Very cool! I bet he's got a lot of interesting stories to tell

Thanks Aaron! Every day is a little bit better

Thanks again Iain!

That's a great idea! I know loads of people who enjoy audiobooks - plus it's good background when you have to do something boring like chores! lol

Adventures and Naps

16 that's awesome!! Happy to hear you can't pick a favourite, that's a good sign!

Adventures and Naps

I used to love reading Antony Horowitz and Alex Rider as a Kid!

Adventures and Naps

Ahh Malcolm! Glad to hear it! I agree with those 3 - I think they're stand-outs for the year

Adventures and Naps

Reading at your own pace is good! The only reason I've been able to read so much lately because I haven't been leaving the house lol

If anyone wants something in the same vein as The Guest, I'd recommend Sandie Jones' The Guilt Trip. Similarly, if you liked The Silent Patient (and have already read Michaelides' next book), you're likely to enjoy anything by Alice Feeney. For other straight mysteries from 2021 that were good, check out Ashley Weaver's A Peculiar Combination (set in WW2) or Lady Glenconner's Murder on Mustique (she used to work for Princess Margaret, so it's also fascinating because she uses some of her knowledge in the story).

Reading is Fundamental...📖📚

I think I've read more books this year than I ever have. My favourite book of 2021 would probably be Dave Grohl's The Storyteller

Brett Carruthers

Completely agree about the Ben Aaronavitch series, all of which are great to read and I'd highly recommend for the book club.

I only started doing book club a few months ago, thank you for doing it, I like being a part of it! So sorry you’re feeling ill! Fingers crossed you don’t have covid! Don’t feel bad if you ever have to miss a stream or a video, so you can rest! If it’s SAD that’s making you feel ill I’m really sorry too! It’s affected me a lot the past month or so too, I know it can be rough! I hope youre doing ok! I hope you feel better soon!

Great video, and well done for completing the full year. The closest I get is audiobooks on the way to work but I don't feel quite so virtuous :) You had some great books there - and thanks for persevering with Mr Whitcher :)

Hi, Alanna, I'm the same as Gem I used to read loads when I worked in London on the journey. Since I ceased to work in London my reading has lessened a lot. Maybe I'll try audiobooks in the new year and let someone read to me. I've heard people say they're good.

Stephen Parker

Thanks for the video. Once again, A+N book club made me complete books in genres that I wouldn't usually look at and I don't think there was a single bad one in the list, I really enjoyed them all. I have done 16 books this year but I listen to the audio book versions which I think makes it easier as you can listen while doing other things rather than having to set aside time to read them. I don't think I can pick a favourite this year.

Book Club! Brilliant! I have to read in bed for at least an hour before nodding off. Plus, I've got loads of books on my Kindle and I've signed up to Audible talking books so I'm never short of material, albeit on the cloud! I read the Suspicions of Mr Whitcher before you and loved it. then the Thursday Murder Club. Also excellent. I've also read a couple of Antony Horowitz. Very similar, but fictional whereby he gets hooked into mysteries with this very unlikable detective. Very engrossing! Try 'em. He also does a lot of Young Adult books and he's also written some James Bond adventures books which I steer clear of. My fav authors are Jasper Fforde and Ben Aaronavitch with thier sort-of-fantasy books, but set in an almost real world. The Ben Aaronavitch books in the Rivers of London series are quite exceptional. A mixture of magic, vampires, and the Metropolitan Police! Jasper Fforde is a one-off. He creates this worlds that are almost real, but not quite! BTW I saw you'd watched "Nomadland" and I bought the book. It was nothing like the movie but a real eye-opener! Happy Christmas to you and the Butler and a virus-free New Year! I must visit your Edenbridge again!

Morning Alanna! I read a fair bit but do find times when I'm 'stuck' for a new book or author, and that's where the book club helps me out. I read six of your books this year and my top three would be 1) The invisible life of Addie Larue (I also found it was slow in the middle but I'll forgive that because the rest was excellent and the concept was certainly unusual) 2) The 100 Year Old Man... (a neat idea and quite heartwarming in places) 3) The Thursday Murder Club (which would have been higher but I'd already read it!). Thanks for the choices, do keep them coming next year, and happy reading!!

Malcolm Lawrence

I like reading, & when I had a commute, I used to read a lot, but I’m so slow at it lol… Book Club is such a great idea & I’d join but I know I’ll never finish a book in a month 😂 plus I’ve got 14 other books waiting to be read! Maybe I’ll have to suggest one, so I can join the club 😂
