TLS 0.75.3 Released!

I'm opening up this build to $1 backers! I think it has been pretty reasonably polished by this point, but maybe a broader base of players will give broader feedback so everything can be properly balanced. Thank you all for your support. ^-^

TLS 0.75.3

- Further fixes and balance.

- Maltava has contributed a custom script that helps some players with initial volume settings. I've never experienced this problem, so I can't verify, but I hope it will help some.

Here's what I posted before about the new additions, edited for additions, and you could also read the version history to see all the content.

1) Check out the new combat balance

There is a blimp event in the teleportation room that will grant endgame saves all the added skills (except synergies). Please play with these and tell me how they feel, as I would really like to get the balance settled on these before the optional dungeon update.

I don't expect people to play through the game just for this, but for the hardcore folks who replay repeatedly, tell me how the new stuff feels. When new skills are added, the new LUK balance, etc. I obviously didn't have time to replay everything, so there could well be unintentional issues with the new balance that should be fixed.

2) Try the new prologue

As mentioned, I revisited the prologue and polished up some things. Please take a look, and if you have suggestions now is a better time than later.

3) Enjoy the new dialogue system

Whatever you're playing, take a look at the new dialogue and enjoy. ^-^ There's a chance that specific characters/expressions might be missing busts or have errors, so note and report if you see any.

> - There is an issue with the text in options menus and the character bust images, when the game gives options for the player to select and the text is very long. Only example I could find is the final Xerces conversations. It looks like the text is being drawn in front of the underlying bust image, but behind the 'face' part of the image, so some of the text is being cut off by the character's face. Right diagnose. Ended up updating the code to fully hide busts when choices take up more than two thirds of the screen width as showing them under choices was quite ugly even with layering fixed: https://github.com/Rachnera/tls-experiments/commit/930b8f6c5ae7d8736095ad638fdb28fad7b80077 Didn't exactly have time to test it extensively for side effects but should be a safe change in theory.

Rachnera

This bug should be fixed in the upcoming build!

Sierra Lee

So I just started playing this game the other week and when I try to do Aka's Request before going to the Fucklord's Tower and upon getting the blade forged my party get teleported to the roof of a building and I get stuck there.

Karnath

She gets the skill, but it's set as Special instead of Unskill! Good catch. I recently received a gray Qum, so that should be fine next build. Only issue that might still be outstanding is the problem with long menu options. Hopefully Rachnera will see this.

Sierra Lee

Hi, probably last of my feedback for a while, but replayed the final section and found a few things. - In the first section with Vhala, game says that Vhala learned 'Harem Tactics' but she doesn't actually get the ability. - During the final battle, there is a scene where Qum helps out Robin and Qum gets a grey color hair image, but the bust image is still using the pink bust for Qum. - Every other updated character bust for the finale seemed to be working. Upgrade Carina, upgraded Neranda, upgraded Uyae, diadem Trin, upgraded Nalili, more that I'm forgetting about or didn't see.

Lamsey basically answered everything. I'll just add that – while we did readjust a few positioning in the last days, both for better reading comfort and impact – I am convinced that a few more busts would be so much better with a shift of few pixels left/right/up/down... But also I am personally at the moment as likely to be a good judge of what to change as would be a writer who just wrote the final line of their text and is now in a state of mind where they aren't so much seeing what's on the page than what's on their mind.

Rachnera

Lamsey - Lol, yes, please don't short-change Yarra's cleavage, the world needs to see it. I do think for some characters the vertical positioning doesn't matter as much, because the art below the face is fairly uniform (like Robin, Hilstara, Janine) or the image isn't emphasizing the chest (like Riala, Ginasta, Carina). Some others have a good vertical cutoff that I'd consider preferable, where the entire 'bust' of the bust image is visible (like Aka, Nalili, Qum). Honestly Lynine is kind of right on the line in this regard, and Elleani might need to move up too much to make it worth it, but Yarra is the one that I think should shift back to the 0.76.2 version (even if it puts her face slightly higher up). Her image is very much about showing off her chest (and frankly so is her personality) but the new image placement cuts them off at the bottom of the screen (even if only slightly). Sorry if this is too much feedback over like 10 vertical pixels, I do really love the new bust system and wanted to provide my perspective on it. I appreciate all the efforts that have gone in to bringing this to life and will be happy with whatever you all decide is the best presentation of this. Thank you. Sierra - I'm glad the feedback helps. The new abilities do add fun new dynamics to the combat, and I'm sure there's ways to use the characters and abilities that I haven't uncovered but others will.

