[EN]SHOWTIMExMONSTERS 2 Dev Letter [vol.63]

Hello, I'm Satoh.

The year 2025 is upon us, and January 18 recently marked the 8th anniversary of the launch of SxM1.

It took 2 years to complete the production of the first one, so it has been 10 years since then. Time really flies by quickly.

At first, I planned to make it in about six months as a short game with a small number of monsters,

but I realized that it would not be an interesting game without a lot of friends monsters and dungeons, so I spent two years to complete it as a full-length game.

From there, I have continued to produce the art book, L2D, and then 2 for a long time, thanks to all of you who have always supported me.

Game production takes a long time to complete, and the production process is a solitary one, so just knowing that there are people waiting for the completion of the game encourages me.

I am very happy to have the support of so many people, including the programmer, translators, and test players, and I am always very grateful.

I will continue to do my best to create good works in the future.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

I am continuing to work on the art book.

The monsters in the second labyrinth are more numerous than those in the first labyrinth, so it took some time, but I am almost finished drawing the settings.

In the second, I drew fewer new monsters per stratum in order to put the monsters from the first in the same dungeon,

but the sea dungeon was completely new, so there are more new monsters in it.

For me, the most impressive monster designs in the second labyrinth are Merman Captain and Deep Angler.

I tried to keep the design as simple as possible, taking into consideration the fact that the monsters are scaled down to a small size on the game screen.

However, the Merman Captain is a monster with a lot of detailed decorations to make it look gorgeous like a boss among a group of mermen.

I have included designs such as fins and scales to give it a fish-like appearance.

I tried to represent Deep Angler as a pseudo-angler using the mechanism of destruction of clothing.

This one is also based on the clothing of an angler or fisherman, and incorporates fish-like designs and patterns.

As an ally, he can enjoy a fishing-like fighting style using the system of transformation, which was added in 2.

The pose of Deep Angler is also an Easter egg for those who know what it's from.

This time, with sincere gratitude for you, supporters,

I drew two "New Year Special 2025"-themed special illustrations for you.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

This is Bai Ze from Oriental Monsters.

As it is the New Year, I drew this monster for good luck.

Bai Ze is a Chinese spirit animal, and an amulet called a Baize-jing guai—tu depicting one is said to ward off evil.

In the game, it is a powerful healer that uses shield heal added from 2, and I think it is especially active in the higher difficulty levels.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

This is Lion Dancer, also from Oriental Monster.

It is said that if you ask the lion dancer to eat evil spirits, it will get rid of bad things and bring you good luck.

I drew this lion dance to pray for good luck in the year ahead.

Lion Dancer is one of those monsters whose impression changes dramatically when his clothes are destroyed.

As a powerful counter user, I believe he will be a reliable and active player in 2.

――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

That's all for this letter.

I'll post vol.64 on around 2025/2/20.

This year, I would like to work hard with the goal of first completing the art book, then further updating SxM2, and even beyond that.

None of this is a simple task, but as always, I will work steadily and persistently.

Once again, thank you for your continued support this year!

Thank you! Time really flies by. I hope I can create many good works for you to enjoy in the new decade. And I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the drawings and interested in them in the game too :)

Oh my! 10 years?! Wow, where has the time gone? I'm very happy you've had such continued success over a decade, Satoh, and that you're still pushing through and creating more and more content today. The art book for 2 is going to be beautiful, I can tell. And the next update sounds like it will be promising as well. Looking forward to it. But it's the drawings you share with us here in each newsletter that are the star of the show, and this month is no different. While I haven't given either monster a lot of play in game, seeing drawings like these certainly inspire me to give them a try. So thank you for sharing their gifts with us. Keep up the great work!

Thank you! Always happy to hear you like them :)

Happy new year and again thank you for all the work! Your boys are all cute!
