Yeah, I agree, especially as a Classic Series fan. I remember especially in the days of the Fifth Doctor, with so many companions at one time, it could be awkward to give them all something to do, so often they were off-screen for chunks of the story or everyone was paired up having separate experiences, but usually only one or two people would be WITH the Doctor most of the time. I tended to get a bit annoyed by that -- at least in the sense that I wanted MORE time with several of the companions (such as my fave of that era -- Nyssa), but often the stories fell short on that. :(

Thought I'd continue looking at the depiction of dyspraxia in the programme, as I actually am dyspraxic, through the lens of Ryan. Now there's the focus again on Ryan having difficulties with ladders which is good. Consistent with the previous episode. Now the robot shooting scene (where Ryan yells about playing Call of Duty) is a bit odd, from my point of view. One of the most common symptoms of dyspraxia is having relatively poorer reaction speeds so competitive gaming, which at this point is the main selling point of Call of Duty, is often less than desirable due to our innate disadvantage. Obviously only speaking for myself, i find games like Call of Duty extremely difficult, if not impossible. Not only does the game call for pretty quick reactions to what's happening on screen, the console versions also bring in the dreaded dual analogue stick control scheme. Trying to operate two analogue sticks is very hard for me to do. Now for the actual shooting. Hand-eye co-ordination being impaired affects firing a gun in a pretty fundamental way. It just will naturally take longer to get the aim sorted. The weight of the gun could be an issue too. Dyspraxia, due to when it first develops, leads to weaker muscle growth. For example, many dyspraxic people have back problems and joint issues due to this. This being a fictional gun, maybe it's very light but it was being used by robots so I'm not convinced on that. So i guess it's sort of a mixed bag here? Good consistency in terms of the stuff with ladders, very odd FPS/robots scene.

I agree that this episode seemed to get me used to this doctor, the new stuff. I too loved the new TARDIS desktop. We are now getting closer and closer to the last episode I have seen. Eventually, I'm gonna have to watch the new stuff so I can keep up with you. Can't wait to see your next reaction!

As a character on "NYPD Blue" once said back in the 90s, "That's why they make ice cream in chocolate AND vanilla." I've often thought that line ought to be displayed on fandom-related sites like one of those "I'm not a robot" checks, so fans would have to see it and click on it before commenting.

The intro is really classic, fits well and brings back nostalgic feelings I know some people love this TARDIS consoleroom To me, its the worst they have ever done (I like the Tesla one) but this nope... My altime favourite is 8th Steampunk TARDIS

Thomas88

What I liked about the "lost my keys" line, is that it shows that Clara's stupid blackmail attempt from "dark water", was never going to work even if the doctor wouldn't have been able to resist those sleep patch thingies.

I'm so glad you liked Graham, he's my favourite of the 3 but I really enjoy having 3 companions. I think there should always be at least 2 if not 3.

Alisa Loudner

Actually it reminds me that I could win a set of steak knives! (Aus reference that only Those of a Certain Age would get😉).

I agree. It's like I enjoyed the Book of Boba Fett, I enjoyed the story and depth it went into of his survival. But people online are like it only got good when Mando showed up. Nobody is forcing you to watch a show you dislike. There are plenty of other shows available to enjoy.

Also, it's not so much that HATED Graham, I just get annoyed with him as I think he gets the most character depth and, as a result, he tends to be the emotional focus more than the other companions and, worse, the Doctor herself. To me, it became the Graham Show while he was on and when you're giving all the attention to the white guy and mostly ignoring the two companions of color (one of whom is the first we have that's South Asian) and the first female Doctor, I honestly get a bit salty. It feels like diversity, but on a very surface level. And to this day, I still feel like I know Graham more than any of the other three main characters (again, even more than the Doctor herself) and it makes me sad. Yes, we learn a bit about Ryan, but it's seemingly always in relation to his feelings about Graham, like he's just an accessory to Graham and not fully fleshed out as a character in his own right. And don't even start me on Yaz. Yeah, IDK. 🤷‍♀️

Yep! A creepy clown!