Innocuous

Hey, thanks for providing so much detailed feedback! You may be the first to replay through so much, which did produce some potential changes. The Incubus Prison was very finely tuned, so reducing the impact of LUK on that might be wise, for example. Many of the issues for the bust system aren't really my domain, but fortunately Lamsey is already here. Regarding the new skills and their balance, you won't see wild changes, but you have convinced me to tweak some things. The most dramatic is that I have moved around when a few of the abilities are learned, which I hope will make them more useful in actual play before endgame. I tried to distribute them with an eye for the game overall, but benefit from getting your thoughts while actually playing. ^-^

Sierra Lee

Thanks for the bust system feedback - I think I can field most of these unless any of the others want to chip in. > No busts for top-of-screen text boxes This is in Rachnera's wheelhouse, but it's deliberate as far as I'm aware; the bust images are designed to extend above the text box, so there isn't really a good way to show them when the text box is at the top. Maybe they could be shifted downwards so the face is centered within the text box and the rest of the bust is cut off at the bottom, but there's probably not a lot of difference between that and just showing the small face, and it's rare enough for the text box to be shifted that it's probably not worth the effort IMO. > No bust while Simon's mostly naked This is intentional because we don't currently have a topless-Simon bust. > Allue/Alluon Sadly, their character busts are not compatible with their facesets, so we'd need to draw two completely new busts. > Implevon This is because he sometimes uses a generic faceset file. The only way to fix it would be for Sierra to manually change every line using the generic faceset file to instead use his dedicated one. Stark has the same problem, but he doesn't have a bust at present so it doesn't really matter. > Luanell As you correctly guessed, this is the same issue - she shares a faceset file with generic NPCs. > Feremina We don't have a bust for Reletima, so yes, this is intentional so as not to signpost the eventual choice ahead of time. It looks like it wouldn't be too hard for me to make a Reletima bust, but that's a long way down the priority list. > Doom Tanurak Thanks, good catch. I'll add this to my to-do list. > Yarra/Lynine/Elleani positioning Given your choice of characters, I am going to go ahead and assume that "more interesting larger character image art" means "majestic cleavage" :-P. In general, we're trying to keep the faces centered around the top of the text box so they stay close to the text and don't jump around between characters, but I'll see if there's any room for adjustment for these three. I'm glad to hear that you think it's an improvement in general, though. > Rare busts Good to see these are appreciated, thanks - some of them have taken an ungodly amount of fiddling from Rachnera, Decarabia and myself.

