They picked the name Mitchell because it sounded "uptight." But what an unlikely coincidence to replicate all three of JCM's names! I wonder if that might've been a factor they forgot about or don't want to explain???

Tell me what you think of this: John (Jay) Pritchett is the father-in-law of Cameron and father to Mitchell. Do you suppose there's a chance these characters were named in honor of actor/director John Cameron Mitchell? I know that Shortbus came out a few years before Modern Family and there's a decent chance that some of the writers on that show, (like me), really adored and learned a lot from that amazing movie. Thoughts?

2022-05-29 21:31:50 +0000 UTCA very moving clip between Jesse and Debra. It is amazing how much change occurred between the start and end of Modern Family. Having a gay couple was a big deal at the start but was nearly passe by the end. Of course, some of those gains have eroded in recent times too. A good reminder that we can't get too comfortable. Though I enjoyed Modern Family, my favorite TV role of Jesse's was a one-season comedy on CBS called The Class. It's a 2006 CBS ensemble comedy created by David Crane (Friends) and Jeffrey Klarik (Episodes). It also stars Andrea Anders, Jon Bernthal, Lizzy Caplan, Jason Ritter, Lucy Punch, Sam Harris, and Sean Maguire, among others. The show could have used more time to mature but Jesse in particular was uncomfortably hilarious.
