2025-04-01 09:48:35 +0000 UTCI know that it was said but not explained properly like it was one or two sentences easily overlooked and I don't think you know exactly what I will say about Otto, it's not really what you said up there even though I never considered what you said because there is like a glaring flaw with your interpretation when people were affected with the white whale's voice they literally froze couldn't stand and ripped their faces with their own hands (due to the extreme pain) a far cry from otto who was still able to talk with Subaru relatively fine about Rem until he pushed him.

And Otto is more susceptible due to the ability he has that was revealed in the season 1 finale. Otto was not in his right state of mind at the time, and cannot be held responsible. It wasn't that he was afraid," he white whale's voice literally broke his mind like it did those soldiers in episode 20.

2025-01-09 04:23:33 +0000 UTCLet’s gooo. I love Otto so much. He’s the best. Best friend, best boy, best love interest lmao. He’s got this normalcy about him, but ends up stepping up and seems to have fun when there’s danger. First with the whole carriage escape from Petelgeuse and now busting Subaru outta jail. Lots more mysteries set up, there’s a ton of overlapping interests that Subaru is really just unprepared to handle, with danger around every corner. And now he’s interacting with new people who aren’t aware of the miasma smell, so we get a repeat of early S1. It’s been so long and a lot of the cast has just accepted that about him. In the novels there’s actually a lot of conjecture around Subaru from the rest of the cast, wondering about where he comes from, etc. I love the horror of the situation where he’s tied up. He’s usually just on go mode, but when he literally has to sit with his thoughts, the trauma he’s experienced really starts to catch up with him. He’s carrying an extreme mental load, even if he’s not showing it, as Otto pointed out early in the ep. It’s honestly pretty sad when he’s laughing at Otto, or more correctly himself, and tears start to fall. It’s a real moment of emotional release that he hasn’t really gotten. And it’s with Otto of all people. Great thoughts as always, super excited for the next one!

2025-01-09 03:26:50 +0000 UTCAt 28:15, sorry to repeat this spiel from other series, but in general, when the title is a Japanese word that's written in katakana, it's because there's something special about the way it's being used. In this case, it's just that cute misunderstanding, where Otto uses the word 友人 (yuujin) to mean a "friend," but Subaru can't even process that and so he thinks 'yuujin' must be somebody's name. So, from Subaru's perspective, the word he heard was just ユージン ('yuujin' the combination of sounds, devoid of any meaning, much like Garfiel's idioms). I don't think I fully understood or appreciated the first time watching this how significant it is that the first time Garfiel saw Subaru and entrusted him with wanting to go through the trial, it had been a long time (relatively speaking) since he had died last.

If he didn't make that sacrifice the ground Dragons would have died with them. And ground Dragons are basically dog horse things of this world. And everyone knows on the internet Animal life especially dogs > human life. So Otto just made the morally correct choice because he is always best boy even in times where it seems he's not.