New character abilities feedback - Starting off, I played through from a new save through Chapter 5 at the end of the Incubus War. This is split between the 0.75.x versions, but I don't think any of this changed between these versions. I used a route for near max XP and tried to record when I got abilities, but I missed some of them and some more I still hadn't acquired at this point. I haven't taken these into character quests or the end game yet. If anyone else is interested, the first new ability is one Simon gets in the Simon Route in Chapter 2, and other abilities trigger through leveling starting in early chapter 3. I tested the abilities I didn't get naturally on practice orcs. - I'm going to organize them by character SIMON * COMMAND (from Esthera in Simon Route in Ch 2) - Probably the single best new ability, it adds so much tactical variety. Used it all the time, and kept thinking of new interesting things to do with it. I expect this will change recommended strategies for a number of fights throughout the entire game. * INCUBUS ASSAULT (around first tower section in Ch 4) - This is okay, it does more damage on average then Precise Strike (for more MP, but also random target selection), but I usually don't use Simon for damage. Probably gets some use but easy to ignore. * INCUBUS PRESENCE (return to Stineford in Ch 5) - This one is bad. The high SP cost means that you can't use it in the first few rounds of combat, but it's an AoE attack that typically you'd want to use at the start to clear out groups. YARRA * HAREM MISTRESS (Zirantia Ch 3) - Generally found it harder to find opportunities to use the non-Simon swapping abilities, although I do know there are sections in the end game where it will be helpful. Usually if whole group is together then I'll just use Simon's Command, and if they're split up there's not enough members to do a swap. Still, I like having these abilities spread to different characters. * APPRECIATE HAREM (Incubus War Ch 5) - This ability is fine, I'm just surprised by how late it gets acquired. This feels like an ability where the level requirement could be extremely low (like even in Chapter 1 somewhere, which ends around level 22) AKA * LETHAL INTENT (3rd Arclant War Ch 3) - Just a damage bump, found it to be a little underwhelming. Aka seemed to like to miss after I used it, and I think the damage bump is like 20%. If I was at all concerned about conserving MP I'd never bother using it. * UNITE THE HAREM (Return to Eustrin Ch 5) - Attack buff for the party. Having this be both limited and with a long warmup really limits the usefulness of the ability, plus I typically want Aka attacking or apply debuffs, not using a buff herself. QUM * HAPPY TINGLE (3rd Arclant War Ch 3) - Great ability, feels like a corollary to Yarra's Appreciate Harem ability but can start using this way sooner. And like the Yarra ability could be moved to be acquired even earlier. * PROTECTIVE HUG (sometime in Ch 5, forget to note when) - Honestly not sure if I ever got to see this in effect. I'd use it and then enemies wouldn't attack that target, or I'd be unsure how much damage was being reduced. Not sure what the intended use for this is. HILSTARA * ACTIVE DEFENSE (Elven Forests Ch 3) - Feels like the more user friendly version of Qum's Protective Hug, being Instant and not Limited. Only reason I didn't use it more is because I'd forget about it, but it seems very good. * VANGUARD (Return Eustrin Ch 5) - I like this ability, the buffs last longer than typical and it's a bit of everything. * HAREM TACTICS (not acquired, would be sometime after Incubus War) - See Yarra's swapping ability. ROBIN * AMBIENT MANA (Elven Forests Ch 3) - Personally I think Robin is overtuned, and this ability shores up the one potential weakness she had: running out of mana. It feels awesome to use because you no longer need to be concerned with preserving mana (or getting it from Yarra's ability, etc), but now there's even less reason to use the other casters. * DARK LANCE (Thenoursan War Ch 4) - Didn't use this much, generally seems better to use a lance of an element the target is weak to, plus the cooldown means you need to be using other lances anyway. CARINA * HOLY BURST (Zirantia Ch 3) - Great ability, lets Carina get some punches in but very long cooldown feels appropriate. * SHINING BARRIER (sometime in Ch4) - Good ability, Carina can't replace Qum as the offensive buffer, but she can do a little. * DIVINE INTERVENTION (not acquired, would be sometime after Incubus War) - See Yarra's swapping ability. VARIA * CHANNELED LUCK (3rd Arclant War Ch 3) - A generic steriod to throw on before using Blade Dance. Hard to tell how much of an impact this is having but I used it as much as I could. * DESTINED BLOOD (sometime in Ch 5) - This is okay, I like having Varia get her own health sustain with all the health costs in her abilities. Saw some use, but often by this point I'm building the party around buffing/healing Varia so she can Blade Dance every turn. * DESTINED ENDURANCE (not acquired, would be sometime after Incubus War) - Having it be instant speed is very good in instances where Varia is too hurt to use an ability ALTINA * ATMOSPHERIC JOLT (Zirantia Ch 3) - I love this ability, feels like a great way to test if an enemy is weak to lightning or to pick off low health enemies before they get to go. Altina is so far behind Robin in power that I feel this could be changed to a cooldown of 1 and still be fine. * GATHERED HEALING (Second Gathering Ch 5) - This ability is fine but it's just kind of boring, and comes so late that it might never be used. I'd honestly prefer another ability like Atmospheric Jolt. I don't know if having one of each element (fire/ice/lightning) would be too much, or if it's possible to have them share a cooldown, but instant speed elemental attacks feel like they could be Altina's 'thing'. NALILI * HIP CHECK (Dungeon after Stenai Ch 4) - Instant speed ATT debuff is very powerful, feels great to use. * MOTHER'S LUST (sometime in Ch 5) - Another SP bump for SP users, but this one costs a turn to use and is acquired very late. I used this one more than the others because I don't usually have Nalili with an SP Preserve item, so I usually spend the first turn building SP anyway. Still, think this would be nicer if acquired much earlier. VHALA * UNHAND (Erosian Crisis Ch 4) - Instant speed cleanse is amazing, although by this point there's a lot of status resist in equipment to go around. I don't believe this works on sexual status effects, any chance to make it so that it does? * BALANCED NATURE (Lustlord's Palace Ch 5) - Amazing ability that gives Vhala some MP sustain, unfortunately not acquired until after the sections where it would be most helpful (those being the long tower dungeon after Stenai or Great Thenoursan War in Chapter 4) (Stenai tower dungeon, Vhala ~level 61) UYAE * Aura Changes to instant speed - Uyae feels better to use now, but is still a second class party combat member. * MAGICAL BURST (Erosian Crisis Ch 4) - Not entirely sure what I'm supposed to use this on, or if it's the healing spells, then how it's different from Healing Burst. * HEALING BURST (sometime in Ch 5) - See above. * PHYSICAL BURST (not acquired, would be sometime after Incubus War) - Seems like the best one, but acquired very late. RIALA * COMBAT TELEPORT (Erosian Crisis Ch 4) - See Yarra's ability. * PATIENT LUST (Dungeon after Stenai Ch 4) - The long warmup on this makes it not very appealing. * CYCLICAL FIRE (Second Gathering Ch 5) - I'm honestly not sure how this is different from 'Fire'. Does about the same damage. GINASTA * HEROIC ECHO (not acquired, would be sometime after Incubus War) - Feels weak, damage bump is like 20% (if that). Not that much different from Aka's Lethal Intent, but Aka is a more useful character to start with. * SHADOW SLASH (not acquired, would be sometime after Incubus War) - Free damage is free damage, but neither ability is enough to warrant using Ginasta. LILITH * RANDOMNESS (not acquired, would be sometime after Incubus War) - I like this ability. Lilith is already a meme character, and this leans into it even harder. * SEXPOCALYPSE (not acquired, would be sometime after Incubus War) - I actually waited for the entire warmup to see what this did. I deserve that.

