MHA Paragon 2.0 Chapter 52 Internship Pt. 1

"ALRIGHT SETTLE DOWN!"

The class went dead silent as Aizawa walked through the door the last of his bandages and cast finally taken off, "I know all of you are riding high from the Sports Festival and it's well deserved but there are important things we need to discuss today."

Walking up to the board Aizawa projected a screen, that listed everyone's name along with a bar attached to a number.

"These are the number of offers everyone received for the internship program starting next week. As you can see there is a rather large disparity, but don't be dismayed even receiving one is a point of pride. And I am thrilled to say that every from 1-A received at least five." Aizawa informed with his deadpan tone.

Meanwhile, I couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed as I stared at my name with a bar that far exceeded everyone's with well over one hundred offers, 'Did he have to put it up for everyone to see, what the hell happened to discretion.'

"Now for many of you, this will be your first time interacting with the professional hero industry. The goal of your internship is to get first-hand experience with how a professional operates, in a professional setting. Thus for the two weeks of your internship, you will appear in public for the first time in costume which means you need a name to go along with it."

At that, an excited murmur rose from the class but it died down when the door opened and a familiar face walked in, "By the sound of that, you just told them they were picking out their hero names."

Midnight grinned as she stared at us her eyes glowing in excitement.

"I was before you interrupted," Aizawa muttered before sighing, "As many of you know this is Midnight, and she's here to oversee and offer advice on your hero names."

Aizawa then stepped back letting Midnight take over the lecture, "I know many of you have thought about this since you were children, but let me just say a few words before I give you a couple of minutes to decide. Your hero name is less than something to call yourself and more a symbol of what you represent when in costume. Do you want Villans to fear ever coming across you? Do you want to inspire hope when people hear that you're coming to save them? That is what you have to decide. Fortunately, you have a few years until you're in the spotlight to figure it out. So how about we give it a try today!"

Midnight clapped excitedly as Aizawa handed us whiteboards with markers, "We'll start presenting in fifteen minutes, and if you having any trouble don't hesitate to call me over for help."

As people started to talk excitedly about choosing their names I stared at my whiteboard with a blank mind, 'How did I not ever think about this?'

It may have seemed implausible but I had never once put any thought as to what my hero name would be. Scratching my chin I thought about what Midnight had said, 'I kinda want both...maybe I should choose something that represents my quirk...could I just use the name of my quirk...nah that's a bit too simple.'

I sighed and ran my hand through my hair in frustration, 'I can create impossible states of matter but can't come up with a damn superhero name.'

I smirked at my own shortcomings as I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone, 'You can't cheat a name creation right?'

"Alright, the fifteen minutes are up who wants to go first?" Midnight asked excitedly from the front of the class.

'Shit,' I quickly wrote down a name on my whiteboard as Yaoyorozu volunteered to go first and presented her name, "Everything Hero: Creati"

Next was Uraraka as the Zero Gravity Hero: Uravity

I waited until almost the very end before I raised my hand and was called up to the podium where I promptly turned my whiteboard around.

Midnight peered over from my left to read my name out loud, "Universal Architect: Archon. That's a rather domineering name for a hero...but based on your record I guess anything less wouldn't be the right match. I approve."

I smiled as Midnight gave me a thumbs-up and I made my way back to my seat, 'Thank you internet.'

---

The cooling salty breeze from the ocean whipped my hair into a frenzy as I stood on the edge of the pier wearing a pair of sweats and a muscle shirt with a large duffle bag hefted over my shoulder.

'I never would have guessed that Miriko would be the type to own an island...but I guess being a top ten hero does come with a sizable paycheck.'

As the rabbit hero said, Nezu had sent the details of my internship a few days after the Sports Festival, which included several contracts ranging from an NDA to a waiver of responsibility meaning I could sue Miriko for any damages I suffered to body or mind.

Seeing that written in legal jargon wasn't the most reassuring, but at that point, I would have paid to get an internship with Miriko.

It took a bit of searching online, but I managed to find a few videos of the woman's fights and a single interview from when she was just starting her pro career.

The interview was only five minutes long, though I imagined that it was scheduled to be much longer. However thanks to Miriko's curt, and abrasive attitude very little of the material was informative.

"So as one of the top prospects for this year's roster, have you gotten any offers from Pro Agencies?"

Miriko snorted and leaned back in her chair with a cocky grin, "Don't know, don't care. Who the hell wants to be stuck as a fucking sidekick for five years?"

The interviewer balked at Miriko's response but they tried to recover, "S-so you intend to form your own agency then?"

Miriko waved her hand dismissively, "Agencies are glorified PR and management teams, if I wanted those I would become a celebrity."

"B-but, Agencies allow Pro-Heroes to-"

"Doesn't matter!" Miriko shouted cutting off the interviewer with a bored look in her eyes, "All a Hero needs to worry about is kicking villain ass and saving the day! Everything else is just fluff."

The interview ended shortly after that and the only other time Miriko appeared on camera in a professional setting was when she made it into the top ten rankings and her decorum hadn't changed a bit.

Fortunately, what the woman lacked in public speaking skills she more than made up for in power. The videos of her fighting online were far more numerous and far more entertaining.

As her moniker and appearance suggested Miriko's mutation-type quirk Rabbit, gave her the abilities of one. Thus Miriko's method of fighting relied on her insane agility due to her powerful legs. Though perhaps powerful was an understatement, the videos I saw showed the woman leaping over skyscrapers, and shattering solid concrete like it was glass. Every villain she encountered met the same fate kicked half to death.

Training with Miriko was probably one of the best opportunities I would have to address one of my most glaring weaknesses. I had started training with Aizawa, but I lacked true combat experience and to be honest, his way of traditional way fighting didn't translate well when I was moving at superhuman speed.

Thinking about the next two weeks I couldn't help but smile in anticipation.

"What the hell are you doing here, and why are you smiling like a damn idiot?!"

I froze as a familiar voice yelled out behind me and I turned around to see Bakugo standing on the peer with a large pack on her back and glaring at me.

"I could ask you the exact same thing," I replied crossing my arms with surprisingly far fewer questions than the situation called for.

"I got an offer for an internship!" Bakugo replied defensively though I could see the gears in her head turning, "...I'm guess you did as well?"

I sighed, "It appears we've been played."

Before Bakugo could respond the horn blasted out from behind me, and I turned around to see a lone ferry speeding toward the pier, "I think that's for us."
