This Is New York (1960)

This delightful 16mm film is faded but retains its charm.  So much has changed about New York, and yet other things remain the same.  Adapted from the book of the same name by Miroslav Sasek, this film was produced by Weston Woods.

Yes, gorgeous cartoons. I WANT one those cars exactly as it's drawn!

Ymir the Frost Giant

Let's not mention the W either - or the double E. Anyway, I thought witches were supposed to be black or white.

Ymir the Frost Giant

Oh sure. He's helped me with film stuff.

Simple but charming artwork. Another Gem Fran.

Heh. I watched it in the early 70s when it was syndicated in California with Bob McAllister as the host. "Exercise, Exercise!"

Oh Fran, this was wonderful in so many ways! I grew up in NYC, I watched Sonny Fox on his show "Wonderama" (he died only this year, at age 95) and everything this kid narrating said just gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. The New York City that I remember is long gone. Thank you for sharing this with us! Your film archives are just full of incredible finds!

Sonny Fox!

This is simply wonderful. “The more things change, the more they remain the same.”

Mike O'Dell

That was simply delightful and I loved the music, that always just teased and threatened to burst into Gershwin's An American in Paris :)

Stefano Landi

I noticed the narrator has a French accent - he rolls the r's. The British don't pronounce Greenwich the way he did!

Am I right in thinking that you might be friends with Jay Schwartz & his Secret Cinema?

Love this!
