When it’s not your native language, you miss the nuances and inflections that a native speaker instinctively knows. Also with English, it flows differently between stressed and unstressed syllables and non-native speakers wouldn’t know how to manipulate those into the flow of the song. Ultimately, translating between languages is much more of an art form, since it includes translating idioms and other wordplay into something comparable, which isn’t always possible. Because Bang Chan and Felix are native speakers, Hyunjin is studying english for university, and Han and Seungmin have a solid grasp of the language (and the others are actively learning and getting better), and because Skz write their own music, their English versions are a lot better than other groups. Unfortunately, with other groups, even if they have native speakers, they’re not allowed to change the lyrics of the English parts to something that makes sense or sounds good. It’s why I dislike the English versions a lot. Domino is one of the few that came out especially decent.

2023-10-10 19:00:29 +0000 UTCThank you for another reaction 🙏 Highly recommend checking out Christmas Evil dance performance and in regards to eng. versions of their songs, I believe I’ve heard that for many of them they write the lyrics first in English so it flows/rhymes in English, and than they translate it to Korean.

When it comes to singing, the way that Koreans use vowels makes singing much easier. Not to say that English isn't a good language to sing in, but for songs that were originally meant to be sung in a language like Korean, it just won't sound right because the way that the words flow in each is so different.

It has one of my favourite songs in there, which is DLMLU, written by Hyunjin, so expect dark sexy vibes. ‘Battleground’ too is one of my fav songs on that album. Also, not sure if you’ve reacted to ‘Scars’, it’s a jp release between Noeasy and Christmas Evel

I also agree with you with regards to the songs being translated into English/Japanese, I also prefer their originals. Oh i also just wanted to say I really like your Channel because I also got into kpop through skz probably a few weeks before you did. So its almost like we are learning more about skz and kpop together so thats been really fun. But yeah thanks for the great content as usual and I hope your moving goes well.

Hyunjin is always great when it comes to acting for an emotional song. Their performance of Domino is one of my favourite performances when the song is not my favourite. Great reaction! Was wondering if you are going to continue reacting to 2 Kids Room. It looks like you forgot of it and I personally miss your reactions

When I first heard them I was in awe of how different they were compared to the usual Christmas songs that you hear every year which was such a refresher. As far as the song Domino is concerned, I enjoyed both versions but prefer to listen to the Korean version. Similarly to why you like the other version better. But I also enjoy listening to the English version of these songs because I am on the Autism/Neurodivergence scale and so there are times when they say something in Korean and it goes over my head or I just don’t get the bar and so I do my own research or hear the English version to gain context which I appreciate. I think sonically speaking they sound different obviously because of the different dialects and translations which is a trip but they’re still good songs. All valid and honest opinions here. Which is why I love your reactions. Good luck on your move! See you soon!! 💕

I think domino is prolly my favorite one that they translated to a different language. But I think with a lot of songs at least with other groups when they do it, the lyrics don’t translate well and the heavy punching lines kind of miss the mark once translated. Also, I think I get used to hearing it in Korean, even tho I don’t under stand it, when they translate it to a different word it’s like they are changing the instrument in a song. Idk if that makes sense. It’s almost like when someone is singing along to a song and they get every other lyrics wrong, it kinda irks u in a way lol. They sound good but it’s a weird feeling to hear it played differently.
