Respectfully, You are overwhelmed, no surprise but you do have many subscribers who rightfully regard you as a unique repository for the knowledge base of a time in history which bridges an unprecedented transformation to binary based engineering (with lots of ‘black boxes’) from originally analog approach to novel issues , or even a mixture of the two. In my opinion that takes a huge opportunity away from those who value critical problem solving skills, as electronic ‘tinkering’ with challenges serves to apply a mixture of the tangible and the abstract connection mind set (can you tell this is a bit of a philosophical saw for me?) Human nature at its foundation is, in my opinion, (for what it is worth), connected to a physical universe which will be one day be found to be analog at its core. This premise is offered humbly to those who are in a position to offer assistance to support a person like you, who has labored in an outpost of the engineering world, to preserve a (joyous) way of thinking, practicing and engaging with a world of interacting using both ( imperfect example: 10 years from now : Question : “ dear parent, what engineering designs are examples of a direct use of physics , my teacher mentioned carburetors as an example.) Answer: -dead silence-, what’s a carbon radio?. In a way It might be said that you are setting your sights too low. What about a McArthur foundation grant? Even a modest one might be a valuable stepping stone. Other foundations as well of course. For many reasons, I consider you a precious resource: a custodian/curator of a knowledge base, which the human race will need to reconsider the importance sooner than it believes. Of course I am a dreamer and watch too many futuristic scenarios of where we are going. Just as a last plug, there is a museum in Amsterdam, Holland, (also London, U.K.) which has a collection of ‘memorabilia’ relating to eradicated tropical diseases which is referred to in pertinent journals routinely as a critical reference. If you ask people for a loan, even just on trust, you will get far more money than with a gofundme. I'd give $5000 if you considered it a loan to be paid back within ~20 years with typical interest rates. I wouldn't even require any written contract because I know you are a good person and would take every effort possible to pay it back. And if something happened and you couldn't pay it back that's on me. I'm sure there are many people like me and you wouldn't need that many of us to get enough to buy the space.

Wow, I sure wish I had good answers immediately for you. You are an IEEE accredited engineer and that wasn't supposed to ever happen without a college degree. This problem is still a gaping open wound, but you've survived on your own this long and you will find a solution to this. If I had the appropriate property, I'd obviously supply it to you for free, but I'm powerless in that regard. I guess I can't really say I have had the trials in life you have had. The whole transsexual issue is a dimension of difficulty I don't know how I would deal with, but I understand the "small town" mentality of fearing anything "different". I think we all as patrons can come up with something for you if we focus our efforts. I think this is a shock to all of us as well. We want the best for you, but we have to be creative. I don't have a good answer off the top of my head, but I'll be thinking about your situation, as all of your followers will be. Don't underestimate yourself! You've come this far and you have a lot of people who want to help. Keep us in the loop as you explore you options. You do have options, even if they don't seem in focus right now.

I don't have much to offer here that you haven't already heard a million times before. And I know you probably won't ever read this, and that's OK. But I'll say this - I live in western Massachusetts - the Connecticut River valley - and this is an area that's very welcoming to LGBTQQIA+ people! And it's not cheap compared to the "real" country (out west or something) but it's way more country than city, but with city attitudes. The real estate market is just as fucked here as it is everywhere at the moment, but if you're ever looking for a place where you can be safe being who you are, and still find reasonably-priced (compared to cities!) houses and warehouse space, this is one option. And there MUST be other places like this around the country. That's all. I'm SO sorry to hear what's happening to you.

Again for the "interim": A lot of your videos could bear a revisit where you talk about how you view the subject today! Incidentally You had already been discussing if Fran Lab should change. I am wondering for quite a time if the big size of FranLab holds you back! I know it is a stretch to say the least, but what if you find a tech museum that takes your stuff? In the last few years you had become more visible! There was the Apollo project, your recognition as an engineer! My heart goes out to you!

Instead of just GoFundMe, how about buying a place by raising share capital, so everyone who donates owns a small slice of the building? You could retain 51%, or if you need more capital, you could sell shares on a buyback scheme, so you start off owning maybe 20%, but can climb back up to 51% + as you make vids. Or, are there other Youtubers etc in your region and up the same creek? Maybe you could club together to buy a place to share.

I totally get where you're coming from though. I recently traded San Francisco for rural Oregon, and I can understand why you might want to avoid rural Pennsylvania. And the whole thing with the home loan was fraught, in just the same way. I had to come up with a co-buying arrangement, and even for me to pony up the down payment required extra steps and hassle. Heteronormativity is baked into the banking system and housing policy. The people who benefit from it just assume it works the same for everyone. They are largely unaware how much it discriminates.

I'm a residential landlord (small-scale via death of family members) and I make it a point to provide for my tenants and honor leases. I have to sell one property (it was my late uncle's) and we will either find a buyer who will keep the tenant, or we will wait for the tenant's lease to expire. We will not break the lease.
