content schedule of adding many new variations in the coming months.


Every character in the game has been rebuilt from scratch for this update, granting us far more detailed deformation including genitals for the in-development dynamic sex system. 

In terms of story we're well into implementing additional quests, with scripts already sent out to actors to record full voice for the plotlines. The main story too is awaiting the dynamic sex system in order to be able to take full advantage of Bast's Inquisitor.

In preparation for a major questline we've also opened up the Slaver's Quarry zone, populated with countless unfortunates. You can't yet get involved in the story there, but you can have a poke around and get some idea of the events yet to unfold on the world.



There are a plethora of other changes as usual, the most significant of which is the inclusion of a rare and secret weapon. Some say it struck the heavens themselves...



Thank you all so much for bearing with us during the challenges of September. We're midway through Felian customisation and demi-races are close behind; October is going to be a full month in terms of new features!  We're excited to see what you make with the system once it's fully released.

Development Progress & October Update Schedule

Hi all,

This is a very short update to fill everyone in on where we are right now with development. As those of you on the Discord server will be aware, in late September echo was attacked by a spade-wielding man and left with significant injuries to his left hand. Once the attacker was released under investigation he proceeded to break into echo's house. For obvious reasons this caused delays, both due to the physical injury and also the steps echo had to take to ensure the safety of his wife and young children.

The character content is heavily reliant on echo and so the update was consequently pushed back. Development is getting back track however, and we anticipate releasing three updates this month. We're tentatively announcing the following dates on which we hope to release the new customisation content.

10th* - Ascended: Playable Customisation (Human Female, Human Male, Draconid Female)

20th* - Avatar:  Playable Customisation (Felian Female)

30th* - Ascended: Playable Customisation (+New Jackal Female)

[*these are the dates we're aiming for, updates will release around these points in the month but may fall a day earlier/later depending on any unforeseen last-minute snags.]

It's a lot to crunch, especially given that echo is still dosed up on pain medication, but we didn't decide to make Carnal Instinct because it would be easy. In addition to this we have new quests in development, including the much requested spade-themed encounter (complete with spade weapon).

I find it super weird writing in the third person but that's the format we use for updates, so here's a bit from me directly. The last month has been both f*cking awful and extremely uplifting; whilst being violently attacked doesn't rate in the Top10 Anime Moments of my life, the support from the community has been truly amazing. So many of you continue to reach out and check that I'm okay, something I'd not expected at all. I'm just happy to be back working on the project I love and making content once again. Thank you all for your understanding at this time, now it's up to me to earn that support and get back to it.

We're here with the first update for September. Whilst it does include a vast list of changes, additions and improvements, this update does not yet include character customisation as it simply isn't ready yet; in order to implement customisation we have to rip out much of the existing content and we need to finish up a multitude of things before we can do so without entirely breaking the game.

It's been a packed month of development for us thus far and it shows no sign of stopping. For starters we've entirely rebuilt the world, shifting landmarks around and reforming areas to reflect our evolving designs and understanding of the kingdom. The NPC count in the world has been significantly increased, so the villages and farms should feel less abandoned (this will increase yet again in future). These changes do mean that old saves will not work at all due to all world positions of NPCs having changed.

For those that wish to wield the most powerful implements of death there are new tools in the arsenal of crafting options; Damascus Weapons. These lethal blades and spears are crafted from rare materials and will make short work of even the toughest foes.



The new customisation will drop in the second update of the month, featuring all-new seamless bodies for Draconids and Humans (Felians are receiving their own overhaul along with the addition of Jackals next month). There are a multiple hair/horn options for each race coming in the updates too, so you'll finally be able to drastically alter your character, no longer locked to a specific appearance.

Players will now have to unlock the use of the Alchemist and Weaponsmith, finding the characters in the world and recruiting them for the camp. Be wary however, their current captors may not look too kindly on you releasing their "guest".



Bast's Inquisitor now features all-new, post-defeat options for those players who don't want a violent finale to the confrontation (and one for those who want a more violent ending for the Cat-Worshipping Zealot). There will be more options to come in future, for her and other defeated mini-bosses.


Sabu is more alive than ever, with overhauled Crocodiles and Hippos now patrolling her waterways.

