The DJI Problem

I guess this is just another case of Buyer Beware. I got mine sorted... but you might not want to go through the same hassle.

The DJI Problem The DJI Problem

DJI is one of a number of companies that are being banned in the US by both the federal government and some state governments. Security, privacy, corporate espionage, and etc. are all reasons for these "cold war" reactions.

Ugh. Why do things rarely function as completely standalone hardware these days... comes back to the "right to own" issue. I hope it works permanently for you, looks like a really handy device to have.

Haven't watched the video yet, but I'm betting it's a similar problem to what I had 3 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtqBbaVNI0c

Out of interest, as I'm in the UK, I checked for the DJI Mimo app in the Samsung App Store, and it's there. Maybe it won't install ? I didn't try.

Safety! Security!

Nerdful Things

It looks like there are legitimate security issues that are the basis for Google removing the MIMO and other DJI apps from the play store. Those issues are available to see on independent security research websites. I'm in agreement that if you can get the device working without installing anything on a personal or company owned device, that some loss of function is better than the major security issues.

What about firmware updates, downloading videos, or other control? Does that need a phone, too? Is the Android issue a lifetime problem?