More Bust System Feedback - First is a general point, but periodically text boxes appear on the top of the screen instead of the bottom. These are all working as before, but they don't take advantage of the new bust system (just reverts back to face sprites for whoever is talking). - In Chapter 2 in the Simon route, Simon reverts back to the face sprite at the start of the section, and becomes a bust again after Nalili arrives. If this somehow isn't intentional, please consider leaving it because I really like it like that. - Allue/Alluon have larger character images but do not have a bust. - Implevon has a bust, but during the Bloody Spire event dialogue he only uses the face sprite and not the bust. I didn't find this true anywhere else. - Lady Luanell also has a larger character image, but does not have a bust. I think that her face is also used for a number of random NPCs, not sure if that's the reason she didn't get a full bust (although I think the same is true for Implevon because there's a number of generic imp faces around). - Feremina bust isn't working on her intro, although again I wonder if it's intentional because the bust starts up after Reletima gets chosen by the Doom King (and Feremina gets to be in charge of Stenai) - There is one line in the second gathering where Tanaruk pretends to be a 'white Doom King' to mock Simon. It's using the new bust for the (black) doom king and trying to merge it with the white face and it looks wrong. - Next, I do like the work at normalization of the heights/eye lines for the busts. However, as a personal preference, I think a few of the busts got shifted too far down. In particular, I preferred Yarra/Lynine/Elleani in the x.2 version over the x.3. I think they could be moved back up, because comparing where eye-lines rest for different characters, all three of these are now on the lower end of positioning, and they have more interesting larger character image art that is being cut off with the lower position. - Finally, I want to get an appreciation for some of the more rare character bust images that I found. I still haven't looked through the character quests in Chapter 5 or the end game so I'm sure there's even more that I'm missing. - Zelicia - Wedding Simon/Janine - Lingerie Riala - Sage of Ghenalon - Fucklord's male Trin guy - Xestris darker color (the whole bust matches the face tone, it's great) - Color inverted Tanaruk

