Tutorial - horse shoes, step by step + free brush

Some of you have requested a horse shoe tutorial, and here you go!
This is the way I do it, feel free to pick up a trick or two.

First tip of this tutorial, and in general when drawing smaller details; use a big canvas! The bigger canvas, the better it is for making details.

Step one: draw the base. Keep in mind that metal aren't always completely grey. In this particular piece I have used a blueish grey. I have included the colors I have used in the pictures, feel free to use them as a color palette when you draw your own shoes!

Step two: create a base for shading. I have used my regular "my most used shading brush" which I have provided you with earlier. The brush was set to 50% opacity.

Step three: blend out the shading with the color picking technique, or whatever blending technique you prefer. Don't worry if it doesn't look perfect, it will all come together eventually.

Step four: time for highlights! Fill in, with the same brush and opacity as previously.

Step five: and again, blend together!

Step six: go over one more with the highlighting, with an even lighter color. And again with blending together.

Step seven: go over the shoes with the provided metal brush, with a white color. Depending on your canvas size, you have to figure out what size and opacity you need on the brush. I have a canvas size 3000x3500 with 200 resolution. I used brush size 50, and opacity 80% on this particular brush.

Step eight: last step, time for depth and shading. Shade on the hoof around the shoes.

Making the shoes during the tutorial took me approximately 10-15 minutes. This was only made to show the progress, you can always get in more details and make it even better with patience and time!

I have provided you with the metal texture brush if you want to use it!

Hope this helped,
hugs from Cath ❤