We again find ourselves at the point that we need to ask for your input, this time in shaping the visuals for one of the factions; The Followers of Bast. We're torn on which direction we want to go with them, so this really is a chance to help design their appearance. One of these underwear options (and variants of it) will become the standard for Bast's zealots and a lootable cosmetic for the player.

The first is a Bast-inspired set of lingerie, embroidered with silver thread and symbols of purity. This marks the desire of the order to distance themselves from the aesthetic of Kethra and push more in the fashion of the Narthossi Empire to the north.

The second option embraces the look of Kethra's wardrobe and seeks to reclaim it - demystifying the carnal ways of the blasphemous, False Goddess. This beaded negligée has gaps in all the right places and is finished with an ornate golden collar.

Both options will work as the Bedlah does and would be able to be equipped as a base-layer along with outfits.

Only one of these can win, with the other consigned to the sands of time. Choose wisely.

Right to the wire but here we are with the Ascended update! We've opted to add greater depth than we were initially intended to our Character Customisation so, whilst it won't be available in-game this update, it's very much in development. Once it's implemented we don't want to have to revisit the underlying system so, with that in mind, we've built in a few more complex features. Some of these we won't expose to players right away but they'll make an appearance over the next few months.



One of these secondary customisation systems is racial appearance for all species. For humans this means a range of features reflecting the various areas encompassed by the world of Carnal Instinct, but for non-human characters it's a little more nuanced. Lesser Draconids (the versions currently in-game), for example, will range from more dinosaur-like to more dragon-like in their looks, with a wide array of horns and fins to fine-tune their design. This will be the new customisation standard for all species added to Carnal Instinct.

The team have also pushed hard for a more granular set of customisation systems, allowing for detailed player adjustment of skins. This is not yet game-ready, as we need to ensure it's straightforward for players to use, but it allows for a range of patterns, markings, and colour options (skins above make use of the colour variation options only - much more is possible within the system). [Note for Demigod Patrons: Once this system is implemented Demigod skin rewards will add the patterns/markings necessary to create the desired skin].


This month did have a handful of crafting items and camp upgrades initially planned, though we've ended up shifting these to the first update of September in order to make time to implement a new scene into this update. The Mysterious Urn of Wobbly Goo [100% canon item name] now has some utility, so if you'd like to find out more then it's worth paying a visit to a certain slave camp. It's currently repeatable by re-collecting the goo jar, though very, very soon there will be a particular slimy area of the camp to unlock (should you so desire).



We're also in the final stages of enlarging and reworking the world. Not only are there vast new areas coming, but familiar places have been overhauled to visually improve the world and prepare Sabu for major story developments in the near future.



The last item of note is that we've implemented some options in the menu to disable some sex scenes for those players that don't want to encounter said content. Currently there are only two switches, however starting next month we'll widen the range of content you can enable/disable. This will make no change to the types of NPCs met in the world, but you can now avoid unintentionally entering into a scene that features an act you're not down for.


We're well underway on many other goodies, things that we're not quite ready to show off yet, but keep your eyes peeled for incoming dev blogs as the month progresses! NB: We've had a few emails and DM's, so to clarify: The game update schedule remains the same! Dev blogs will be an ADDITIONAL series of posts on top of the normal content.

This first update of the month will be a little different than usual - whilst we have made our range of changes and improvements to the game, we've mainly been working on some much larger overhauls that will begin paying off in subsequent updates. That means that this post will be more of a dev-blog, something we will now do from time to time along with the regular update posts to keep you all appraised of what we're working on. For starters we're well underway with implementing character customisation, starting with our current female races. These aren't yet live, however we've got breast size, general bodyfat, and even labia shape now working in our dev build (among others).


Our character models have received an upgrade as part of the customisation work, with detail levels increasing and the sculpts getting a rework. Customisation options themselves will be adjustable via  sliders, with elements such as breasts going from itty bitty tiddies to a real set of badonkers (subject to final implementation and QA, see development version below).



The other, almost more noticeable upgrade, is that we've made huge changes to how we handle animation (see the gif at the top of the post). The shift away from entirely hand-keyed sequences to the use of realtime performance capture is something we've wanted to do for a while and that is only now possible thanks to the incredible support of all our Patrons. This new animation content isn't yet live in-game, but now that we have integrated this into our pipeline you can expect to see far more detailed integrations and sex scenes in the near future. We think that it's essential in joining the upcoming dynamic sex system into the world rather than the alternative of a "click to f*ck" system with snap in place animations.