General - The change to the volume on startup is a fix I never knew I needed. I set the game volume to like 20%, so there's always an explosion of noise before I load in, and now it's level to what I set it at. Thank you. - Some older character abilities could use an upgrade to their language in the description to match new skills. For instance Yarra's 'Shared Fantasy' description says (One use per battle.) instead of (Limited 1). Here are the ones I found. - Simon: King's Aura - Qum: Orgasmic Thoughts - Qum: Cumdump - Qum: Shiny Thoughts - Yarra: Shared Fantasy - Yarra: Sexual Mana - Yarra: First Slut - Yarra: Combat Fantasy - Also I noticed that the generic RPG maker face sprite that Simon was built out of was replaced, and I appreciate that. - LUK changes didn't seem to have a significant negative impact. There's a few optional fights that were more difficult than I remember (like optional ward fight in Aka's Route in Ch 2), but that could also be me being bad. One section that might need another look is the optional boss gauntlet at the end of the Incubus prison section. I would sometimes randomly miss the Lamia and die, or get crit for a bunch of damage and die, and it didn't seem likely to happen, but you need to get through 5 fights in a row without anything going wrong in any of them. - In the Chapter 3 Order of Yhilin dungeon (for the Academy Trials), the area typically doesn't allow party swapping, but the new party swap abilities can be used to make changes to the party lineup. Personally I kind of like it like that, but it might not be intentional. - Lastly, in the portraits system, I think the old Doom King image could be replaced with the new doom king bust/face.

Hi again, some more reports on the new 0.75.3 version, further notes on the bust system, and feedback on the new abilities. Putting them all in response posts because they get a bit long.

Petrichor

tried redownloading and same issue occurred. one piece of info that may or may not be important is that I'm running the game through a wineskin on my Mac. bc this release didn't have an RTP version, I also installed that separately through wineskin. have had very little problems with the regular RTP release up till now, and am only having this issue with the Sylvan region. I just went and downloaded the 0.74.7 version without RTP and ran my current save through wineskin just to test, and everything loaded perfectly normally! if it is some weird Mac thing, then don't waste time trying to fix it! not worth your time lol will paste the error_log.txt in another comment.

Petrichor

If still relevant, could you copy-paste the content of your error_log.txt file in your TLS folder? It should contain more context for that error.

Rachnera

I can't duplicate this one! Does it occur every time for you? Does it still happen if you do a fresh download of the newest version?

Sierra Lee

>Found another similar one, same version. Janine's painting quest. Wendis' alternate form painted before it's occurred in-game. Can you or someone else check in the new build? I thought I fixed that one.

Sierra Lee

Getting the error: "Cache:106:in `initialize': failed to create bitmap, RGSSError" upon trying to enter the Sylvan region from the teleportation chamber, in this version!

Petrichor

EDIT: It's possible the link Riala was referring to was the teleportation circle in the bedroom rather than a communication link, in which case it's just a little ambiguous rather than a continuity issue. Found another similar one, same version. Janine's painting quest. Wendis' alternate form painted before it's occurred in-game.

NotEnoughSand

Ah, the issues with creating quests non-chronologically. =/ However, reviewing the scene, does it explicitly say Simon uses the private link? If this can be shrugged off as contacting her by other means, I'm okay with it.

Sierra Lee

Minor continuity issue. Still running 74.6 so apologies if this was already squashed: Iris's quest in Ghenalon, clothing store. Simon uses private link with Queen Fheliel even if the scene with Fheliel that ends with Riala proposing the private link hasn't been played yet.

NotEnoughSand

Many of the new skills appear mid-game (via leveling), so I hope those new wrinkles add to your enjoyment!

Sierra Lee

Just finished my first playthrough before this update, working on a more optimized one now, will be sure to give feedback on the lategame balance when I get there.

ActicLacid

In the new version, this should be fixed in the event when you enter, but no worries. ^-^ The issue is that the game thinks you are still on the top level when you're actually on the bottom. It's set properly by the starting event, but you should also be able to fix it by walking up and down the stairs.

Sierra Lee

Hi! Loving the new maps! I did notice when revisiting Withered Mountain in chapter 2, the tunnels and rope bridges you added seem to have broken collision. I actually saw this RIGHT before this update, so I'm sorry if this one fixed it already!

Kitara

I'm glad that you have enjoyed it so much overall.

Sierra Lee

Dangit! Fixed on my end, thanks.

Sierra Lee

TLS became my favorite RPGM title (and probably just favorite western "adult" game) from the very first time I tried it years and years ago on f95. I've restarted and played to the end of that version's content countless times, but I'll admit I've always kept a save right after the prologue (pretty much as soon as you take over as Simon) to avoid having to replay it. As much as I adore the rest of the game, I never liked that shift from the narration referring to Chosen as "you" to then controlling Simon for the rest of the game. Still, visually, its a great improvement. I can't believe how far the game has come over the years.

DZ

Looks like the new changes make it impossible to start Altina's request in chapter 5. She's floating in the void above the map north-west corner.
