The beliefs that have driven the hatred towards transpeople in recent years are not based on science - despite erroneous claims that they are - but on fear - Fear of that which they do not understand and actions that their lack of knowledge and education create. So here I go, yet again. Talking about This Stuff!

I ... have a friend .... who was operated on repeatedly since babyhood right into their early teens, against their will, and it was deeply traumatic. It marked that person for life - physically and psychologically - and it's not over yet. And guess what - nobody cares. Nobody. A thousand bucks is a lot here, you won't have problems renting or even buying property here, and while the national healthcare is crappy and waiting lists are long, it's there. What's most important is that there's some chance for progress for women and queer people. We've had hatred and lies spread by the national TV back in 2015-23 culminating around 2020, we had them ban abortion which sparked massive protests and petitions against it, we had police repressions, we had Kremlin-backed fundamentalists of Ordo Iuris meddle with the law but fail. Now we are over it, and this year we're voting their president out. Hopefully the new one will be the liberal one, and if so, it's time to clean up the mess the Lawlessness and Injustice party left, and make some room for change... Plus, this spring we're gonna have an astronaut on the ISS, Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski - the second Polish man in space!

"Let's pick perhaps the least understood and smallest sliver of the LGBTQ+ community and pick on them." That's what they did. Remember the NC bathroom law fiasco? Tell me, before that came about had you EVER heard of a trans person attacking a little straight girl in a public restroom? No, of course not! But, that was the argument, and the haters lapped it up. My question: Just where did trans people pee before the law went into effect? None of it made any sense. Now, the MAGA-ites and the Evangelicals had a new enemy, and the cash started filling the coffers of the politicians supporting anti-trans legislation. It is all politics, power, and money. The question now is how do we fix this mess that FOTUS created?

2025-02-03 04:55:14 +0000 UTCYou said it all, Fran. I can't add anything. I will tell you that there are many of us in the LGBTQ+ community who are techie-type engineers, myself included. I have gay friends in the broadcast engineering field. So, we are out there, and we share your pain. Many of my friends are married to same-sex spouses and are genuinely worried that they may see their marriages dissolved. Some have spouses from other countries. What will happen to them? All of what you have said about kindness, empathy, and basically the Golden Rule, now being considered a weakness, is not what this country is about. We all know where this is coming from. It is the clinical definition of sociopathic behavior. I have been a gay activist since the 1970s. I worked hotlines, did the marches, wrote the letters, worked Capitol Hill - all that. Never have I seen anything like this, and never so quickly, and from such a position as the White House. I have no solution to offer. I hope there are enough people to protest and do the campaigns against all this, just as we did for so many years. That we have to do this all over again is beyond disappointing. The only saving grace I see is that young people - Millennials, Gen-Z, and Gen-X types are not in favor of any of this. The MAGA crowd is old. Attrition is their enemy. As each election cycle passes, more of them die off, and more young people register to vote. Let's hope they have the same spirit my generation did in the 1960s to take on this battle and get things back to normal. Ultimately, that is the only path I see. I hope that can happen before too much more damage is done. Thank you for this video. I am going to send it to my friends.

A lot of conservatives just really think they know best, because they've got a divine plan of how things are supposed to be. But then there's also the power else just continuing with the wedge strategy which has worked pretty well for them so far. I'm any case, it's despicable and I really hope that they've finally overplayed their hand and will get shut down soon.

2025-02-03 03:40:44 +0000 UTCI didn't mean to imply trans-haters don't exist at all, more that this sudden massive wave of them is pretty much entirely artificial and not some natural reaction. Maybe that's obvious, idk, but I've definitely heard people argue that transpeople are so "different" that people fear or hate them by default just as some kind of automatic reaction to the unfamiliar, and I don't think that's true at all.

It does not surprise me, however, that a conservative think tank basically chose to interpret the results the way they did. I would like to believe that education could counteract the current political climate, but I'm personally pessimistic about it. Conservatives are hell-bent on making sure their kids are never taught to treat all people with compassion and understanding. We can see that in the fear-mongering that has been going on regarding transpeople teaching in schools.

2025-02-03 02:01:16 +0000 UTCOne thing I remember reading was that the current fervent anti-trans hate train was effectively dreamed up by a conservative think tank focus group that got a bunch of random voters in a room and threw out various things to see their reactions. And the key takeaway from it imo was that people didn't actually react *negatively* to transpeople in those focus groups, they reported that they just didn't know enough about them to have an opinion. So what the think tank took away from that is "oh, here's somewhere we can swoop in and pretty much tell them what to think about these people they otherwise have no real opinion on, and use that to drive voting" and thus here we are. It's depressing of course, but the silver lining in my opinion is that it kinda hints that people aren't just *naturally* hateful in this way, it's not some kind of organic reactionary response at work here it's a wholly artificial hatred, and hopefully that means it can be counteracted.
