Rebel Duet (May 14, 2024)

v0.8 is now roughly 40-50% complete, with a release expected some time in June.

As Annestria (or Ann, as Valerie likes to call her) will be staying at the protagonist's house, I've chosen a few different outfits and hairstyles for her to alternate between, depending on the situation. Although a ponytail will be her main style, you can also expect to see her hair down or in pigtails from time to time.

A couple days were spent designing a map system, which will unlock early in Act 3 (v0.9). The player will occasionally get free days, in which they can interact with a heroine of their choosing, or see events involving other locations and characters (e.g. the adult shop or Lucius). This will be one of the main ways to romance the girls, and there will also be some optional sexual events to enjoy.

The last two images are a work-in-progress, but should give a general idea of what the system might look like. Free days will be split into two segments (morning and afternoon), and clicking on one of the character/event portraits will begin the scene. If one of the scenes is sexual in nature, there will be a heart icon next to it, making it easy to understand at a glance. There will also be some events involving multiple characters, which will be especially appealing for players on the corruption path, or those who are looking to start a harem!

To be clear, this is not intended to resemble a sandbox. All scenes in the map system will be optional side events, with the vast majority of the game continuing to play out in a visual novel format. Overall, I felt this feature would be a nice way to give the players more freedom (and make Rebel Duet feel like more of a 'game'), especially as it will be launching on Steam soon.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm happy you like the idea of the map system. If players enjoy the feature enough, I could certainly expand it and make more of these scenes. :) Rebel Duet is still a very long way from being finished, though. After v0.9 will be v0.10, then v0.11, etc. I probably won't use the v1.0 tag until the story is fully complete, which would be at least a couple years from now.

All is looking great. I was surprised to see the new map and the icons on it. Your explanation is fairly clear, that you want to add this feature mostly for side quest purposes. I find it daring that you want to introduce a feature that is so different from the game so far at such a late stage (assuming you are planning to call V 1.0 a complete game). I keep my fingers crossed that the development will succeed and go smoothly. I could see myself liking such a "sandbox-like" feature very much given the characters that you have introduced so far. In fact, I can see myself pleading to have such a feature available as much as possible besides the VN main story......But hey, let's not get ahead of ourselves! Anyway, Good luck with the development efforts!