When we first pushed the initial build of Carnal Instinct live on Patreon back in November 2020, we had no idea that within a year we'd be implementing full real-time performance capture. We're blown away by the support that we've received from our community - it's only thanks to you all that we're able to bring this incredible dream to life.

Hi all,


We're here at last, bringing with us the first implementation of many camp systems, a boatload of new weapon variations, and a whole host of crafting materials. We've managed to make up for a lot of the time lost to staff sickness, though we'll be the first to admit that there are some things we'd love to have implemented already if we'd all been operational. We're a small team and so when two of our number are down it does have an impact, but despite that we've delivered a chunky feature-heavy update.

The addition of crafting to the game brings with it a plethora of new kit, including multiple variants of our Khopesh, Longsword, Spear, and Daggers. Not only can you shape metal into weapons, but the very bones and teeth of your enemies can be fashioned into vicious implements of death (that will soon deal the upcoming "primal" damage type).


As the game creeps towards including more RPG features, our enemies now drop new lore-relevant crafting ingredients ranging from various types of Essence to everyone's favourite Writhing Grubs. Some ingredients cannot yet be used, such as the Reptilian Pelt, however they're needed for things that are already in the works.


The Camp now features the first handful of customisation options, allowing you to choose your Tent, Bed, Follower Housing, and Monument. For now these are purely cosmetic changes, but many will shortly be linked to NPCs that wander your camp (Follower Housing) or the tier of NPC that will roll in the sheets with you (Bed).


With the addition of Khaba's audio, the main quest up to the final stage of Diamond in the Rough is now fully voice acted. More quests, including main quests and the next boss-fight, are currently in-development.

Finally we've taken on board the tidal wave of votes, including the famous Bread V Sweat straw poll, and overhauled our roadmap top to bottom. We not only looked at the winners but the runners up and all areas of interest, factoring this into our new full-time schedule. We'll publish our rearranged roadmap in the coming days, but for the time being please note that the current one is out of date; August is now focussed on Character Customisation, with Dynamic Sex the next priority.

We want to thank you all so much for your support. We've got a decent chunk of the "normal game" content in and can now focus more on quests, sex, customisation, sex, and sex for a while. The community continues to grow and we're still listening and watching (and echo is stacking the references document full to the brim with tonnes of the art posted in the various channels - damn that Tiger Demon Chick...).

We love engaging with the community and we're constantly looking for more ways to get you all directly involved in development, so keep an eye out for polls and discussions in the coming weeks. Again we truly appreciate the support for our unwell team members - they're both back in the saddle now though so we're firing on all cylinders and mixing our metaphors like never before!

Hi all,


We're well into July and it's time for the first update of the month - it's a little later than we've hoped as we've had a significant period of staff sickness. Thankfully everyone is back at work now and we're cracking on with development at our usual pace.

Our biggest chunk of workload so far has been into the work-in-progress camp systems - from Alchemy and Crafting to the selection of cosmetics to customise your new home. The tents pictured are the placeholder meshes, and aren't yet playable, but they'll drop in the second update of the month.

The world has also greatly increased in size; though there is little in these new areas yet, they're essential in a huge new quest that we're developing. We're playing this very close to our chest, so whilst you can already see the world shaping up, the exact purpose of this area will remain TOP SECRET for the time being.



What is already playable is some of the new weapons that will plug into our crafting system - Daggers and Swords. Both of these new weapon types feature entirely new animations and models - with the potential to upgrade both their visuals and stats later this month in the Ascended update.



Our cast are more immersive than ever, with Esi, Tuvan, and Anubite #69 now fully voiced (Khaba joins them later this month). The world is coming to life too, with Desert Cats now hunting in the foothills of Sabu - for now they're little more than a nuisance but once crafting is implemented they'll soon become a valuable resource.

In addition we've implemented some new cloth shaders and fabric patterns to start improving the visual fidelity of the docks and surrounding area. These add some much needed subtle detail and further enhance the "lived-in" appearance of the God Queen's domain.


