Sewers of Paris: You Can be Sad or You Can be Gay (Ep 370 - Guy Branum)

Fifty-eight years ago this weekend, the musical Hello Dolly opened on Broadway — and this week we’re diving into the Sewers archive for a chat with Guy Branum about why, for him, the show encapsulates all the greatest joyful aspects of being gay.

The Anthony Perkins SNL has a great sketch where Tony mashes up his roles in "Equus" and "Hello Dolly" to play a sort of strange musical therapist. It's delightfully daft, and he and Jane Curtain are wonderful together!

If you like that, you should check out Guy's book! It's called "My Life as a Goddess." He really is fantastic.

I listened to the entire episode, while I was cleaning the theatre of which I’m the Facilities Manager. I was entranced! Guy so eloquently described the common efforts in which we try to fit in, & ultimately fail. It’s only when we #bevisiblepresentproud that we can truly be ourselves. ❤️
