Excellent!

Garry Mothinabox

That was a lot of fun. I knew what your reaction would be when I saw what you were tasting though, especially for pickled onions and marmite. I quite like pickled onions myself, not by themselves though. They are OK with cheese and crackers or a tasty pork pie. I also quite like Turkish delight, both the real stuff and the chocolate covered bars. The others I'm not so keen on.

Shaun Garratt

I see she is still ducking Bovril. To the best of my knowledge, it is still banned in Canada.

David O

Wow! The length you'll go to for your patrons... fun video Alanna. Thank you for your sacrifices. I am on board for the chocolate though ;)

James Alberg

You def earned those chocolates!!

jillian b

Should have gone full “Jackass” and dipped your pickled onion straight into the Marmite jar!

Jamie Smith

Real Turkish delight is nothing like Fry's, been to Turkey and they have lots of different varieties, nuts, different flavours etc. Way better than the fake Fry's stuff

Tazz1669

Love me some milk bottles... Turkish delight, hate the Frys stuff, but went on a holiday to Turkey and the official stuff is delicious.

ssaunders2k

Thank you for sacrificing your taste buds for subjecting yourself to those nasty looking things. Turkish delight is now known as chocolate covered, soap flavoured snot. Yum!

Andrew8468

I think it might've been me. I suggested something similar at least. So thank you for the enjoyment of watching you suffer lol. Those chocolates do look good, very nicely designed. The mic picked up some good chocolate asmr too lol.

Brett Carruthers

Not necessarily, Holger - my daughter, when she was young, somehow convinced herself she hated parsnips - but in more recent years, she's tried them again and now she LOVES them! Our tastes CAN change.

Steven Parkes

Oops, brain must be pickled, an Half Crown is 12½p not 25.

Tony S

At least you could end with something pleasant after the ordeal. Did "the Butler" like the Butler's chocolate or more to your taste?

Tony S

I seem to remember that Turkish Delight's used to cost 6d (2.5p), even with getting an Half a Crown (25p) pocket money weekly, they were a bit dear, I preferred to pay 3d for a packet of Smiths crisps. It was about 1958/9.

Tony S

Tesco and other stores here have been out of stock of the large pickled onions for months now. One can lose a finger trying to slice the little ones to put in a cheese sarnie, they don't have the same taste as are made for cocktails, they used to be called Cocktail Onions.

Tony S

...figgy, Bakewell, bread&butter, Christmas, suet.... not just one video but a whole series!

Stuart Summers

Great video, a roller-coaster of facial expressions. 😂 I'm with you on all but the onions.. I love a pickled onion. Good job Tesco for warning you of the full horror of D&B, the first time I tried it, I went in blind and nearly heaved, I had no idea t was Liquorice... 😂

Will

I am with you on the milk bottles and the disgusting Turkish delight, both are just horrible. I remember you shoeing Marmite in one of your really early videos, what's in my kitchen cupboards i think, but haven't seen it since so it was time for a taste test to be done! I can eat Marmite straight from the jar, i love it. I haven't had D&B for years but i do like it so it might be time to have it again.

Adam Clark

Great video I laughed all the way through! When people say just a little marmite they mean a very little. Like just dot the knife on the toast in 4 or 5 places and leave a trace amount! If you spread it in any way that's too much! I remember loving milk bottles and dandelion and burdock as a kid, turkish delight was way too expensive for children to eat and pickled onions I only liked as I got older.

Mark J

Isn’t that the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result? 😊

Holger Steinwedel

Ironically the old things in the video that I wouldn't eat are the chocolates, as they have wheat in :-/

Dr Philip J Naylor

Agree with you over most of that selection being ghastly. For me, a pickled onion *is* acceptable as part of a Ploughman Lunch with a nice mature Cheddar. Thanks for the fun video as always, have a good weekend!

Stuart Summers

Mmmmm pickled onions. Especially the small sweet onions you tried. Wonderful with a ploughman’s lunch. Mind you, this may be nostalgia, as my uncle used to make them each year - and Fry’s Turkish Delight is the taste of Christmas, as that’s the only time of year I ever had it (and not since childhood). Marmite washed down with D&B in contrast - no idea how you managed! Off to the shops now to buy some pickled onions!

David Young

Alanna being brave for us again, way too much Marmite, the trick is put your spread, butter or what you use on a plate, add a small and I mean small amount to the spread, mix together and spread that on your toast. Nice

Graham Lavers

Hi, Alanna, that was really funny , the Butler will have a great time, milk bottles with pickled onions followed by Turkish Delight covered in Marmite washed down with dandelion and burdock. I must admit pickled onions are the only ones I eat, I agree with you on the rest.

Stephen Parker

I admire your courage! In fact you should award yourself a CDM (Ask your partner!). It's no wonder the Turkish delight is awful as only one country thinks it's delightful! The milk bottle? Typical British totally artificial taste, like the attempt at "Banana". Nothing like the real taste. As for pickled onions and Marmite, they are "Acquired" tastes. Either you like them or you don't. Period! As for foods you should (or shouldn't!) try are Pickled Eggs and Pickled Walnuts. My dad bought the walnuts every Christmas. He was the only one who ever even tried them! Disgusting! I did try a pickled egg once....Just once!

Stuart Hamilton

That was brave Alanna and some of your facial expressions were a joy to behold. I'm no fan of Dandelion and Burdock but I'd happily eat all of the others - you hinted that pickled onions go well with cheese and they do (but only if you like them!), milk bottles and Fry's turkish delight bars bring back childhood memories of trips to the sweet shop and I had a couple of slices of toast with butter and marmite only yesterday. I don't imagine it'll change how you feel about marmite but that was way too much to put on one slice of toast!! That took guts though😂

Malcolm Lawrence

Honestly surprised anyone has a strong opinion about milk bottles either way. They seem pointless Suggested it some time ago, but I think an explanation of things the British call pudding would be a fun video. Black, white, steak and kidney, Yorkshire, bread, rice...

Simon

That was so funny! I haven’t tried any of those things before! Your videos are always so funny, I always look forward to them, thanks for making them! Hope you have a nice weekend!

Aaron Conway

Always remember dandelion and burdock being very confusing as a kid, fizzy drink - must be good, yay!! Tastes it and - er, not so much…

John Fry

Thank you for subjecting yourself to pickled liquorice snot for our viewing pleasure. Hope you don't have any nightmares...🤢

Steve Mikre

If in doubt, stick with your first opinion! 😂😂😂 Personally love marmite, tolerate milk bottles, hate the rest, especially Turkish delight, grim! Really want rainbow twizzlers now you’ve mentioned them lol Hope your taste buds have recovered 😂
