It’s interesting how you quickly block in the rough animation in the beginning and then devote so much time to the layout. Being an animator in Japan really is different!

Watching the video above, I'm wondering if there is some common concept of frames pacing for types of actions (as in "this is animated on twos, this in on threes, etc"). For example, there were videos about walk cycles and lip syncing differences on the western and eastern industry. As someone who does not work in art industry, but loves understanding it, I find this type of content interesting as even if it might not highlight the "sixth-sense" a professional polishes over the years, it helps newcomers to develop the basic intuition and speaking for myself, makes me feel inspired. Are there books or media you suggest?

I made a little video of what I found out so far and what the issues are: https://youtu.be/d3K1xVPftb0 Do you maybe know a better way to copy cells? (There is also the copy paste function in the timeline, but that doesn't create new cells with the same content but just inserts frame 1 and frame 6 spot again, keeping the content. So it does not create a duplicate but instead links F1 to F6. )

2023-12-31 13:54:50 +0000 UTCThanks! It generally takes maybe 40 hours to take an action scene like that from begining to end. Note that in an anime production, that work is split into maybe around 8 people or so.

The issue I am facing right now is that I have no feeling for how much time investment is considered good/fast for a shot. How long if it is only lineart? Thanks a lot <3