So, the Doctor 'doesn't like guns', but is fine taking out all the SniperBots with an EMP. Oooookay. P.S. And yes, the Doctor has used guns in the classic series, though it's often never their first choice of weapon. They've blown up Ogrons, Daleks, Cybermen, etc. I give the anti-gun thing we've had since Tennant a slight handwave as it could be tied to trauma from the Time War, but there's so many times (esp with Jodie's Doctor) where she gets mad about guns, but does (or tries to do) something just as destructive or whatever and that's sold to us as 'better'. I find it rather annoying, but that's just me. 🤷‍♀️

Nicole Mazza

As much as I love this era and Jodie's Doctor I'm not a big fan of this console. I like the colours and the crystal theme but the overall console seems very bare with hardly any actual controls. There are bits of it I like and it certainly gives me some ideas for the console I'm building but yeah it's my least favourite.

Jade Ellis

It's heartening to know there are some fans who may not like this era is much as i do, but who don't resent my enjoyment of it, and don't mock my enjoyment, trying to make me feel somehow inferior for enjoying something they don't particularly like. Although i don't completely agree with your criticisms i can understand your point of view and i won't argue with you for having a different viewpoint to me. If we all liked the same things it would be a boring world wouldn't it? Unfortunately, i think you're a rarity in the fandom these days, there too many angry and spiteful fans out there now.

mark saunders

Whenever Tim Shaw is mentioned in this series, it reminds me I should watch Car S.O.S. Stupid, I know.

Gjermund Higraff

also i believe graham (bradley walsh) played a villain in the sarah jane adventures

It is always a pleasure to be rewatching these and seeing it all new again through your eyes, Paula. You two make these all new again. Thanks.

I'm glad the Gals like the new TARDIS— I don't but I'm never upset when people like things. (My own reaction when I first saw it was "Hey! who turned out the lights?") The episode overall reveals (to my taste) the distinctive problems I've seen with Chris Chibnall's writing. Other fans who've disliked his era have other complaints, but mine is that the episodes tend to be overcrowded with too many parts that don't quite fit together. Each episode of this era has been chock full of truly wonderful moments, but they bump up against each other instead of fitting together. First, we have the race with its despicable sponsor (or operator or whatever he was) putting contestants through an obstacle course of lethal dangers. But then the hazards aren't obstacles lined up for the bloodsport-race, the planet's condition is a mystery that needs to be solved. So which of those two things is the story about? Then we have the sniperbots for a while, and then the mind-reading killer rags ( a brilliant monster concept that deserved a whole episode, not just a quick drive-by in an episode filled with other things). A story structured around a series of obstacles works just fine, but not if the obstacles demand to be stories in their own right. Each element was really good in itself, but none of them got the full attention they deserved because they were all forced to share a single episode. Anyway, that's been my reaction over the latest era of the show. If the Gals like it better— well, as I said at the start I'm never upset by people liking things. I'll enjoy their enjoyment, which will be a plus over what I was able to get from the episodes on their own.

So glad to see Paula loving the new TARDIS 😍

Sufyaan Kazi

I love the entrance being three sides of the police box with the console room as the fourth wall

Mark Ten

To be fair, she didnt fall out of the Tardis, it kicked her the 'F' out! And them dumped all of Capaldi's books and stuff into space. The Tardis was clearly having a hissy fit about the Doctor blowing the console room up every time he/she regenerates and was not having anymore of the Doctor. Took her a while to cool off.

Mark Ten

The outdoor shots of this and the episode coming up next were filmed in South Africa.

Scribbles

It took me a lot longer to get used to the new Tardis than I did the new Doctor. I think I felt the Tardis was too dark inside, and we didn't really get a good overall look at it. Like in one wide shot. Also it looked to be of similar design to her sonic, which was based on Stenza technology. A big stumbling block for me was why the Tardis would have been rebuilt on Stenza technology. I got over it, though. I'm ok with it now. :)

I can picture Capaldi hate-watching antiques road show: "That

Yay, this is a favorite of mine! Though most of this era is also a favorite of mine, honestly.
