Project Egress: FranLab Mission Log 7

Number seven in the Project Egress series has me going for the finish in a very time intensive way - hand finishing all the parts and getting the fit of all the components correct.  Some unexpected snags had me spending days making adjustments painstakingly by hand.  Almost there...  stay tuned for the conclusion in number eight!

This is pretty awesome!

You have beautiful skills. I'm very eager to see the result. πŸ˜€

I've watched videos from some of the other participants who have 3d printed the parts and my fealing is - I could do that! But there is no way I could do what you are doing. You are working at a much higher level. Please post as many videos as it takes.

David Peaker

And of course, keep your spirits up! We all love you. And those who don't, you don't really need to bother with or care at all.

You can fine tune brass/steel bearings with Cif Cream or similar abrasive cleaning fluid. Apply, move or rotate, clean thoroughly, dry, apply tiny amount of suitable lubrication and install. Lubrication must be compatible with the context, like wood here, of course.

THIS is how you "work it"!

really enjoying all the detailed videos. super cool project. This has gotta be the shining star of the whole egress project!

The guilds still exist, and they are exclusive of all women even today.

Fran Blanche

I'm really enjoying this project. Easily the most interesting part is your chosen materials.

Howard Simons

I'm in love with these videos. Your determination to produce this precision spacecraft part in materials that would be more familiar to an 18th century mariner is a beautiful articulation of the project's mandate.

Andy Ihnatko

The old guilds would recognize this as a masterpiece. Of course, it takes time and can not be accomplished on a schedule. Thank you for the opportunity of watching your efforts, craft, and artists eye in action.

Kendra Akin

Well that is something for /r/woodworking for sure ;) Seriously though it does make you wonder how complex engineering could be just using natural materials. Fascinating.

This has been a journey, I am really enjoying seeing a real engineer at work, and using a wood media to do it! Amazing.

Robert Dicken

Never thought drilling wood was so intricate

Wow, hint of the crazy angles hinged and articulating! Adam Savage knows who to pick to make the various parts. Thank you for investing time to explain the process including learning new solutions and techniques.
