Building Skylab (1972)

This amazing 16mm reel gives an inside look at the assembly of Skylab and highlights the various different sections that were manufactured by different companies across the US.  We see the modifications made to the launch complex and view astronaut training for extended space mission durations and get close up views of some of the experiments and consoles in Skylab.  A true gem!

The remnants of the McDonnell Douglas plant which made Skylab is still there but a shadow of its former self. Since Boeing bought them so much has been disassembled. The plant entrance can be found at: https://goo.gl/maps/vU7iRiaFitqJrDys7 There's a Boeing office across Seal Beach Blvd. from this location.

While in high school I remember being totally fascinated by Skylab and Apollo-Soyuz, though neither mission few before I left school.

It was good to see a young looking Pete Conrad. And I've always wondered what was in that ring of cabinets near one end....

I had no idea the interior of Skylab was so roomy!