Finally we're in the process of updating the roadmap to reflect the desires of the community, based on the recent poll. There will be both winners and losers, but we can confirm that Character Customisation and the Dynamic Sex System are now both very near the top of the pile. Some things will shift later in the year to accommodate these being brought forward, so look out for the revised version of the roadmap along with the Ascended Update later in July.

We know that this is a game-heavy update, with new combat mechanics and the prerequisites for huge new systems, but with the Dynamic Sex System moving so much further up the queue there are now some very, very sexy months ahead.

This is the first of two votes for the camp starting options. When the system first launches there will be limited choices, something we'll add unlocks for regularly as the game develops. The first Player Tent option is very simple, little more than a collection of tattered rags, fitting as the home for where our story will eventually begin; the Escaped Slave's Shelter.

As we move forward though other paths will open up, different quest outcomes will add to the available cosmetics for the camp. It's to this end that we need your help in choosing what the starting selection looks like. For this month a single option will make it in-game (in addition to the starting tent.

These tents are fairly large and you can walk around inside them, housing your stash, bed and throne. The options available range from the militaristic canvas structures used by the Northern Narthossi Empire, to the rich pillows and silks of those that seek little beyond the pleasures of the flesh. 

It's one vote per patron this time around so choose wisely.

Intro

As we get underway with the camp systems this month, we're aware that it has been a long time since we asked you for your feedback on our outline plans. In June we made some key changes to what we delivered, opting for more of the core system upgrades to allow greater depth in both future features and quests.

We've decided that it's now time to allow you the opportunity to make changes to the roadmap, so to that end we have this new poll. Unfortunately polls are a blunt instrument, so we can't offer the granular options we'd like, but we can still rate the overall priorities of the community.

If the majority view aligns with our existing roadmap, little to nothing will change, however we're open to greatly shifting elements around where possible to change the order of delivery.

You can vote for as many as you like, though we recommend ~5 selections each to try and make preferences more pronounced in the finished numbers. Options are arranged in alphabetical order, there is no significance to where something appears on the list.

Wherever things shake out, we'll aim to implement a multitude of systems and content in Carnal Instinct, this simply allows us to ensure we're making the game with our community and that your desires are reflected in the process and the order of creation.

This hopefully means that you'll get your hands on the things you want the most sooner than you might have otherwise.

Welcome to the second update for June. This update marks our first significant departure from our initial plans for a month, as laid out on our roadmap, and with good reason. There were several chunky systems we've been working on behind the scenes that were very nearly ready to push live and, with the camp systems dropping next month, we wanted them in-game before that time.

So what were the various winners and losers in this shake-up? Well the males are now in-game, though with limited content; you can still run, fight, swim, and fuck as a male human, however only two sex scenes are available thus far (and they're both for the bigger equipment).

Our initial four Patron shrines have been moved back a month - with 3/4 of them featuring pre-order content we felt that we didn't want to rush content in without the attention to detail it deserved. Eagle-eyed players will discover the first zone, though it's currently devoid of embellishments and interaction. 

It was a tough decision for us to make, but over the coming weeks and months the shrines will be implemented in waves, bumped back to make way for the new features. The assets are already complete and we're excited to share with you some of the most detailed environment artwork in the game to date.

This change allowed us to implement the first-pass of some key systems that are needed for players to get the most out of next-month's camp update; the new day/night cycle and our levelling/xp system.

The implementation of day and night, as teased in our very first trailer, is something that's really important to how Sabu will develop over time. Currently the change is merely cosmetic, but in future the nocturnal gameplay will feature different enemies and encounters among other changes.

For a long time the RPG component of the game has been in need of further development and, whilst we're still firmly in pre-alpha, we're taking another step in that direction with the introduction of a levelling system. It's currently woefully unbalanced, but you'll now encounter enemies of different levels and your own level will increase with XP gained. This will further feed into other systems as well (that we're currently playing close to our chest).

Another item that had to be shifted back was the 'Welcome Home" quest. Initially we'd planned to release it this month, however it would have dead-ended with an empty camp that players couldn't upgrade, so we felt it made more sense to implement it along with the camp mechanics themselves in July.

"Levels are great, and I wanted that quest, but what about the sex?!" I hear you cry. Well, have no fear, for we have two slaves bound and begging for it... literally... I mean they're on the verge of petrification here. Male and female options are available, though both currently only support a male player. Both are particularly messy in the end too, given that they're for larger members.

