As much as it is awful to be in the closet, I also think it must have been sheer hell to be the woman marrying a gay man to keep his gayness a secret from fans. I feel so much sadness from these women going into a relationship that they knew was empty, or worse if they didn't know that it was a "prop". Ugh, the past was awful.

That's one of the first gay relationships I remember seeing on screen, though it was well after most of what you've covered from Barney Miller, etc.

2022-01-23 22:28:41 +0000 UTCAs a teen, I was REALLY into learning about the Hollywood Golden Age. I bought old gossip mags and read ever book I could find on the subject. I remember reading somewhere in a pulp-rag gossip mag a bit of gossip that indicated Cary Grant was as likely to be romantically associated with men as with women. In her autobiography, his last wife Dyan Cannon made it very clear that he was definitely attracted to women, though. There were also rumors of him being into BDSM, but I couldn't find any current sources to corroborate this. This would have been much more controversial even than him being gay at the time. Anyway, it is clear, if nothing more than from the wild rumors, that Cary Grant lead a very interesting life.

The photo in the video might be from an afterparty possibly.
