The line about it not being a choice to do the right thing....Mal is, for me, the epitome of chaotically neutral, lawless good and his metric for what's right or wrong or justifiable is moment to moment or based around his code of honour. And that, THAT is one of the things I love most about him-- because it feels more honest than just rigidly sticking to your guns. There's a degree of flexibility there that I don't get to see too often in central protagonist/leader types. Loving the hell out of these reactions bro, Firefly's my all time fav show so this is truly a gift đđđŸđđŸ

To this day people still talk about it being one of the most unfair cancellations in sci-fi history. You're going to love it, and of course watch the movie at the end! Btw, going with a friend as the "two by two hands of blue" guys was one of my all-time favorite Halloween costumes đ

You stop the show to make significant comments. Other reactors talk over and then miss substantial & significant dialogue. But mostly, I like that you already appreciate how well written Firefly is. Believe it or not, the episodes get even better.

2025-04-30 17:02:13 +0000 UTCI have been WAITING for you to post another Firefly, like refreshing the app hahaha "The Train Job" is the episode Fox ordered to replace the pilot because they didn't like its vibe. It's why Mal is so much lighter/sillier here than in "Serenity" and why the villain of the week is so stereotypically-evil-Russian. This is the first one they aired, so people missed a lot of the nuance of the characters' relationships and circumstances and led to a really weak takeoff for the show when it first aired. IMO it takes about 3 more episodes for them to really hit the balance of this new tone with what they originally were going for, and then it's honestly fire through the rest of the series. Still a fun episode though! I'm really stoked the pilot did so well for you on Youtube-- wasn't sure how it would go because it's so old now and Whedon's heyday is well and truly gone. If you pull a decent community on there from these, Buffy is Whedon's biggest hit and might be worth starting, but it's LONG and season 1 is truly not very good. Dollhouse might be an easier second step but it never hit the same kind of audience as Firefly or Buffy.