We've name-dropped the camp already, and the site for it now exists in the world. What props or buildings you'll find there are temporary however, and will be replaced next month (the votes for the buildings have been delayed whilst we finalised some design decisions and will go up in the next few days).

For now the camp lacks any of its systems, beyond a temporary implementation of the sleep mechanic (to advance time). If you're a fan of a particular time of day then you can interact with the player's bed to skip to it. Again you can already see how this will feed into other systems. We love it when a plan comes together... well not just when plans do it. 

In terms of visual upgrades, both the water and sky have received an overhaul, making the world far more appealing to spend time in. Performance costs have been balanced with further optimisations, so you shouldn't see much of a hit (if any) to your framerate.

New bodies and scenes call for new equipment below the belt, with this month featuring the Demigod-Patron funded Ultimatus. It's a spikey, spiny, nubby, knotted tool of both pleasure and pain. The long-dead being it belonged to has little use for it now, so you may as well take it for a spin.

Overall June has been a mammoth task, laying what we think are some essential improvements for the camp systems next month. We know that this marks a significant change in some areas, though we ensured what we considered the 'core' deliverables (primarily males) were included.

This is a huge step forward and, as the camp drops over the next updates, Sabu is about to have a lot more going on.

The June updates marks the seventh month that Carnal Instinct has been available to Patrons, and how it has changed since November 2020! In this short time we've expanded and overhauled so many systems and assets that the world is a far cry from that initial release. This update is the next step in the consistent and wide-ranging improvements we've been making to the game and, as we work towards the implementation of males later this month, the inventory and equipment system was squarely in our sights. It was a massive undertaking, and we didn't know how much we'd be able to include in a single update, but here's the 'Surprise Bonus' we mentioned on the roadmap...

For too long you've been forced to go nude whenever playing as an Anthro character - that restriction ends today; in our first major step in upgrading the equipment system you can now combine any skin-tight garment with any body cosmetic. Blue Draconid in white wraps? Sorted. Calico Felian in a silver bikini? Go right ahead. There are now over 200 combinations of body cosmetics with which to fine-tune your avatar's.



Whilst this inventory itself is only temporary, as we're still in the process of overhauling the backend, we did think that some of the icons needed some clarification. To this end we've created new icons for all cosmetics, including a symbol to distinguish them from the forms. Eagle-eyed players will notice there are a few new options here too, with new Pale and Feral Felian skins now joining the line-up of cosmetics. 



Additionally we felt that gating human skin tones with cosmetics was reductive, so now you can choose the race of your human skin in the menu. As with many things in the world of Carnal Instinct, some are drawn from our world (Nubian) whilst others are entirely of Kethra's domain (Lybossan). There are 5 skin-only ethnicities currently available, though there are alternate heads in-development to ensure that players have the freedom to shape their ideal character.



In addition to the multitude of new customisation content there are countless adjustments to the detail of the world from additional idle animations that breathe life into the characters and foliage that bends and shifts as you walk through it, to alterative variants of the Cursed Ones and all new enemies such as the Crocodile. We're always pushing the visual fidelity and the overall quality, with this update being no exception.



Finally we've made some minor optimisations to the world itself, as well slightly expanding a few areas. It's important to us that every build of the game looks great and plays well. As for what's next, the Ascended update at the end of June will bring with it Male Humans, new zones, the 'Ultimatus' genital option, and much more besides

Keep an eye out for two Patron-only votes that'll drop in the next week or two - these will define some of the starting unlocks for the camp when it goes live in July.

It's time for the second update of the month and it's a big, gameplay-heavy one this time around. In addition to gaining access to the first humans available in Sabu, there's a host of new cosmetics, massive gameplay changes, and  "quality of life" improvements large and small.

So no more beating about the bush - our lovely ladies can now sport human heads (female) in a range of skin tones. For now this is still done via the equipment-slot system, though we're well into development on more player customisation and fine-tuning, so soon this will be handled differently.




We love to get our supporters involved with development, and this month was no different. Thanks to all those that voted, players can now show the world that they've lain with a Centaur without using their words; our (last minute) vote-winning "leaking creampie" skin is the messy new exclusive content. It's available in a range of tones to pair with the new head cosmetics and features a well-glazed posterior as well as some generous thigh-splatter.



