Why Joker 2 Is A Better Musical Than You'd Think (Extended Edition)

Hello everyone! As a lil late-week bonus, here's the extended cut of my Joker 2 video from earlier this year. It had previously only been on Nebula. Shoutout to Patreon member Turst for the suggestion to upload it here.

This one was v fun to write, but oh my GOD was it a pain to edit. And I'm saying that as someone who talks about music!!!!!! YT's copyright system is usually accommodating when it comes to movie scenes, but I genuinely couldn't use more than 3 seconds at a time without getting a claim. I'm still happy with how it all came out, but man I don't think I'll be talking about a movie in a video again for a good while.

Quick Updates 6.24.25

Hello everyone!! Hope you had a good weekend, and if you're based in the northeast US, I hope you're managing to not get cooked alive in this heatwave. I was out in Toronto this weekend for a future video, and oof it was rough at times. Thank goodness for the air-conditioned Tim Hortons on every corner.

Now that Oasis is out in the world, I've begun preliminary listening/research work on the next DDD. It definitely will not be the next video, I've got a couple other vids I want/need to do first. But I'll provide more updates when it's closer to happening. I'll just say, it's on an artist I've seen a LOT of requests for.

Next up on the YouTube docket is a vid about mental health in the live music world. I got to talk with two folks from a remarkable non-profit for touring pros. It's gonna be a great, super-rich video.

After that, I still wanna do a video on the Mario Kart World OST. I was also thinking of doing another songs of the summer ranking video, though I gotta admit... that one would be depressing as hell. I didn't fully realize it until Todd in The Shadows' new video on that Alex Warren song, but oh my gosh the pop charts this summer are in dire straits.

(And if you're curious, the Toronto video won't be out for about a month for Reasons™)

Oh We're Never Getting Rep TV Now

Hey everyone! I'm nearly done editing the next DDD, but before that, I wanted to get a quick vlog out about Taylor Swift getting her masters back, and the biggest impact it'll have - me having to revise my video schedule. Enjoy!

Hello everyone! Hope your week has been going well. Last week was a whirlwind for many reasons, but this week has been quieter thank goodness. I don't have any new videos coming out this week, but I did wanna hop in and share updates on a variety of things.

Next up is the new DDD. I'm gonna start editing it over the weekend. Hints for it should also be out this weekend too. I'm aiming for a release next Friday. I hope I get it out by then, because I'll be off to Toronto for that weekend.

Speaking of which - I'm going for Toronto for a future video! I can't speak on it much more at this time, but it's definitely a wildcard topic.

After the next DDD and before the Toronto-type video, I'll be releasing a video centered on that live music non-profit I mentioned back in like... April? After multiple delays, I finally sat down with them for an excellent conversation. They do great work raising awareness about mental health for touring professionals, and I'm excited to share about that with you.

I also very much wanna do a Mario Kart World video, because oh my GOD the soundtrack rips. For real, if you haven't heard it yet, go listen to this Dire Dire Docks rendition. I promise it'll make your day.

What Even IS Audio Mastering? (Early Access)

Hope y'all are having a good week! Here's my latest video all about mastering. This one has a very special guest — Adam Ayan, a Grammy-winning mastering engineer who's worked on albums by Lana Del Rey, Father John Misty, Paul McCartney, Shakira, and sooooo many more artists. Sitting down with him was a blast, and I think you'll get a lot out of our conversation.

trying something new today — the internet's been abuzz about Sleep Token and their new album. lots of folks in my circles saying it's not good, but frankly that made me even more interested to listen lol.

but this time, i decided to film my first listen. honestly it was a fun time! and tbh i'd recommend you give Even In Arcadia a try, even if it doesn't click with you. at the very least, check out Emergence, the title track and Damocles.

hey everyone! hope your week is going well so far. i've got some very cool news — later this week, i'll be interviewing a mastering engineer for the next video!

audio mastering is a topic that's often shrouded in mystery, even to folks who work in music. but this engineer has mastered albums for Shakira, Father John Misty and Lana Del Rey. he's a seasoned pro, and i'm sure our convo will shine more of a light on what mastering is, how one does it, etc.

i've got my list of Qs for him, but i also wanted to see if you had any questions you'd like me to ask him? feel free to comment them below, i'll try to throw in as many as i can.

happy sunday! i've got another exclusive video for you all. this time, it's all about money, big dollar bills, cha ching, and all that and all that. i've been thinking about money a lot lately for a bunch of reasons — going full-time, the sociopolitical state of the world, the new Mario Kart. all things of equal seriousness!

but i wanted to condense my thoughts down about money and how the music business may be affected in the next year or so. i'd love to hear your thoughts about all this!

I Quit Music Streaming For A Month AGAIN (Early Access)

hey everybody! hot off the presses (DaVinci Resolve export screen) is my latest video — a sequel to my CD listening experiment, but this time, i listened to only the radio for all of Jan 2025. this video is out today on here and over on Nebula, and it'll be out on YouTube tomorrow. it was a lot of fun to make, not just with doing the experiment but also with editing the video itself, and i hope you all enjoy it!

DEEP DISCOG DIVE: Arctic Monkeys (Original Version)

hi hi! i said back on Tuesday that i planned to reupload older videos that had been affected by the YouTube copyright system. first up is the Arctic Monkeys DDD from alllllll the way back in June 2022.

heads up: i'm tagging this as a "director's cut," but this is not a radically different video to the one currently on YT. the only major difference is the Brianstorm section at the 7-minute mark — that part had to get cut on YT bc of a copyright claim.

i'm very glad i never had to cut the Teddy Picker part, bc the Crash Bandicoot sync-up is one of my favorite lil observations in any video.

i did also keep in the bit at the start promoting the 2022 charity merch run, primarily bc i still get a kick out of the "shirt, another shirt, etc." part. (though, just so i don't confuse anyone, there's no merch run happening right now.)

whether you've seen it before or it's your first time, i hope you enjoy it in its originally intended glory!

progress is… progressing on all the videos i mentioned last week. editing for the radio video should start soon, and i’m aiming for a release early next week. i’m also hoping to film a teeny bit more outdoors like the Gillette bit from the MJ DDD, but New England is getting rain for this entire week so we’ll see.

FUTURE EXCLUSIVE VIDEOS

i really liked making the Better Man video, and you all liked watching it, so i’m gonna keep making more of them! I should be filming a new one sometime this week.

in tandem, a few people shared a great idea: reuploading older videos that got hit by YT’s copyright system. in some cases, i’ve had to mute or cut out parts with offending audio, such as:

• The Bjork Medulla video from back in 2019

hey everyone!!! hope your week is off to a good start. i’m personally still coming off the release of the Michael Jackson DDD — that video had been in the works since late last year, and it’s great to finally have it out in the world. even with all the difficult subject matter, i still really enjoyed making it and i hope you all enjoyed it.

after that is a pseudo-sequel to my CD listening experiment last year. back in january, i listened to only radio for the whole month. i’ve been sitting on notes and footage from that for a while now, and i finally wanna get it made.

i’m also doing an interview piece soon, sorta like the NPR Tiny Desk video i did late last year. this one will be focused on an advocacy group that provides live sound professionals with mental and physical health resources.

and lastly for now, the next DDD. i promise this one will not take as long as the MJ DDD lol — i’ve started proper pre-production on it yesterday, and i’m currently aiming for a release sometime in mid to late June. i chose that timing because it’s right around the time the band kicks off their first tour in over a decade wink wink nudge nudge :)
