GameJam attempt & other prototypes

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OuXaDNqA4A

I made an attempt at creating a game for a gamejam a while ago.
It didn't didn't go so well, but I still learned quite a few things.
The video is the full gameplay of the finished game.

-----

Quite a few things went wrong in this gamejam.

But mainly, I blanked on the theme, which took quite a bit of time until I had something to start.

And I could not envision how the progression/upgrade system of the game would work... And that made me not work on this project at times for lack of a clear objective.

The overall systems are okay, and this could be turned into an okay game with time and a bit of reword. But that would still take quite a bit of stumbling around.

So I'll leave this game as it is, and try to make something better in another jam.

I'll try making small games every now and then to improve.

Not sure if I'll make videos about them. But I can at least talk about it here briefly.

Prototypes I've done in the last month

I've started using Godot to make a few apps for random stuff.

As an example, I've made a timer app that display the time as the window name(so I could see the time left while minimized).

And when the timer is done, it jumps out from a minimized window to the front of the screen.

Desktop farm

Then I started playing with transparent windows in Godot.

I was trying to make a farming game that you could just leave it hanging around in the desktop while you do other things.

Things went well, and I managed to do have the basics of it working.

You can drag the 'board' around and put the game anywhere on the screen

Clicking on the farm plot speeds up the growth until you can collect it
(blue thingy means you can click to collect it)

And with time, very rarely, worms or moles would appear to eat your crops if you were not paying attention.

But I stopped working on it... I couldn't think how the game would progress or what the graphics would look like. I might come back to it later.

Slimy eater

I've also been playing around with a 'Katamari'-style game right now, and its been quite fun.
But I went on a tangent and started learning about merging meshes just so I could make creating objects a bit faster...

And I made a working importer that merged the meshes of an object into one.

But then I remembered I could just merge the meshes into one inside blender before exporting. So there's that. But it was still a cool thing to learn.

I've added a clip of the slimy prototype in the attachments.
