My Favorite Chee

Asha: “Don’t be sad, Khay! I’m happy because that means I get to spend more time with my favorite chee!”
Khay: * Chirps! *

This is a continuation of a gift sketch a great friend of mine 0laffson made last year! ^^ I felt bad for my poor Khay and had to make a part 2 to that :P This originally was going to be a sketch too, but I liked the lineart too much, and had to finish it haha. They are too darn adorable XD

Khay (cheetah) and Asha (melanistic serval) are both characters of mine from my comic’s original world! I draw Khay quite often, but hardly ever draw Asha XD They are both quite different characters with really different backstories. Both are owned by the same cheetah character (Lue’maar), and they have grown quite close over time. This drawing is set towards the beginning of their relationship ^^

Also more casual nudity :P Who needs clothes when you are at home haha. This is probably in Khay’s room off of Lue’maars room in the Cheetah palace. Lue’maar is the son of a ruler and a powerful noble, and Khay is his chief slave and holds quite a bit of wealth and power himself despite not being free. But I’m sure, if Khay was given the opportunity, he would leave it all just to live free with Asha! Maybe someday...

I feel like I have to occasionally explain it, but my original world has more realistic sizes for the different species. Servals are far smaller than cheetahs in real life, and likewise they are in my world as well :) Asha here is around 3.3ft tall, and Khay is around 5.3ft tall. Asha is also quite a bit older than Khay. Here Khay is around 24 and Asha around 30. But they don’t mind in the slightest XD

I have not really drawn Asha much because I have always been scared of drawing black fur XD It has always been really hard for me to get right, but this last month I drew 2 characters with black fur for commissions, and forced myself to learn haha. I think I understand it a lot better now, and really love how Asha looks here :D

I’m really glad I decided to color this in the end XD It was just going to be a finished sketch like the messenger cheetah I posted a while ago, but when I reached the shading stage I was too tempted to color it XD It took quite a lot of work, but it was with it this time haha. I wanted to go for a more airy and spring-feeling color theme with more soft and indirect lighting. Also I wanted to try out a finished drawing that still has the lineart, yet a painted far background. I love the look of it here! Will definitely keep doing that with my illustrations! Quite happy with this piece overall :D
