Overall, I do like this show. I just hate that they hinted at what was really going on with Donghee and Hotae without making it clearer. Hotae's mother is just someone who took care of Donghee after learning about his trouble at home. So he feels indebted to her. He actually likes Hotae, and Hotae is aware of this. Donghee doesn't want to disappoint Hotae's mother. That's what he's afraid of.
