This episode is fantastic on all levels and i love it dearly but at the same time there is a level of unintentional comedy in the dichotomy of on one hand having Ekko, kissing girls, and Jayce, getting his shit rocked by a glorified dark souls level. And to the fact that Ekko doesn't choose to stay, while he never really explicitly says so, i think there's a strong sense of "this life doesn't belong to me" baked into his decision. Both that it would be unfair for him to coop this Ekko's life for longer then required, and that this Zaun and these people aren't his Zaun, his people. The ones he feels he has a duty and responsibility to. Which is a level of selflessness that really exemplifies the strength of his character when the world he grew up in and lives in would give him every excuse to be even a modicum more morally grey then he has any right not being. Also the episode kinda implies that Ekko and Jinx are already in a relationship: "trouble in paradise", "can we pretend like it's the first time", which idk kinda makes their kiss scene more sad somehow. If you get the chance you should check out Ekko's animated character introduction on youtube, "Ekko: seconds". It would be cool to get like a mini react for your thoughts on it but if not it's still totally worth watching on your own time. Even though it's only like 3 minutes long somehow they really pack in the characterization for him making it one of my favorite pieces of addendum content in addition to arcane.

This episode is proof that Vi is the true jinx. Literally the whole world is better.

Yeah as great as he is, him taking responsibility for himself by saying that he felt he had given up on how things could be... He's on another level. The fact that he could go through what to most people would be reason to just stop working and live in comfort and have that REINFORCE his ideals to try even harder... yeah he's the man

Part of me feels like it will be a hard adjustment for her! That Ekko is something else XD

Alex G

Thank you, I appreciate it :D

Ekko is so freaking great man. The fact that staying there wasn't even a CONSIDERATION to him. It's like he doesn't even perceive staying as an option. True hero right there. "Be the change" embodied. He just needed a little hope... to be reminded that better was possible.

Miguel

Ekko is so much better than me man.

I would've stayed :( Well at least Powder has her own version of Ekko and hopefully they're happy together.

Love the videos man! Through the past 2 years I’ve randomly binged ur Korra and avatar vids on yt and while looking for arcane reactions I found ur videos again and saw ur patron going back and watching all the full length reactions (including my favorite arcane) has been so awesome! Thanks for making all these!

Ah thank you!

That's amazing

Also from last episode helps to remember that the doctor (singed) mentioned he could create a serum that would keep Viktor from saving Vander. He reacted differently from the rest of the commune to Viktors death and Singed was still inside the building with him when everyone else ran out

Been loving your reactions this season and there’s so much I want to say but will save until you’re done (as someone who really loved the finale). One fun thing about this episode is that Jayce’s journey is a reflection of Viktors. His same leg is injured, he lives in what’s left of the undercity and with a leg brace created by disassembling his weapon he is able to climb out (using Hextech to improve lives as they always wanted) in order to make it to the top of piltover. A very cool parallel. Also loved that this episode more than any really shows a core theme of the show which is that people are not defined just by things that happened to them but by the whole. Powder is powder no matter if she’s Jinx or not she’s the whole of everything in her life. Loved your discussion about her this episode.

"Wanna get drunk and watch American classics" is also a lyric within the show, which was jarring for a soundtrack that is isolated to lyrics from within that universe

Sean D

To add, the first time Powder enters the frame this episode, the reflection behind her is Jinx

Also France exists in this universe simply because the subtitles say ‘(man rapping in French on speakers)’ I refuse to believe anything different

Some trivia: -the dance scene was shot at 4 fps (same time the machine can go back) and honestly it makes me think of how you would normally remember a special event. Just fragments of a memory -while Ekko was in the bubble about to be transported back you can see both versions of him in the pattern -the charm he gives Powder has a silhouette of both their faces -both this episode and the fight on the bridge is episode 7 for both seasons -Also there are hints that Ekko and Powder were already dating in this universe. That’s why he asked if they could kiss “like it’s the first time”
