DEEP DISCOG DIVE: Oasis (Extended Version)

All my patrons right here right now

D'you know what I meannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

This one is hot off the presses, I just exported it from Resolve. It's out now here and on Nebula, and assuming there are no issues with copyright, it'll be on YouTube tomorrow. This one was a lot of fun to remake, and I hope you enjoy it!

DEEP DISCOG DIVE: Oasis (Extended Version)

Comments

I was looking forward to this DDD because you always do an excellent job getting me to fairly re-assess music I’ve written off or don’t have an interest in exploring, and I’ve always hated Oasis. I think the Battle of Britpop and comparing them to Blur is hilarious, since I see Blur as consistently interesting and inspiring and pushing the boundaries of their artistry (Damon and Graham are also really fascinating on their own) whereas I’ve always seen Oasis as big dumb rock music. And they are big dumb rock music! But this video not only softened me to them, but is actually inspiring me to check out their later work. Thank you, Mr. Snare!

This is amazing! By the way, some notes/fun facts: Liam actually did sing over a full-on rave tune on The Prodigy‘s „Shoot Down“. And you can watch him find out what anime is here, around the 43-second mark. https://youtu.be/XFQ5bqUzwqU

Amazing video, out of curiosity will the rest of the ddd’s be posted here in some type of playlist? 10/10 video thank you Mr snare

We finally got the return of the ukulele!! Also, really hope this means the Blur redo is coming soon, mostly because I want to hear you properly gush over 13.

NocklesVEVO

Oh wow you're right! Hadn't even realized, that's wild

Mic The Snare

Not greedy at all! I was still whipping them up when I uploaded this, I'll add them to the description here

Ok I'm back and I have to say--your writing always shines in your videos but nowhere is it brighter than in the DDDs, especially ones you're clearly excited about. And that absolutely applies here! This was so fun to watch and I really appreciate the way you try to find connecting threads throughout the story. Made me think of what bands/artists have taken up the mantle Oasis left behind. I mean, Louis Tomlinson is the obvious answer but I'd argue a lot of One Direction's 4th album is built on the Oasis foundation if that makes sense? I have soooo many thoughts on this, maybe I'll even make my own video one day lol For real though, thanks so much for sharing this with us! I feel like the 90s are a bit of a gray area for me since I was born near the end of the decade so it's always so cool to learn more about the time. Also I gotta say--so many of these stories are SO British it's actually kind of hilarious lmaooo like what are they on over there??

A bit of a greedy ask but is it possible to have the link to the playlists associated with the DDDs in those Patreon previews? I always struggled a bit with Oasis but I'm eager to try again with them, and those playlists are always a nice way to start for me!! Either way: great video as always!!

D'YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN??? (Fr do you know?) Hell of a remix Mic the Tom Tom Club, I kind of have a love/hate relationship with this band, but I can't wait for an obscure meme that will cheer me up today. Hope you do a Re-DDD on Gorillaz someday!

If my math is correct, this is your 49th DDD, since the remakes replace the originals in the official playlist. So, the next non remake DDD will be your 50th? If so, I’m excited to see who’ll you’ll cover for this big milestone. (ifiwantedtomakeaprediction,i’dsaybenfolds)

You're welcome! And I totally see where you're coming from. Liam's voice took a bit to grow on me, and even today I gotta be mindful of listening to them for extended periods of time / at loud volumes. I would never say the mixes are conventionally "good", but to me they work for Oasis and the music they make. They're certainly a band that is upfront about who they are, and I think the quality of the songs (when they're good) does a good deal of heavy-lifting.

Mic The Snare

Man, this one is a tough one for me. This video is amazing, and I love seeing people’s opinions on albums that I personally don’t click with. It’s kind of surreal and kind of hilarious to hear you talk so positively about a song, you play the sound clip, and then to me it just sounds like boring rock music. But that’s the wonders of opinions. I’ve actually edited a few Oasis videos (specifically The Masterplan and Standing on the Shoulders of Giants) for a YouTuber named Human Reviews, and him and I share basically the same opinions about this band. I wish Noel was the lead singer; Liam’s vocals are just too nasally and annoying for my taste. I feel like the loudness of the music that you enjoy so much does the opposite for me, where I think it’s just way too much, and even the mixing (“ugh the mix, I hate the mix!”) can just be way too unpolished. Although there are multiple Oasis songs that I actually quite enjoy (I’m a Little James defender, I like Gas Panic!, The Swamp Song is very cool, etc.), I’ve never been a fan of most of their output, but I love watching these videos and trying to understand what people like about music that I don’t click with. Thank you for the Re-DDD! Very excited to see who you review next.

Is it even a Mic the Snare video if we don't get a cameo from the greatest chord of all time, F Major 7? Great video! I can't wait for the pool noodle incident to render the last few minutes of the video obsolete.

Matt Evans

so weird hearing you mention King Tuts since its only down the road from me and that ive been there countless times for gigs and also photo ops

Bob Nick

Ooooh an EARLY birthday present? (Jkjk but I do appreciate the timing 😌) You sir are fabulous! Alas, I can't watch this for a few more hours but I'm super excited to learn more about the guys who heavily inspired my favorite One Direction member lol. Full thoughts later!