Need more manhood options? We've got you covered. The pulsating, powerful Naga member is now available for those who want a python in their pants. If you prefer more mammalian junk then fear not; we've added two alternate variants of the Equine manhood for your lovers to ride (Plough Horse & Shadow Stallion).



Quest-wise, players can finally complete the second half of Diamond in the Rough and face off against the mysterious Tomb Guardian (Felian included for scale) in the Chamber of Q'Tesh. As usual the world has again expanded and we've upgraded the detail throughout, with the rocks and foliage now sporting a much greater level of visual fidelity with no loss of performance. 

Our second Naga, Toses, is now ready for action too - talk with Djeda if you'd like to spend some time with her. ***As of this version Toses sex scene is suspended due to a serious bug, it'll be re-enabled via hotfix in the next day or so (though she has other voiced-content to be discovered by those of a curious disposition).***



So at last we come to our more miscellaneous changes, of which there are many. The improvements range from the new pause menu and additional camera-angles during dialogue to new foot-IK during combat, better grounding the player and improving the look of animations. "Quality of life" changes include better quest-tracking, such as "Follow up Quest" prompts, and weapon switching key-binds (1 and 2 on your keyboard). 


We're moving forward at pace now, and the game is starting to really take shape. Thank you so much for your continued support and for helping to make Carnal Instinct a reality. This was a gameplay-heavy update but there's much more R-rated content coming soon.

It's that time once again - the first update of the month is here. It's a day or two later than we'd like, but we've made a lot of much needed upgrades to the land of the God Queen.

The first new element is sssssomewhat obviousssssss - you can now get your serpent drained by a Naga in scenes for members both large and small... she'll even pay you for the privilege. She's our first 'Seed Trader' and will eventually tie into the breeding, pregnancy, and virility systems down the line.

If that isn't enough for you then this next update should really make a splash (I'm so sorry)... the invisible walls that once held you back from the life-giving waters of the Euphoris River are gone. Our first implementation of swimming is now in-game, allowing you to rapidly cross to areas that would once have meant a substantial trek. Whilst relatively safe for now, in coming updates all manner of creatures will creep forth from between the reeds to hunt the waterways of this forsaken land. 



The worldmap too has received a much-needed series of upgrades. In addition to a new legend you can find your current location with 'F', as well as quest tracking icons and tooltips on locations.



Continuing to expand the arsenal of weapons available to both the player and their foes, we've added the Kethrite Spear. These ancient polearms were the preferred armament of the God Queen's Royal Guard and have survived beneath the sands in the the millenia since her fall. Spears offer a different avenue of attack in the violent and turbulent land of Sabu.



Finally the world grows smaller even as it expands; fast travel is now available from multiple locations in the map. Once discovered you can move instantly between these powerful artefacts of the God Queen's kingdom, something that will expand much further in the near future.



Aside from the update itself, we've spent the past few weeks re-evaluating our schedule as the team becomes full-time over the next couple of months. Now that we have more time to dedicate to the game, we want to expand some elements and add additional systems and content that we'd not previously allowed for. We also want to make previously-planned systems and content more in-depth, this necessarily means that our roadmap has shifted somewhat. We've tried to scale elements more consistently this time, indicating roughly how much of our time will go into development of any given system.

Some elements have visually disappeared but are essentially broken into sub-elements (i.e. Tomb of the Ascended expanded to become Chamber of Q'tesh and Demigod Tomb). Finally we've locked-in some NPC species that were previously open to Patron polls, as we needed them for the main story on our new, faster timetable.

As always, this roadmap is a base level, and additional systems and content will continue to be added on top. View the roadmap in full here. 


I know we say it all the time, but we are truly grateful for all your support. There is so much, much more yet to come and every single person that supports the game, from Acoylte right up to Demigod, is helping to make our vision a reality. We're finally preparing to add the names of all Ascended Tier Patrons to ornate panels in the Tomb of the Ascended. Any Patron to ever hold the Founding Ascended tier or above qualifies for this.

Greetings oh powerful and eternal ones,

The time has finally come for you to make your choices for Shrines. There are many options which are available immediately, along with some which are now planned but that we've not yet announced for our roadmap. As we're all going to be working full-time on Carnal Instinct, the level of content we're able to produce will increase and, as a result, there are a great deal of additional options that will be implemented in the next year.

