in regard to the friendly fire accident. they did and do care. the pilot made a mistake and men died. I know watching an American movie about Vietnam War was extremely hard for you. My hat off to you for your courage in watching it. As someone who is retired military, in my case, Navy, I have respect for the other countries soldiers and sailors too. they would do their job as I did mine. I hope you can get the meaning of what I'm saying.

Yes and when America pulled out of the war quite a few southern Vietnamese did not want to stay because they did not want to live under communist state so they fled to USA. I actually have known some Vietnamese I worked with for a number of years talk about it how their family fled to America during that time. Interesting to see how we are taught about the war in the west compared to what they are taught about the past war there. Im sure there are differences. Bottom line USA was there because it was the cold war and they were trying to prevent the spread of communism. They were not there to take over the land just to help one side of the war against the communist north who was supported by China and Russia. The Domino theory it was. They fought for same in Korea. The thought was if one country there becomes communist then every country in the east could follow. Which in the end never happen. just North Korea , Vietnam and China are communist nations. and actually Vietnam relationship with USA has been peaceful and developed into good relationship over the decades.

Yes I agree. I understand their emotion but sometimes emotion clouds understanding and judgement. What happen in that scene happens in wars more than often. Friendly fire. The radio operator calling in the air attacks made a mistake and called it in too close or the pilot was a bit off course too. All types of crazy things happen in war. I bet something these ladies do not know is that Moore later in years went back and visited that same battleground and met the Vietnamese leader of that army and they talked and actually embraced each other on that same battlefield.

Like Piranther said before. Vietnam was in a sort of civil war. So no one was good or bad. Russia and China was helping the north while the USA was helping the south. That's why the US ended up in a war against the North Vietnamese. Not against all Vietnamese.

Great Reaction to what is a tough movie for you to watch

christopher brown

Lost of respect to you both. This is a difficult war movie to watch. Specially since you are from Vietnam. I remember watching it for the first time as I didn't have any thoughts about Vietnamese people. Since then, I ended-up listening to Vietnamese pop music. So much so that my favorite female singer now, is a Vietnamese. I then started to learn more about your country and culture and that is how I ended-up seeing Tien and Lan for the 1st time. Then seeing you all 4 watching the movie ' It's a Wonderful life' , made me think just how much, good hearted you are. I wish you lots of success and lots of love in your life. You are entertaining us so I thank you very much for this. As someone said before, I watch this movie now without seeing any good or bad guys. With as much compassion for Vietnamese and American soldiers who went thru absolut hell in the Vietnam war.

The tactic which later came to be called 'Broken Arrow' was first used during World War 2 by an American artillery observer who called in fire on his own position which was being overrun by German troops. His men survived, but he was killed. He was awarded the Medal of Honor. During the Korean War in 1953, 700 Canadian troops called in fire on their position which was being overrun by 5000 Chinese soldiers. The position held and the Canadians survived because they were in deep trenches and bunkers while the exposed Chinese soldiers were destroyed. It's one of the ruthless calculations of war which is why war should always be a last resort.

I'm just thankful that Vietnam is a peaceful prosperous society today and the old hatreds of the past have been left in the past, and we can see young women like yourselves growing up healthy and strong.

What an emotional rollercoaster! You ladies look absolutely exhausted at the end. What I really like about We Were Soldiers is that while it shows the brutality and chaos of war, it never really delves into the truly dark aspects of the Vietnam war. Both sides are portrayed as armies going into battle against each other, without either side being depicted as the bad guys. I think in the scene with the Brocken Arrow, where the American bomb hits their own soldiers, Yuri's judgment of Colonel Moore is a bit harsh. The colonel cared for his men; it was simply an "accident" due to the chaos of the battle. Since Yuri and Ran have now challenged themselves with two tough movies, Saving Private Ryan and We Were Soldiers, it might be time to watch something lighthearted again. That's why I'd like to recommend What Women Want (2000) for a reaction. It's a lovely romantic comedy starring Mel Gibson (who plays the main character in this movie). That was, as always, a great reaction, Angels.๐Ÿ’œ

During world war 2, Japan invaded Vietnam, which led to the rise of Ho Chi Minh fighting against Japan. After Japan lost, he set up a government in Hanoi and based it on Russia and China's communist ideology. The rest of Vietnam was based on Western ideology, capitalism. The north invaded the south and the US came to defend the south.
