"Legacy" (Metalheadz) song walkthru [VIDEO]
Added 2022-12-23 10:46:16 +0000 UTCMerry Xmas – I’ve got some viewing for all you DNB headz for when you’re wildly downing that eggnog!
Here’s a walkthru of my Metalheadz song, Legacy.
It's the song of mine that's got the most plays (if that matters at all).
I’m going thru the project and showing what’s happening, why, talking a bit about what I think makes a Metalheadz song, the importance of different song sections etc.
Class in session, so grab a classy brew and start making some notes.
Have a great rest of 2022, Xmas, and NYE ya'll!

Yes I’d say that’s the usual way: trying to respect the original break. I’ve layered a few times, or switched elements for sure.

2023-07-03 06:19:16 +0000 UTCIs this your usual approach, or do some original breaks require layering with MIDI to get sufficient weight and snap?

2023-07-03 06:14:46 +0000 UTCNo, didn’t do any layering; just EQ

2023-07-03 06:08:19 +0000 UTCThanks for the breakdown Fanu - very insightful. With the main Billy Clarke and Funky Mule breaks, did you layer kicks and snares in MIDI to provide more weight and punch to each break, or did you process them in some other way to get them to have punch and presence?

2023-01-05 08:23:22 +0000 UTCYo! I don’t really use the groove pool. I like to program my own patterns. I gotta do more drum chopping videos and I will :)

2023-01-04 20:45:39 +0000 UTCLoved this video dude! It was very interesting to see how you put tracks together and to get insight into your thought process. One question though about how you chop breaks. I saw in an earlier video that you chop each individual hit and then program them how you want. Do you use groove pools or swing to help keep the vibe of the break or is everything just programmed to the grid? I've not been chopping breaks that long and the method I've been using is to essentially put start markers in the sample so each sample could be playing the snare plus a shuffle. I think I saw a video where you had been experimenting with this method recently. Anyway, I'd be interested to hear yours or anyone's from the group's thoughts on this.

2022-12-24 16:30:39 +0000 UTCI should check out Klevgrand! Btw I don’t usually recommend HAAS as it’s usually bad news for mono compatibility (I have a Patreon post on that). I use Soothe for taming harshness – that’s what it’s great for. Thanks for checking the video and have a great holiday period :)

2022-12-24 14:35:47 +0000 UTCCloser to understand the music. Thanks Janne. Good to see you're using D16 :) Unfortunately still some of them don't support M1. I like Syntorus pretty much for background stuff. For space kind of thing i'm hunting for Haaze2 from your north collegues Klevgrand :). It has pretty much interesting Haas modeling features. I already have their Boorsta and it comes very handy for percussions. BTW i see you use much of a soothie2: drums, and also on "zorni...." peice. Curious to know what it's purpose there ? I know that it has to be used carefully because it can flatten the sound pretty quick. Is that you capture resonances or sth. else it does there ? Cheers.
