Oczy started his journey with Badeni ever since that starry night in Episode 6, where he first had the thought that: “Tonight’s sky, |seems| more beautiful than usual.” Which in response Badeni replied with: “There’s only one way for us to turn that uncertainty into an absolute — we’ll move the Earth.” Ever since then, they have embarked on a tireless mission to pursuit exactly that. And now we’ve reached the end of their journey. And at a time when Badeni was overwhelmed by the approaching end of his life, to the point of forgetting what he initially told Oczy back in Episode 6 and instead remarking: “The end of life, huh? I suppose we are at the entrance to hell after all.” Oczy stands tall and shows Badeni that even a commoner like him can still grasp the keys to life before the scholar does: “No, we’re standing at the entrance alright, but to the heavens.” “Because Tonight’s Sky, is |definitely| beautiful.” Thus closes the curtains on the heretics that moved me the most. I can’t tell you how much I’ve been looking forward to you reaching their conclusion, this episode has THE most special place in my heart 🥲

2025-09-02 03:20:16 +0000 UTCAs you said, very beautiful how the sky that Oczy was terrified to look at for most of his life became the thing that gave him comfort in his last moments thanks to his new understanding. I'm really struck by the character of Antoni. I think he brings into sharp focus how difficult (logically impossible?) it is to ensure that power is used for noble aims. People have truly wonderful ideas and goals that could even potentially be achieved, but only through the type of power that would be almost assuredly used for unspeakable tragedy. I don't think the show offers an answer to that dilemma unless I've really missed the whole point, but I hope for everyone's sake that one is ultimately possible, even if not in my lifetime.

2025-09-02 02:51:33 +0000 UTCOne thing I didn't really realise until now is how Antoni and Nowak contrast one another. Although both of them are ambivalent towards violence (I really don't think Nowak is all that sadistic, he just truly doesn't see any issues in violence), Nowak is actually principled in a way that Antoni isn't. Nowak genuinely loves Jolenta, and I think that love is what pushed him towards being an Inquisitor. As a mercenary he became acquainted with worldly sorrows which planted the foundation for the monster we know. It was then his faith in Christianity, the idea of sins being redeemed and eternal happiness for those that properly followed the path, which gave him a way of ensuring the happiness of his daughter outside of the broken world that he inhabits. By purging all sin and evil through what he's most familiar with, violence, he ensures the safety and happiness of his daughter. It's fucked up, but the torture he does on a daily basis is rooted in love. Antoni doesn't even have that. I don't even know if he actually believes in God, all he does is scheme in order to climb higher up the rankings and push down his enemies. His methods and principles are both abhorrent, putting him on a level lower than Nowak where you can't even see a possible path to redemption. At least since Nowak does what he does for his daughter, if he knew that his unethical methods made his daughter unhappy (and even indirectly harms her), then there's a chance he'd channel his motivations into a more ethical method. Or maybe he'd double down on violence, who's to say