If you don't want to wait a moment longer than is utterly essential, make sure you avoid options marked with  * as these are the pre-order options for not-yet available content. Please bear in mind that shrines upgrade over time and some things that you select will not unlock if you stop holding a relevant tier (and do not resume in the future).

For Demigods who plan to replace their other rewards with shrine upgrades, please still complete the form and we'll reach out to discuss what's changing.

Hey all,

We're here with the second update of the month; we have the Naga NPC in - ready for her 'snuggles' later in May - as well as a new genital option, new weapon, more Concubine Adept action (patent pending), and more!

The world has again grown, fleshing out toward the Tomb of the Ascended for the next boss fight and major story progress. This is reflected in the new worldmap, extending the area covered to encompass the new zones.

The Void Spirit has now moved to a mysterious ruin, something you'll need to explore the main story to uncover. For those of you who wish to know more of the lore of Sabu, Nepthys (our favourite voluptuous crocodile lady) can now cover some of the ancient history, as well as send you onwards in the main story - setting the scene for next month's miniboss encounter with the Tomb Guardian.

In terms of sexual content there's a huge new genital option to add to the roster of implausibly large endowments; the Void Titan Manhood now joins the ranks. Aesthetically it's very similar to the Void Spirit, and of average proportions... for a much larger creature than the Player.

We also have two alternate variants of scenes for the concubine trio; facesitting and table sex (player penetrated). Both of these scenes work for females and futa (including large-cock futa).

For those players who like their encounters a little more primal, we now have multiple Naga NPC variants ready to go - with several scenes in production for the May update. To spice up the dune zones of Sabu there is also an environmental hazard variant of the Naga in development.

Whilst it may not seem like a great deal at first, the addition of special weapon types marks a shift in combat gameplay. The Void Imbued Khopesh deals bonus damage to certain enemy types and marks the start of weapons and equipment giving significant differences to the player's capabilities. We've done a great deal under the hood, so expect future updates to bring far more RPG elements into play.

Now that we'll soon be able to dedicate much more time to the project, we will be updating the roadmap to cover the rest of the year in more detail - both expanding some elements beyond their original scope and adding all new content. There is much, much more yet to come. Thank you so much for making all of this possible!

Known Issues v0.1.74: 

  • Some players will encounter issues with old saves due to Quest, Dialog and Map Changes.
  • Repeated Swapping of Inventory items in some circumstances will lead to the loss of the item to the void.
  • Door Keys for Milk and Honey do not suvive a save/load.
  • It is possible to reverse mount/climb multiple objects.
  • Gamepad Controllers are not fully supported due to the Keybind Re-binding system not being finished.
  • Keybinding is not working for all possible actions.
  • Some keybinds show the incorrect key (i.e. Save/Load)

Anubite & Demigod Shrines

Hey all,

It's finally here - the fabled 'Shrine' post. We've spoken about these rewards in the past, but it's always useful to know exactly what you can expect! So then, what exactly is a shrine?

In Carnal Instinct Shrines are powerful sites that hold the essence of a Demigod. Unlike a Ritual Vessel or Keystone, Shrines contain not merely their power but instead the very soul of the Demigod. Players that hold (or have held) the relevant tier for 6 months, or who pay for those tiers annually, will now unlock shrines of their own. These structures will remain in the map forever and become part of Sabu even if said Patron stops supporting the project. If they remain a supporter however, the shrine will grow in wealth and size, eventually featuring an orgy of its own.

Found in the Tomb of the Ascended zone, the entrances to shrines will dot the landscape, expanding existing ruins or hidden beneath villages. The specific location of a Shrine, and the entrance to it, is left to the discretion of the development team, however there are a wealth of choices that eligible patrons will be surveyed on in the coming days. Many of these do not require images to accompany them, however those that do are included in this post.



The layout of a Shrine is universal, although it will extend further once support at a qualifying tier reaches 12 months (or for those with annual billing). Usually found clustered in groups of 3 - 12 within a single larger complex, the structures are comprised of an 8M x 8M room, supported by ornate pillars and housing a statue in the center. Around the statue will be offerings left by Acolytes of the Demigod. After the tier is held for 9 months by Anubite Patrons, or 6 months for Demigod Tier Patrons (i.e. immediately upon shrine unlock), Acolytes devoting themselves to the deity will be present. The numbers of followers and offerings will grow with time, for every month the tier is held. If a subscription is ended all rewards earned will remain forever.



