EPISODE 01: Operation Flying Dutchman 43

“That bitch played me.” Fumed Baram spinning to kick the seat right next to Ruby, startling the confused red head. “I should have snapped her neck just to be sure.”

“Calm down, this obviously didn’t go our way,” says Madam Z placing a hand on Baram’s shoulder. “The package is still out there but something like that won’t stay underground for long, and when it surfaces again … we’ll be there.

Luna sulks on her seat. Blaming herself for the failure of the mission and wondering what she should have done differently.

Suddenly she takes note of the red head. Arms up above her head, cuffed to the equipment rack. She remembers being terrified of this fierce woman when they first set foot on the Night Crawler. But now after hexing her and reducing her to a confused husk, she couldn’t help but to feel a sliver of guilt.

“What will happen to her?” she asks the other two women.

Madam Z turns her attention to their prisoner.

“She is a former CIA agent. A good one at that. It’s unfortunate that she got caught in the crossfire and witnessed our operation. It’s also evident now that she was hexed even before we got there. So that’s a matter of concern.” She explains. “We’ll take her with us and give her memory therapy. She’s not the enemy after all.”

Baram reaches out and unlocks the cuffs, allowing Ruby to slump to the ground. Her eyes still in a daze. She has a hard time identifying friends from enemies. She has a hard time identifying herself. Her memory and perception warped three different ways every time she tried to query her own mind.

But then Luna drops to a knee in front of her. Her face full of kindness. Lips spreading into a gentle smile. She runs her fingers through Ruby’s red hair.

“We definitely got off on the wrong foot.” She says extending her hand. “My name is Luna. Undercover agent for the Agency. You might not believe me, but my job is to save the world.”
