Save The United States! Save The United States!

Yes, the country United States does not really need saving, just a good long vacation.

Well... the marine life will love it, as will divers, but yes... much cooler for everyone else in the dock.

I was glad to see this wasn't a political video.

Quite sad for it to end up as a ghostly relic at the bottom of the ocean. I love your narrator voice. πŸ™‚

So many great and historical ships need love and attention. While philanthropy can get new projects started and even completed, these days such ships need to become self-sustaining business enterprises to ensure their future in the face of varying sources and levels of donations. My personal favorite is the NS Savannah, the world's first nuclear-powered merchant ship, which also looks to be headed to its end. I visited it twice in the 1960s, and it was a significant factor leading to my own enlistment in the US Navy Nuclear Power Program in the 1970s and my pursuit of an engineering degree in the 1980s. However, so many quality experiences are available online these days. While they lack the depth and immediacy of a physical visit, they do come with a significant burden (time and cost). Meaning any such facility must provide experiences that go far beyond the mere preservation of a large object. Such as by making it fully functional once again. If the SS United States were to be restored to service, and offer specialty cruises several times a year (while spending the rest of the year as a pier-side exhibit), I'd be very interested! But its present dilapidated state seems to be too far gone to permit reasonable restoration. Building a new ship would be faster and cheaper! The classic "Greyhounds of the Sea" are few, with the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA presently keeping the flame held high. I've toured her twice as well, and I may be due for another visit!

It's built as best as they could! Keeps off the rats.

Ah, built after the open air nuclear tests (or rather, during). So no dismantling it for low background radiation steel.