The various finishes and details available for the shrine allow a broad range of customisation; from a 'realistic' Egyptian-style painted sandstone finish, to an ethereal fragment of the void. The 'main' surface is the material listed first in each swatch and will be what the structure is actually made of. The other listed part of each option is the detail material. For Gold this means that the patterns and carvings will be inlaid with gold, giving a luxurious finish. For Void this means that the room itself will be a fragmented shell, cracks in reality showing through to the endless expanse of the 'space between spaces'.

  • Pillar Type (3 options)
  • Statue Species (Human, Jackal, Feline, Equine, Serpentine, Draconic, Void, & more)
  • Surface Finish (4 options)
  • Acolyte Specifics (Species, Sexual Orientation, Sex Act*)
  • Offering type (4 options)
  • Other misc 'yes/no' cosmetic options

*must be an existing sex act or a Demigod reward act


Demigod Specific Options

Shrines for Demigod Patrons are the same as those for Anubites, however they start at a more developed point. The Shrine will be the default location of any bonus content funded by that Patron. Demigod Patrons can also elect to swap their 'genital option', 'sex scene', or any other reward for unique upgrades to their shrine. For example you can see on the roadmap that one shrine will grant a bonus to Player and NPC fertility once activated, something specifically requested by a Patron in place of other content. If you would like to discuss what is possible then please DM echo via Discord.

Whatever you choose there will be a wealth of other options to outfit your shrine, so watch out for the survey as and when it drops in the next few days.

v0.1.71 has now been released to address a number of small bugs with v0.1.69, please update using your launcher.

The first update of the month is here, this time with the patron-voted 'Void Spirit' form (and related sex scenes). We've also added our first Demigod-Funded content this month, in the form of the 'Enchanted Draquine Manhood' - a uniquely patterned, glowing genital option.

We've also expanded the world in preparation for the next stage in the main story quest (as well as the addition of the Naga NPC) later this month. Currently these expanded areas are not reflected in the map UI, however this will change in the second update.



For our Avatar Tier Patrons, this update also grant's access to the first main quest, the mini-boss encounter, new cosmetics, and a chat with a top-heavy crocodile

We'd like to thank each and every patron for your incredible support - we've reached our goal and the core team are starting to work on the project full-time (once notice periods are up)! Expect to see more content and a greater level of polish as we move forward!

FLASH Poll - New Genital Options

We find ourselves here again; it's time for the community to shape the upcoming update! This month it's dongs again, of all shapes and sizes. We're trying out several shorter polls this month, so please vote ASAP if you see something you want!

Please take note of the following sizes available in the poll;

  • Small - 'Normal' human size, much smaller than the current cock size in-game (will not be used with many current scenes, will be used in planned future scenes).
  • Medium - The current 'default' cock size in-game (e.g. Human cock).
  • Large - The current 'large' cock size in-game (e.g. Equine cock).

As the eleventh hour approaches we're narrowly across the line! This is the second content update for the month and it serves two key purposes; to add an introductory quest of the first story arc of the game, and to implement the content needed for the even more substantial quests coming up in our roadmap.

It's a gameplay heavy update this time around, with a plethora of new, voice-acted content. There are no new scenes in the update, but now that we've expanded the roster of available options there are many coming next month. 

The new gear items available from [SPOILERS] after the [SPOILERS] are part of April's roadmap, but an in-development version of the outfit is available now (and will remain in your inventory with future updates).

The Priestess' attendant Nepthys is now in-game too, showcasing our new Crocodile NPC. She has much more of a role to play in April and beyond, granting you access to her mistress and the major story quest when it drops. For now you can admire her black eyes, her intricate scales, her voice acting, and her HONKING GREAT BADONKADONKS.

There is an additional Anubite & Demigod post coming in the next few days, explaining the player shrines and Demigod-funded additional content.

We've made a huge amount of progress this month and with the vast support shown by the community we're looking to accelerate development and continue to earn the trust you have all placed in us.
