given your arguments my new head-cannon is that the whole (good place) afterlife is one that is meant to help people become better versions of themselves. that the whole thing might be a trial to help individuals become ready for existence in the afterlife. the idea of the first season is that the four people were perfect for each-other in that they would lead to the most amount of emotional distress, and maybe the idea that the four of them being in a sort of equilibrium is correct, but only to the point of them making each-other better.
